Current Role Players

CMicks3110 : 11/13/2018 11:44 am
Interested in people's thoughts about some of the current role players on the roster and whether we should re-sign or cut any of the following players.

WR-Corey Coleman - has talent, obviously has been a headcase
WR-Cody Latimer - I thought he showed some promise in his limited snaps
OLB-Kareem Martin - I would cut, he hasn't really shown to be much more than a JAG
DL-Mario Edwards Jr. - I think he has flashed a bit
DL-Josh Mauro - I also think Mauro has proven to flash a bit, especially against the run
TE-Rhett Ellison - I am tempted to cut him, or reduce his salary, he hasn't been that impactful of a player
FB-Elijah Penny - He has been reasonably good, showed last night he was a decent pass blocker
OG-Jamon Brown - I thought he looked pretty good last night. Obviously a few hiccups, but much better than Greco
DE-Kerry Wynn - Has been a serviceable player for a few years now.. Not a star by any means, but hasn't hurt us.
LB-Alec Ogletree- Is he really worth his cap #? Not sure. But who would replace him?
CB-B.W. Webb- I think he has shown himself to be a pretty solid player, nothing special, but I would re-sign him.
S- Curtis Riley - Has some speed. I think he could be a decent reserve moving forward.
I like and would keep Ogletree, Mauro, Wynn and Edwards.

Would love a still young Jamon Brown to work out

WR-Corey Coleman - for the vet min, sure. Nice gamble to take.
WR-Cody Latimer - eh. I could take him or leave him.
OLB-Kareem Martin - Not worth 7M per year
DL-Mario Edwards Jr. - I think he's a better fit in a 4-3, but I'd re-sign him if the price was rught.
DL-Josh Mauro - re-sign. He's very stout against the run.
TE-Rhett Ellison - Cut
FB-Elijah Penny - Whatever
OG-Jamon Brown - Jury's out, but it looks promising
DE-Kerry Wynn - Definitely re-sign
LB-Alec Ogletree- He blows. Don't know what his cap looks like.
CB-B.W. Webb- Solid nickel guy, but shouldn't be starting on the outside.
S- Curtis Riley - Garbage
I'm glad that we have extra draft picks. Last season, DG did

much better with the draft than he did in free agency.

We needed an OLT desperately. Hopefully Solder works out. Omameh and Stewart were misses. Loved the Ogletree trade, Mauro I believe will be a solid depth pickup. We’ll see about Jamon Brown

WR-Corey Coleman - has talent, let's see what he does the rest of this season
WR-Cody Latimer - don't re-sign
OLB-Kareem Martin - cut
DL-Mario Edwards Jr. - bring back on a similar deal (close to vet min); compete in camp
DL-Josh Mauro - cut
TE-Rhett Ellison - tempted to cut him, since his blocking has been average, but his deal isn't that bad and they need depth. No roster bonus so I'd bring him to camp, but hope someone can beat him out
FB-Elijah Penny - I'd bring him back
OG-Jamon Brown - one game, but already looked better than anyone else that has played on the right side this year (not a high bar). If he plays well over the next 3-4 games, I'd look to lock him up before the end of the season
DE-Kerry Wynn - JAG. As cheap depth I'd keep him, but nothing special
LB-Alec Ogletree- No way am I paying him $11.75M next season with a $6M roster bonus.
CB-B.W. Webb- At the right price, I'd keep him, but that's probably <$2-3M per season. I'm more interested in Haley/Hamilton/Lippett going forward.
S- Curtis Riley - cut
I believe last night was Corey Coleman's
Beer Man : 11/13/2018 12:16 pm : link
first audition for a future role on this team. As expected, he did well in the return game (his strengths are his speed and what he can do with the ball in his hands). As far as the passing game, I don't know; I wasn't following him. He made a nice catch for a 1st down, but the knock on him is he had trouble learning the Playbook and trouble creating separation. I don't know how is doing on either.

Only had 8 snaps on offense. Hopefully in the coming weeks he starts taking some snaps from Fowler who brings nothing to the table (IMO).
Also want to see Tony Lippett

He played very well for the Dolphins up until he tore his Achilles. If he's healthy, he could be a real asset for this team.

I think you got it right
Why
Toth029 : 11/13/2018 12:58 pm : link
Let Mauro go? He fits the scheme and is cheap.

Martin needs a paycut or outright cut.
Colmen fits with our recivers
Dankbeerman : 11/13/2018 1:13 pm : link
Latimer was unspectacular but didnt see him do anything negative just limited ability. No problem with either coming back but not wroliting big checks for them. With them and Jawill in the fold we dont need to draft a WR.

On the DL, Edwards offers more potential then Mauro and Wynn has been the most impactful wouldnt mind bringing all 3 back and drafting a back up nose.

Martin is a servicable back up keep him so we can cut Vernon and Ogletree. Carter, Davis, Goodson is a good start but need to add 2 LBs in the draft, on edge guy and an inside/veristal guy.

BW deserves a shot to come back but I feel Haley has shown a lot in the slot.cant make any judgement on Lippet or Hamilton yet.

Riley isnt horrible but adds almost nothing to the deffense. Need to spend 2 picks on DBs and hope Beal can play

and Im good with keeping Penny and Brown. Draft a RT and RG and sign a vet C. Ellison is fine but we need to add a TE in the draft that can be an inline blocker
