So the Port Athority is closed cause of over crowding and the GWB is closed because of accidents. Good luck getting home tonight if you live in the tristate area
it’s like they forgot to put salt down. Took me 20/25 minutes to pick my daughter up at daycare that’s 2.5 miles away. Cars slipping everywhere, jam packed roads.
In my car in a parking lot in Middletown NY. Snowing like crazy. Cannot move my car. No taxi service picks up to take me to a hotel so conserving gas and spending the night in the car. Sucks.
Was stuck on Post Road heading from White Plains to Scarsdale Â
A ride that normally takes 10 minutes. Had an awful turtle head to deal with. I determined I wasn’t going to make it. I had the passenger take over “driving”. Slipped down a side street and dropped anchor on somebody’s snow covered mums in their backyard. Luckily for me, they were probably stuck in traffic somewhere else and not home. Anyway I wiped my ass with some of their junk mail I took from their mailbox and went back to my car. It was only maybe 40 yards ahead of where I jumped out!
that leads to another road that leads to Main St., then to Route 24. Cars backed up on my road since 4PM. 7:30PM now and cars are moving at a snails pace. I did a pass of my sidewalk with my snowblower at the slowest speed and passed 5 cars.
At 6 p.m., Marlyne Page, an executive assistant who works in Midtown, had already been in line for an hour but was still a block away from the entrance to the bus terminal and the bus to Passaic. “And this isn’t even a real storm,” she said. “Someone didn’t plan.”
She was wet, cold and quietly furious, but exuding calm. “I’m not going to explode, because what would be the point?“ she said. “Unless someone cuts in front of me.” Link - ( New Window )

I was there around 3pm. They were already closing side roads due to cars spinning out.
Taking it slow and safe, but the morons driving up hill at 10 mph should beaten over the head with hammer. I saw a line of cars get stuck because the dick hole leading the line putt putted up hill, not allowing anyone to build momentum.
I was lucky enough to get home in an hour (usually a 15 minute ride), but folks heading to the northwest part of the state are barely moving. One of my coworkers checked into a hotel for a night, others have been on the road for 4+ hours.
I feel bad for all those enduring the hazardous driving conditions. Â
If it is any consolation, we'll be feeling the effect of the same weather system. The forecast is calling for a low of 40 overnight. I may have to turn on my heat.
never seen anything like today as far as commute in my area. Not even when it snowed 33 inches in 24 hours march of 2017. I have no idea why my area wasnt prepared at all for this snow, they knew it was coming for a week.
My 13 minute commute took me 3 hours. I left work at 315. On a bad day i'd be home by 335. I was 2 miles from my house at 4 oclock and it took me 2 full hours to go 2 miles. I no doubt could have walked home quicker. Not one fucking plow anywhere.

It's crazy. I was at meetings in midtown until about 7:30. People at the meetings who live in NJ were hearing in disbelief that they likely weren't getting home tonight.
Should I even bother trying to go to Port Authority tonight?

and today was the worst driving conditions I have ever experienced. Here in Hershey, PA, the roads were- and still are- a disaster. I can't blame the road crews- they pretreated with salt and the plows were out in force but the roads were more slippery than anything I've ever felt.
My 4 mile commute took me two hours today (it's normally 5 minutes).
drivers for not being able to handle small amounts of snow can die. It’s not and never has been about the drivers.
It’s about the condition of the road and the response of the localities to the snow. Bad response to the snow? Even a small amount of snow crushed nyc.
walked into my house basically 4 hours later. Should've taken up the boss offer to stay at a hotel in the city. Never seen such a colossal fuckup - there are still buses stuck on the turnpike.

You can forget about taking the buses.
Well, I didn't listen. I left work just before 11, got to Port Authority, and got on a bus in about 10 minutes.
Just waiting it out at the office really paid off.
And I honestly consider myself lucky. My boss called me and apologized which was awesome of him to do. Also working from home tomorrow...a little empathy and recognition goes a long way with me.
Left office today at 2:15. Took path to Harrison then drove to Chatham. Arrive home at 11:15. Screw all who did not have the skill or vehicle to handle driving in that weather. Also not sure if it’s a state road but it was not plowed or salted at all. Probably still isn’t. Somebody should get fired.
Freaking nightmare.
Like that, my brother in law was stuck on the gwb for 2.5 hours and then they closed the palisades parkway, didn’t make it hone to 1045 when he left upper Manhattan at 345

GiantJohn - I am at 7WTC and live in Staten Island. My bus stop is on Church Street. You know the nightmare when it isn't raining. Church street was a mess.
I am pretty sure that the forecast was increased to 3-6 in the early morning yesterday. Regardless, there was more than an outside chance of 5 plus inches of snow. The city and states should have been ready regardless of the earlier forecasts.
Once again, the powers that be gambled and bet wrong in an attempt to keep the costs of managing these storms down. Even at 3", there should have been more preemptive measures taken that would have significantly reduced the impact to travelers.
Not a surprise here in the city, it's a running theme with our current mayor, who if you changed his name to 'McCheese' would make a suitable McDonalds character, but that's about it.

I still have no idea how that clown got re-elected. I have yet to find someone who actually likes DeBlasio, pretty much universally hated. Maybe my experience is way off and i havent lived in the city for 6 years now but still have quite a few friends who live there and not one of them has a good thing to say about him, even democrats
Here in CT the Merrit and 84 both got shut down at different points. It was a real mess. I had everyone that works for me go home at lunch and finish their days there.
Got home at midnight, walking the last five miles Â
I wouldn't blame the drivers. I'd like to know whose idea it was to close route 280 without the local roads being plowed. People got stuck going up icy hills, then those roads were unusable too. Then nobody moved. My bus driver gave up in east orange, two towns away from where I live now.
Like that, my brother in law was stuck on the gwb for 2.5 hours and then they closed the palisades parkway, didn’t make it hone to 1045 when he left upper Manhattan at 345
I ended up getting stuck for an extra 2 hours in nanuet because I was scared of taking the palisades parkway. I had already traveled about 40 miles through a disasterous 287 north which took me two hours when I got to exit 14 on the thruway. It was around 5 pm— I had come to far and was kind of feeling like I was dodging a huge bullet. Waze said the PIP was slower than shit rolling uphill so I decided to get off exit 14 and travel the side roads of nanuet NY. Disaster. I was 6 miles from home and it took me an another 3 hours.
The longer you were out in this storm the more you were at risk of disaster.
Ps the reason why the was so bad for everyone is because of the timing of the storm and the fact that not a single road was salted or plowed. Make no mistake this was an infrastructure problem more than anything else.
The fact that not a single road was salted or plowed Â
wasn't an infrastructure problem, it was a planning problem. They went in assuming that the storm wouldn't be too bad, and by the time they got word from the NWS that it was going to be worse than originally anticipated, it was too late to engage the plows.

Not too far — Norwood NJ. I said 6 miles from home but maybe that’s not accurate more like 10.
Best wishes to those trying to get home.

The ferry?
Thank you.
I hope my boss is happy. He hates telecommuting even today. Couldn’t work from home right? Asshole.
Wreckage has now been cleared; still major backup, of course.
Video is labeled sensitive due to mild profanity from the video taker.

Took me over 3 hours to get from Purchase to new Rochelle
Walked to the ferry which was cross honoring. Got on a 6pm boat to Port Imperial so I could at least get out of NYC.
There were no cabs at the cab stand so I eventually was able to get in an Uber around 7. About 200 bucks and 3 hours later I was home around 10.
