taking your big hitting run stuffer at SS and matching him up all night on a very good receiving TE is a mistake. Or I guess we can just go for trying too hard at nicknames...
has been terrible in coverage its not just about last night
Which is probably why he’s a strong safety but when Riley is the free safety or whatever hot piece of trash they trot out there they probably don’t have much of a choice

Or this
Was it arrogance, om Bettcher's part, to think your Pro-Bowl SS Â
could hang with this TE? Hopefully, our coaching staff is getting better at recognizing our personnel strengths and weaknesses and game-planning to better utilize their skills.

Probably more like lack of options maybe
I think Betcher adjusted late game. It seemed Collins moved more into a quasi PB roll and Thomas picked up coverage responsibilities. I would hope going forward Betcher can switch that earlier. Bucs have some decent TE's.
I've thought for quite some time that the Giants Â
a safety who is a coverage liability? Personally, i'd have rather taken the third rounder (if it was really offered) and used the cap room to upgrade DL, OL or LB.
Paying big money for a safety should be for a player who plays both the pass and the run exceptionally.
If you're going to match him up with one of the league's best receiving TEs, he's going to look bad. Skimming through the game thread last night, I'm shocked at how many people were taken by surprise with Kittle. He's one of the most athletic TEs in the league, had a very good rookie year and is lighting it up this year. That wasn't some schmo that toasted him.
Collins' tackling, pursuit angles and speed to the sideline can help a defense shut down rushing attacks, but his inconsistencies in coverage will be tested by NFL offenses.
He's listed at 6' 222 at the combine and looks bigger now. Maybe he should be moved to linebacker.

he has been merely good. 2016 he was great and a serious contender of DPOY. Every since, he is good with flashes of brilliance. But, overall, not worth the large contract he will be seeking.
I am becoming more and more interested in the idea of moving him to LB or simply moving on. The problem is, we don't even have a decent FS, so the prospect of finding 2 quality S, plus depth is not a good one.
Collins has lost a bit of Luster, but judging him on Matching Up with Kittle one on one????.... I don't believe you're giving Kittle enough credit, and you're also asking for a lot without any pocket pressure.
Kittle is 6-5, 250...and He's averaging 15.5 Yards a Pop! There is not a D Back or Linebacker that can covber Him..he's Gronk...He's Kelsey... He's an absolute mismatch.

Remember when we used to have three safeties on the field at the same time? Back in, what, 2011 when we went to a Super Bowl?

You forgot the spaces, super important... Landon ( Toast ) Collins...
You just gotta log in,stand up in front of your monitor, and applaud.
