Link is to a reddit page that contains the three-part breakdown Peyton did on Eli for a new segment he apparently does for ESPN called "Detail". Thought it was extremely informative, and also shows how Peyton would have no problem being a commentator.
Peyton breaks down Eli on Detail - (
New Window )
That reminds me that near the end of the game, the camera showed Peyton smiling just after Eli completed the winning touchdown to Burress. Troy Aikman said something to the effect that Peyton might be even happier now than when he won the Super Bowl the year before.
On a different note, I did think the game script for this game was much better. Better blocking and running the ball lead to a noticeably better game from Eli.
Hard to imagine us actually blowing out the 49ers in that game if we made those plays.
I know everyone kills Shurmur, but stuff like this gives me hope for him.
He specifically addressed plays that Elis been getting killed for. I like Baldys breakdowns, but I dont understand how he doesnt understand that run audible where Odell looked open. It was also nice to see Peyton talk about Eli muscling the throw to Coleman, addressing the chatter about his arm strength too.
Thank you, Peyton. I hope he does more of this. Hell, I hope he does MNF one day.
And Jerry Rice? You and your opinions can shove it.
Its simple but complex.
Strategy is everywhere, but beat your man.
Games are won in practice and film rooms.
Ultimate team sport.

Whether it is the assistants, OC, or Shurmur himself, the credit is deserved to acknowledge the tendency of the defenders and scheme accordingly during the game.

This post sums up a lot.
It they agree with you, their opinion is right.
If they dont they can shove it and its bullshit.
I wonder if he was asked about Monday Night Football. Cant fathom that Booger and Witten were their best option.
I could watch a ton of these....

I believe there is one every week, you need ESPN Insider but can find most here:

EPSN+. I usually steer away from paying for content, but it's a pretty nice feature by EPSN.
If you like college basketball, for example, there is a good 8 show special on Duke basketball.
Yeah I mean they both can be right. Even Peyton says it was an audible and you win some you lose some. Eli saw the defense, thought that LB was trying to bait him, saw the matchup in zone and audibled to run. Was it wrong? Probably not if they block it properly Barkley scores.
If he doesn't audible he could've thrown it to Odell or it could've been picked killing the drive. Those are decisions you have to live with.

That was really good. Think Peyton was getting sick of all the absolute bull sh!t out there being said about his brother? You bet. He just basically destroyed every analyst from beat reporters to Boogers.

anyone who puts in time and effort to do analysis like Baldy... however, it just means so much more when it comes to an accomplished pro (bro?) who has played the position at the highest level. Carries a little more weight.

There was miscommunication with Brown and Pulley on that play. Brown was supposed to pull and block the guy who ultimately met Barkley in the hole untouched.
Yup - the point about crowd noise making the home team defense miss audibles sometimes, with a flashback to a time Simeon Rice missed an audible against Peytons Colts in 2003 was interesting and very well shown.
Eli does not miss many reads.

While Brown received a negative grade by Sy in the game review, I'm willing to give him a pass as there are a number of factors that can explain some of his misses.
As you mentioned, he just doesn't know the playbook well enough. How could he after a week of practice? Because of the CBA and the rules limiting the team having contact with players during the bye (except when getting treatment), he literally flew from LA to NY after being claimed. Realized that we were on the bye so he was only able to get a playbook, but couldn't stay at the facility so he flew back to LA only to return on Sunday night back to NY to show up at practice on Monday. That is a lot of back and forth. Also, this was his first full game since last year. He was suspended to start the year and was essentially passed over by a player that was doing well.
I'll be looking at him hoping he continues to improve and eliminates a need going into next season (assuming he is amenable to signing here).
