before week 10, the deadline for comp pick formula, the Giants will reportedly get a 4th round pick for Pugh. Had Omameh remained on the roster he would have canceled out Pugh.
Correct, he was cut early enough that he doesn't offset Pugh. Â

hope that DG can use at least some of his day three picks productively. Lauletta and McIntosh are unknowns, but Reese basically forgot there even was a third day in the draft. I know most of those players don't work out, but we can't whiff completely.

I am hoping for a C or OT that develops into a starter. I would like to see Gettleman take a chance on a falling player with off the field issues. Not serious issues but maybe just a case of a kid doing something stupid when they were young but has learned from like an Ahmad Bradshaw type.
But you can, you just need an injury settlement. If he doesn’t agree to the settlement, he gets his full salary for the year.
Cutting a guy for an injury settlement doesn't necessarily eliminate them from the comp pick calculation the way a straight cut does. (At least according to over the cap). link - ( New Window )
This is not a simple answer. If you take OTC charts as a given, Pugh loss gave us a 4th round compensation pick. This would only be true if Geno Smith would still count in the formula as a free agent lost. His salary is very borderline to counting. So, given the Geno gave us a 4th round pick, Omameh gives us a 5th round compensation pick. However, one can look at the cutting of Omameh guarantees the Giants a 4th round compensation pick for Pugh. If we are lucky, then we get a 4th and a 5th round compensation picks.
I never really got an answer on another thread. If they had cut Latimer and Michael Thomas, would they have gotten additional comp picks? I had read they could get a 4th and maybe more. But that was before the Omameh cut.

Omameh cut worked out to be better IMO.
They would have likely had a 4th round pick regardless of cutting Omameh, Thomas or Latimer.
Cutting Omameh according to OTC projects the Giants to pick up a 5th in addition to the 4th.
Cutting Latimer and/or Thomas was unlikely to yield that high a pick IMO. Links to OCT and their comp pick calcs is above.

My belief, based upon looking at the OTC chart above, is that if you would have cut one or two players on the right side of the chart, you would have only received a 7th round compensation pick from the left side of the chart. That isn't much of a compensation.

That center who plays for Buffalo looks like a decent late round project. I think he grades out really well in pass pro

I hope that's accurate.
Because you can't just cut someone on IR.
Pugh would have netted a 4th.
Now the Giants, according to OTC stand to get a 4th and a 5th because cutting Omameh leaves no FA signing to cancel Kennard.
None of this is exact since I don't think the exact formula has ever been published but I think OTC does as good a job with this as anyone.

5th.
I think a trade would have had $$ benefits for the Giants.
I hope that wasn’t too confusing.
