This guy...
after listening to him hype up the Atlanta Falcons and shit on our Giants the last time were on MNF, only for the Falcons to barely beat us and get smoked by the Browns a month later...
He continued to shit on us the entire game, shit on Eli, and say dumb shit...like we only made the playoffs twice, the same years we wont the superbowl (only to be immediately corrected)...
I cant stand this clown, I am not saying Eli should or should be in the HOF, but he is adamant that Eli not be in...Is he jealous bc his own career was a heeping pile? Did Eli at Ole Miss spank him and his LSU Tigers? What is his beef???
I would think there are dozens of other ex-players who are more intelligent and articulate than "Booger".
He and Sapp made a good team inside. Must have been the water as neither can keep their mouths shut and rarely does anything of value come out.
Couldn’t tell you the last time I have a shit about what the announcers say, it has no effect on the game.
The sad thing is, based on what I read about Eli on BBI daily, there's got to be a bunch of Giants fans who agreed with everything he was saying.

What made it classless or an attack, for that matter?
I didn't agree with McFarland, and don't really care for him even when the Giants aren't in play, but I don't know why people are taking his criticism so personally to the point where they characterize it as a classless attack.
These guys get paid to make noise and get people to take notice. He made noise. People here are still talking about it days later, so obviously he got the job done.
Four additional times
Phil Simms when broadcasting Broncos games...
Anyway, that was obviously the comment that got everyone riled up. He clearly meant to say that Eli hadn't won a playoff game in any other year - not that he hadn't been there at all.
He sucks. Just ignore him.
Just shows where this league and the presentation of its product/broadcast is heading.
Lowest common denominator/fantasy football/Skip Bayless shock value bullshit now during the games.
There's two kinds of analysts in that regard - one is the Jon Gruden 'hey, he's great, don't look at the 6 sacks he gave up this quarter, that's one fantastic left tackle' - where everything is sunny and wonderful.
The other is the 'when I played ball' type - and there are plenty of those. Simms as pointed out used to constantly bash players. So did Siragusa. Hell, earlier this season Aikman caused an uproar because he said that Dak Prescott was inaccurate (which was true, but didn't stop Cowboys fans from having a shitfit).
It's not disrespectful or classless. That Eli did good work off the field and won the Payton award is a wonderful thing, but it doesn't absolve him from criticism of his play on the field.
Now, that McFarland has no idea what he's watching, and makes no sense when he's babbling on - that's not classless, it's clueless.
350 TDs
Made the playoffs 6 out of 15 years
won 2 superbowls, was superbowl MVP twice
the only reason he gets any negativity is because he's Peytons little brother

Francesa was talking about this yesterday and how rare it is within the fraternity of players for one player to so openly bash another player's credentials while at the same time being factually inaccurate.

So it's OK to be factually inaccurate as long as you make noise and get a reaction? It's attitudes like that that give you morons like Carton on the radio, people who make stupid and false statements just to get a reaction, pitiful!
Couldn’t tell you the last time I have a shit about what the announcers say, it has no effect on the game.

He was acting like it was a rain delay in Spring Training and he had to fill time!
To start, I'm not sure if an in-game broadcast is the best place to debate Eli Manning's HOF credentials. But to then make it such a focal point, in such a negative way, while spewing shit that isn't true.
Typical ESPN.
That's what talk radio and TV opinion platforms are for. They should give him a spot with Colin Cowherd maybe?
He and Sapp made a good team inside. Must have been the water as neither can keep their mouths shut and rarely does anything of value come out.
Ross Tucker used to run circles around him on Sirius.

Seriously, I wish my biggest complaint after a Giants win was that a guy who people call "Booger" doesn't like my favorite QB and doesn't think he's Hall of Fame worthy.

It's attitudes like the ones here - that get all worked up and bent out of shape, discussing it for days on end - that get you more Cartons and McFarlands.
Carton at least qualifies for disrespectful, as he and his partner would take personal shots at Eli on a regular basis (you would think the Manning family stole some money from Boomer Esiason if you listened to him enough).
The best way to make people like these guys go away is to ignore them.
Other than Mike Francesa occasionally I don't really consume much sports opinion content because it's mostly trash, which is why I don't like it bleeding into the game broadcast which I can't really escape.
Right, I winced at that too. Maybe he was thinking of Paul Bunyan and mispoke ?
Granted, he butchered Eli's playoff record, but what is the big deal? It's a good conversation and worthy of fleshing out.

Yes, actually - because even if that's all you do, some other yutz will go from this thread onto social media, where 10 other knuckleheads will go out and bitch and moan, which will result in that fool getting more exposure.
ESPN doesn't care about the quality of their broadcasts - if they did, their product would be vastly different from what it is. Hell, even NFLN doesn't care - that's why about half a dozen years ago or so they went from being an actual NFL news network to being ESPN lite. What they care about is eyeballs, and maximizing exposure - and these least common denominator ways of getting it works just fine for them.
I do think they'll end up canning McFarland - but they'll replace him with some equally annoying blowhard announcer who'll do anything but cover the actual game on the field, because that's what ESPN has decided makes them the most money.
The best way to make people like these guys go away is to ignore them.
Agreed. I ignore several dozen posters.

Good conversation and worthy of fleshing out - yes, but not in that setting. On an ESPN show somewhere, absolutely. Get Steven A Smith screaming about Eli instead of whatever other nonsense he's going to spout that day.
In the middle of a live sports broadcast, not really the place and time. Had they touched on it for a minute and moved on, fine - but they went on and on in the middle of an ongoing game.
I don't think it was disrespectful, classless or anything personal - just the wrong venue for it, and obviously way off target statistically.
It's not even close.
Quote:
is irrational. The guys in the both brought it up by showing Namath's W/L record as the only QB in Canton with a losing record. And how Eli is getting dangerously close to having a losing record. McFarland then took a position that Eli essentially hasn't been consistent enough for his tastes despite the 2 SBs.

Irrational???? How could it possibly be irrational?
A. This is a GIANTS website last time I checked
B. Eli has been the Giants starting QB for the last 15 years or so
So, it's irrational to show this guy some loyalty, on what frikkin planet is that???

C. minor thing but he did win TWO SB trophies for the giants , just sayin...
What clown at ESPN thought to not only promote this bozo but put him in a roller coaster around the field? I’m actually in the minority but I really like Witten. I know he’s not polished yet but he makes some great points and obviously has tremendous credibility.

Yes, McFarland made a mistake about Eli's playoff record. That was not a good look.
Look, to me, this MNF crew finally said something interesting and got outside of their boring boundaries. If they all said Eli was a slam dunk HoFamer would we have anything to talk about?
