So...Cohen scored on that pass he was ruled down, right?

BH28 : 12/2/2018 9:27 pm
Sure looked like he wasn't touched. Huge play as the Bears ended up only getting 3 points on that drive.

If I was a Bears fan, I'd be furious; but its good to see a call like that NOT screw the Giants for once. Another awfully officiated game.
and if the whistle hadn't blown
The Turk : 12/2/2018 9:31 pm : link
the two guys who were wrapping him up
I thought he had blown through those two guys
BH28 : 12/2/2018 9:33 pm : link
before the whistle. I think it was Riley who got trucked by Cohen after he got back up.
how do you figure?
BillKo : 12/2/2018 9:34 pm : link
Collins and he collided during the catch..and that provided the impetus for Cohen being down.

So it's down by contact. Whether Collins meant to or not.

I'm pretty sure he was contacted on the way down

I didn’t think he was touched on the way down
BillT : 12/2/2018 9:39 pm : link
I’d have to watch it again to be sure but I thought at the time it was a blown call.
I looked back at the game
Archer : 12/2/2018 9:39 pm : link
I looked back at the game and the Giants were fortunate

Cohen was not touched when he went down
He was not touched until he started running

The dbs were not in a position to stop Cohen

Good thing that the whistle was blown
when you guys say touched...
BillKo : 12/2/2018 9:45 pm : link
...you do realize Collins doesn't have to touch him with his hand, right?

Collin and he collided somewhat when Cohen made the adjustment to make the catch - and bumped into Collins while making the catch.

So it's down by contact.

Collins didn't touch him, or tackle him really...but the collision forced Cohen down.
I think some people are saying
jpkmets : 12/2/2018 9:48 pm : link
that the contact with Collins preceded Cohen catching the ball. Therefore, he was not ever touched after he gained possession of the ball.

I honestly am not sure of the rule in that case, and would be interested to know.
Collins
Archer : 12/2/2018 9:51 pm : link
If Collins contact occurred prior to control of the ball then it is not considered as contact

Collins also did not contribute to Cohen going to the ground and he did not touch him with any part of his body

I am watching this right now and I cannot see any contact

I thought he scored
Paulie Walnuts : 12/2/2018 9:52 pm : link
the refs must have blown it dead

They did, and it was not reviewable as a result. But I think the call was wrong -- collins hit cohen before the ball got there and then Cohen was never touched after gaining possession of the ball.

By that description, then it's pass interference........
Just rewatched it
BillT : 12/2/2018 10:05 pm : link
I think Collins did just barely touch him on the way down. At least it looks like that. You can barely tell even in slo mo. Completely inadvertently and had no effect on Cohen falling but I think it counts as downing him. Completely lucky.
I think we got away with one, for once...
SHO'NUFF : 12/2/2018 10:08 pm : link
but it was hilarious to see Riley completely whiff again and hit Jenkins instead of Cohen.

Riley should be nowhere near a NFL field.
Ok. Just rewatched it again
BillT : 12/2/2018 10:10 pm : link
And Collins touched him but Cohen didn’t have possession yet. So I think that’s a blown call

It is either PI or down by contact. It isn't a TD.
Obvious down by contact
Vanzetti : 12/2/2018 10:28 pm : link
That’s why Giants defenders made no effort to tackle him
no effort?
SHO'NUFF : 12/2/2018 10:37 pm : link
Did you see Riley fly in there?

Robbie, if it's PI, then shouldn't it have been a TD?

PI means the contact was before the catch. If the ball was caught despite the PI, and there was no contact after the catch, and he therefore was not downed, why wouldn't that be a TD (ignoring for the moment the whistle blowing the play dead)?
(but for the whistle that blew the play dead) since the contact was before the catch, not after.
Imo, Cohen going to the ground and Collins contacting him
robbieballs2003 : 12/2/2018 10:47 pm : link
Are simultaneous hence why it isn't a TD to me.
We should be talking about how bad
SHO'NUFF : 12/2/2018 10:50 pm : link
Collins sucks in coverage and has no idea how to track balls in the air. It should've been an easy pick.
With the number of bad plays and stupid penalties on the D
ZogZerg : 12/3/2018 6:43 am : link
It is shocking that the Giants won the game.
They also had a few turnovers sacks and
Jimmy Googs : 12/3/2018 6:50 am : link
scored a TD. That is about as good an effort this Defense can play. Would have been nice if they had buttoned up with 2 min to go but they are flawed in many spots so you will see the bad a lot too.
Cohen wasn't touched after he caught it.
jsuds : 12/3/2018 7:01 am : link
I rewatched it several times. It should have been a TD.
Agree
arniefez : 12/3/2018 7:06 am : link
blown call should have been a TD.
Judge yourselves

It should have been a score
Beer Man : 12/3/2018 8:52 am : link
but the ref blew it (by not making the call and by blowing the whistle)
Just another typical screw up by the refs

My take away is that I like
idiotsavant : 12/3/2018 9:46 am : link
The betcher thing slot, we don't really have safeties nor lbs, I guess they couldn't move Collins to lb due to having no safeties. Possibly our best two safeties suddenly play for other teams.

All that having been said, they've done fairly darn good with what they have, and the draft path is clear.

Crap ass load of high value lbs, of different types, high value safeties of different types, another dt for shits and kicks, a center and a giant tight end, maybe a corner, and Bob's your uncle.
I mean, Carter has the speed
idiotsavant : 12/3/2018 9:51 am : link
If not the experience or nfl training in pass D to use it always.

Ogletree has the savvy, but not the speed. Honestly, playing Collins at lb, you still might need to draft that pass D lb, and you also want to address the DE/LB pass rush + run D piece.

I could easily see round 1 on a LB and round #2 on a free safety. Or visa versa.
savant, I agree with your assessments
ColHowPepper : 12/3/2018 3:56 pm : link
of Ss and LBs, we're very short on talent at both positions, but I think we have to C and or edge rusher at 1 and 2.
He scored.

Gawd that guy is good.
Speaking about Cohen
5BowlsSoon : 12/3/2018 5:43 pm : link
Why was he able to carve us up with all of those passing yards?
