Last week was an eye opener for me with the way that game was handled. Good point also about keeping an eye on how the team responds on the field after the questionable way coach chose to handle last week.
I see the Giants/Eli turning the ball over against this defense. Was thinking it before I read Chicago's defensive rankings, now i think its certain we do.
I wasn't enamored with Shurmur either, then he won me over, now he's lost me.
That said - who should they have hired? Certainly McAdoo had to be fired. I was hoping for Bill B. or Saban but beyond that, I'm looking at the other HC's who got hired last year and don't want any of them. Not a Matt Patricia or McDaniels fan. Wilks....yawn. Nagy and Reich have the best early results but....yawn. Shurmur is frustrating as hell but there are signs that the offense is starting to click.

It was a bad year to need a Head Coach.
It's a good question, and college coaches always come with their own set of challenges and risks. But John Mara played it "safe" with Shurmur. Uninspiring is another word.
My sense is we've entered a new age of football (it's not a brand I particularly care for as I am more old school). I'm not sure many teams, including the Giants, are looking at the right guys.
This team has the feel of one that is so desperate to win, desperate to send Eli off on a high note, they aren't being honest with themselves about where they are. It seemed they were starting to wake up when they elected to move Snacks and Eli Apple for picks. But the fact that they failed to follow those moves up with anything else leaving Jenkins, OV, and Collins all on the roster is head scratching. And talks of Tammy coming in off the bench is down right McAdoo-esque.
Also, I'll take a ton of flak for saying this, but it would not surprise me that if 10 years from now, Belichick has a new book out where says he wanted to come back to the Giants but they weren't interested. (Similar to Parcells).
I would be a chickenshit not to watch it with her. I am expecting awful Eli to show up because of pressure. I agree with everything you wrote in that preview. I see it the same way.
Eric made an excellent point about this being the point Â
where you can see Shurmur starting to lose the team. They had some momentum going and at least a long shot at making some kind of push in a weak division only to see that all erased in the second half. This is when players typically start to focus on their own futures. If Chicago has any early success in this game, this is one you can see getting ugly in a hurry.
and the Bears will probably win it with a FG in the 4th. I'm sure Eli will be Check-down Charlie in this game just to save his skin and give the Giants a chance at something. Could get ugly with that Bears front against this Oline! Maybe they should consider passing to set up the run in this game. Keep the Bears Defense off balance.
There are a lot of folks you can pin the blame on for how bad this team has become. But none of those factors are the root cause of the problem. This is...

The stands will be empty. And the empty gray seats will likely reflect the mood of the day. All of this would be somewhat acceptable if there was a sense that there was a viable rebuilding plan under proper leadership. But I still question whether John Mara has the right people in place. The Giants appear to be living in the past.
The ownership is the problem, and that is absolutely not changing. John Mara needs to step aside and bring in someone to run the football side of things, but we all know there is no chance of that. They will just keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again.
I looked to giants football..good or bad. Was confident that with the bad, i always trusted a fix that quickly lead to better times
Now, lately, and what has taken place these last few years, I have no good feeling about the future with the ones now in charge with these Giants
It really has soured me in football and the Giants. Thought that would never have happened in my lifetime. I guess the consistant beat down of inconsistant, poorly managed, play, etc that has been the "new giants"
they are going to keep him around and get players for his system under this rebuild.
in 3 years the organization will finally realize how much he sucks and rebuild. gettleman will also be too old at that point and they will be looking for another GM and HC to start the rebuild process all over again
ny browns
i'm sure too they will also hire ernie to head the next GM search and he will choose kevin abrams and chris mara
Each week I must decide whether I want to read the game preview or drink a bottle of wine and spend 30 minutes in my hot tub. The wine hangover is brutal but not as bad as reading the game preview. A truly dark time for us Giant fans.
I'm sure you meant five second-half touches. He was on the field for more than five plays. Only correcting you because years later we look back at these previews and I think accuracy becomes much more important.
Do you think the Officials not calling holding calls on Shepard, Barkley & O J B had an effect in the Philly game?? The tripping call on the last play ?? I have seen so many games being decided by the Zebras that I watch fewer & fewer games.
If they put Tanney in there, I'm going to lose it.
Great review Eric as dismal as it was but I couldn't agree more and with the Bears coming to town there Defense is for real with one of my Favorite Players in the Draft Roquan Smith the addition of Trethean and Mack .
Barkley will have very little success and Eli will be under constant pressure . With Tribuski on the bench the Bears
Defense is going to put the team on there back and likely
Eli as well ..
The Shumur take is exactly the way I feel and if it's a one
and done so be it this team has a lot of work that needs
to be done .
And it will be only to drive us more insane as a fan base. All I will think of is Eli not throwing the pick six at the end of Jax game. Carolina kicker not making the 63 yard field goal, last week and the Atlanta game. And the fact the rest of the division is in shambles and we couldn’t take advantage of it.

The no call on OBJ the penalties on Barkleys runs just kept
taking the momentum out of our sails Shurmur worst game
to date and I don't expect it to get better
I also agree it starts with Ownership these guys are business men not Football men .
I like Gettleman or at least respect him but I think the game has passed him by the game has changed to a degree.
Next season is gonna be another huge question mark .

I don't mean to be depressing, but it is what it is.
I'm expecting a dreary game. I think most people are.
The truth hurts.

I agree, at least it'll be over by 2 my time
The offense gets a new Center and Right Tackle.
The defense will get players with some speed and cover skills.
Will PS experience with playing Bears twice a year while with the Vikings help? Nope!
And I'm only going to watch it if they win but will likely be freeing up space on my DVR not much after the game is over.

Jints D simply cannot cover any rb's in pass coverage
Cohen represents a particular problem for the Jints D
It is not going to be pretty
That's a recipe for winning, just like last week.
whoops...never mind.
