NFT: Stones rumored to be playing Metlife in 2019

DanMetroMan : 11/15/2018 2:37 pm
The Rolling Stones have been teasing a 2019 US tour for a while now, and it looks like we’re nearing the official announcement. It also looks like it will include a NYC-area show, possibly at MetLife Stadium.

no one in the band breaks a hip or gets sidetracked by a Matlock episode marathon between now and then.
OMG

I like the music more than most anybody, but this is getting ridiculous. Mick is 75 and a great-grandfather, and I hear Keith really hasn't played well since falling out of a tree years ago.
I remember them

being derided for their age 30 years ago on the Steel Wheels tour, lol. Whatever, as long as they space out the dates a bit they can handle it. McCartney did a bunch of area shows last year and he was great.
Tickets will be

a low, low bargain price of $345 apiece.
Was on stage

with Rolling Stones during Steel Wheels concert at Shea Stadium. I was next to Charlie Watts at the top of some stairs doing security. Band manager says no one without gold pass gets up stairs, so I stopped some sketchy looking female with no pass. Band manager comes over and grabs her taking her on stage, turns out to be Jerry Hall, wooops. Manager comes over laughing says good job mate she had no pass lol,on same night after concert at outside tent saw a very attractive blonde who turned out to be Seka who couldn't have been nicer and that night better looking then Jerry Hall.
I love the stones

Love their gritty sound from the 70s

Have no interest in seeing them live today.

That's rediculous.

They still put on a fantastic show and have that aura about them. You can feel the electricity in the air at their shows and the anticipation of going to see the Stones is still there for most everyone I've ever seen at a Stones show.
Saw them in September 1981

in Rich Stadium, Buffalo. Great show and felt like I checked that off the bucket list. Don't have much desire to see them now that they're pushing 80, but still love their music.
They are still a great show.

Still tons of energy, still well produced, still fun, even if the musicianship isn’t what it once was. And they have plenty of supporting cast musicians and singers that keep the sound great. And the stage sets are top flight. Still worth your time and money.
I saw them a few years ago (2012 I think)

in Barclays. They were actually quite good. Mick is funny, is still an alright singer and has a ton of energy.

But I think 6 years and a $400 price tag is too steep for me. It was a once in a lifetime experience but that ship has probably sailed.

I've seen just about all of the "legends" of the 60s/70s at some point in time minus Paul McCartney. That's another guy flirting with another tour last I heard, and I also think that ship has sailed.
Saw them in '06

Great show but no desire to see them again. Not because of their age but because I'm not a huge fan. Will spend my concert $$ elsewhere.

Fwiw, I saw McCartney 3 years ago when he was 73 and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to.

I get the excitement but, what are you listening to? Songs that are 40 - 50 years old.
When was the last time the relevant? The 70's?
When was the last time 1 of their albums went gold?

They have become a great cover band of Stone's music.

There is relevance to the idea that their live shows are a shadow of former selves.

When they were more able to claim the Greatest Rock and Roll Band moniker they were doing so based on some nights in which, to borrow a phrase; they could touch the sky. The 1969 and 1972 tours were on some nights ( especially in 72 when drugs made the time they started several hours after stated start times) unbelievable and imho, the best live shows I ever heard. Loud, unbelievably tight, little patter, stripped down to the essentials ( although Bobby Keys was a great addition for the 1972 tour). The Stones's music seems simple but now one can replicate it from back then (including them). In a weird way the band was wild but the sound was very disciplined (they had a reputation for practicing non stop back then)

From the hard to replicate Richards inverted tuning to the drums a half beat behind his rhythm and the bass ahead of both plus that era version of Mick Taylor, no one ever did the menace, brutal, doomed, lust, animal or raw strands of blues based rock better than the Rolling Stones.

Back then Jagger howled, yelped, gutted and sang like Howling Wolf and other actual American blues masters. To me, after those tours he is more schtick and mimicry

Look up Bitch or Gimme Shelter on Youtube from the 1972 Philadelphia shows or find the Baltimore 1969 concert ( bad sound recording but powerful nevertheless). Or try Tumbling Dice from Dallas 72.

By the 1978 they lost all that and their top moments were hard to find and the shows that went sideways were more frequent.

The Stones were a dependable return on your ticket show night in and night out in 69 and slipped in dependability but topped in possibility in 72. After that they got to be a mess in 1978 and then started to be dependably expensive and bland but professional from 81 onwards. Oddly, the crowds were violent and rowdy in 1969 and 1972 and downright polite by 1981. I saw them in Baltimore and NYC in 1969 (escorted by two older uncles) and Philadelphia and NYC in 1972.

Like many great bands they had a 5-6 year period when the adrenaline,(and the extent they got along) amongst other substances, burned bright. ( If you look at the peak albums of many of the best bands they got a ton done in a very short time) Somehow they got out Exile but could not really tour well behind its brilliance.

I cant tell this but I think they loved what they did back then and were infatuated in love with it. Now I think they love their history.

I would not spend on their concerts these days. Id listen to their music anytime.

But its music. Its all personal opinion and feelings

They are music period. Surfing the internet for some reason Wild Horses song was playing, Never heard it before as I am not music fan....but I went home and listened quite a few times over the weekend. The Stones stay as long as they want.
