This isn't at all meant to be a knock Eli thread. Love the guy and the 2 SB's he got us, but for the sake of this thread lets just say the Giants move on from Eli after this year.
What does it take to get Teddy Bridgewater? What's his contract situation and what will a team have to give up to get him? I can't imagine he wants to stay as a back up QB during his prime years.
Just curious as to what the general consensus is on Bridgewater. Personally, I'd be into him for a year or two while we hopefully find the next guy in the draft over the next few years.
Is it a realistic option for the Giants?
Huh? Teddy Bridgewater was never a mobile QB. He was and is a Pocket Passer thru and thru.
Hes not really all that mobile? Hes a decent passer and is average all around, I wouldnt waste the time going after him
You can get the top OC on the market for that. A solid OL + Barkley + Beckham would do more to help a young QB than a vet like Bridgewater.

He's mobile in the sense Andrew Luck or Alex Smith are mobile. But he's certainly not Cam Newton or Mitch Trubisky.
Bridgewater - I like the kid but don't love his arm strength
Winston - big no thanks
Brissett - attractive trade target
Sloter - I don't know enough about him but Shurmur does
Keenum - another PS connection
Carr - will require either Eli retirement or Carr release by Oakland

Well, yeah, in that sense. I mean he's more mobile than Eli and other statues, but Bridgewater is a PP.

Add Nick Foles too. He's on the books for the Eagles next season but they're not paying him $20M to be a backup. Also a connection to Shurmur.
We've already have and have had too many of them.
I wouln't push all my chips to the center of the table and depend on him to be my starting QB.
In any case, it will probably take at least a $5M show me deal for some team to sign him.
Obviously we need to draft the next franchise QB at some point, but I don't know if he exists in this next draft. And worse than having a journeyman vet for a few years is forcing it in the draft and getting stuck with a Ryan Tannehill type QB for the next 10 years.
I don't watch college football so don't claim to know a thing about prospects, but I am really worried about forcing it in the draft and getting stuck with a mehh QB. I'd be fine waiting a year or two with a vet and going all in on a guy this team loves and wants to be here for the next 10+ years.
I'm interested in how he'll fare after a year working with Brees. Wouldn't exactly call Sam Bradford much of a mentor.
This is not a real question, is it? Prior to this season, Tanney had spent 8 weeks on an NFL roster spread across 6 seasons.
Giants are facing a difficult 2019 season, they will have to go headfirst into it.

Yup. And financially, if you're going to be rebuilding, 750K next year is a lot better than 5M for a Chase Daniels type.

With a weak arm.
he’s coming back. 2-14 would have shaken Giants to change more and harder.
can see wins against wash tenn and dallas in particular with dallas being clinched up by then.
This team would love to keep Eli starting another couple of seasons.
Because the future is not predicated upon the past?
How could anyone have considered ditching Kerry Collins for a QB that had done nothing in the NFL? How could anyone have considered ditching Drew Bledsoe for a QB that had done nothing in the NFL?
Eli costs a lot of money against the cap. If you're going to really embrace the full rebuild, the cap space that he occupies might be worth more than the incremental value he gives the team vs. the (cheaper) alternative options at QB, including Lauletta.
Sentimentality is one of the primary ingredients in a recipe for mediocrity.
Never won a starting job. Not an upgrade over Tanney. Done Nothing.
The guy started 28 games. His team won 17 of them. 11-5 his second year. Completed 65% of his passes for 3.2K yards.
Not Mahomes or Watson like numbers in first two years but it ain't nothing. Lost his job only due to injury. We're not talking about a failed QB here. I can understand why some people would want him.
14 tds people. That’s his career high. He’s ok. Nothing more. Why? What’s the allure? His shattered leg? Or is it his name? What’s this guy ever done on a football field that invokes confidence in some of you?
Weird facination with this guy. I’ve been told right here that keenum fucking sucks yet bridgewater is the guy this franchise should build around. That’s hilarious.
I don't think he was cleared to play before the start of the 2017 season, and let's face it, even if he did win the starting job with the Jets, they traded him for picks because they were going with Darnold.
For example Teddy had 28 tds, 11 fumbles, and 22 interceptions in two years at Minnesota. He had 5 more turnovers than tds, not good.
While he had an 86.2 rating, he was sacked 83 times and only averaged 7 yards per pass.
His stats are not an improvement over Eli.
What scares me about Bridgewater is that he takes a lot of sacks, and he turns the ball over.
and the Giants do get someone who may continue to develop. he’s still young. Eli will only regress more. teddy did make a pro bowl and could continue to improve at his young age.
there are worse options.
Giants fans not open to Teddy are often comparing him to Eli of old (notbapplicable), believe Eli is still the same guy (not true), or believe he is going to be similarly priced (can’t see how teddy gets paid more than 8-10 million a year)......or don’t believe teddy can progress(odd as Eli was not particularly great his first few seasons nor the vast majority of qbs).....
Teddy also makes going to the future franchise qb less of a media blitz if Eli is released ........

It's in the past until he does it again, post-knee.
If Eli is released this off-season(doubtful), I'd rather go with Lauletta, draft another QB, or get Sloter from the Vikings.
Bridgewater? LOL.

IIRC, Collins freaked when Eli was drafted and wanted out, pronto. Giants had no choice but to sign Warner.

He has become the Jonas Seawright of potential FA QB's.

I get that some people like Bridgewater, but I don't get the Sloter talk. I admit I don't know much about him, except for the undrafted player who didn't make the Denver roster, and was picked up by Minnesota.
About a month later the Giants signed Warner.
Makes sense
Bridgewater may produce equal or near equal effectiveness to Eli, has a proven track record of doing so for at least 20+ games, has started and won games and could be had at a very good contract (key here being could).......
Really not so sure why some of you are so mocking of this. He does not need to be better that Eli. He needs to be providing the team the ability to become more competitive and better overall by investing dollars elsewhere. Also, in shielding the ultimate replacement in being ensnared in a potential drama filled Eli transition. And you may be surprised he performs similarly if not better than current day Eli.
If you prefer not to go in this direction because you feel they should draft a young player and tear off the bandaid, understood. If Bridgewater ends up being a 15 million dollar replacement or more than probably not worth it at all and they should stick with Manning.
Mocking this direction because it suggests Briedgewater is definitively a better qb than Manning misses the point entirely.

Bridgewater has never performed equal to or better than Eli even by this years standards.
His first season in 13 games he had only 14 td passes and 12 interceptions
His 2nd season he started all 16 games but once again only threw 14 td passes. He suffered a devastating knee injury as well which there are still concerns about. If he was willing to sign an inexpensive 1 year deal to compete with Lauletta as the stop gap then I would be in favor of it. I wouldn't expect him to win many games and he is definitely not the long term answer at QB for the Giants.
Im not suggesting that his career is comparable. Im not suggesting he isnt risky.
I am suggesting if he is inexpensive he is far younger and may develop an upside. Eli is old, bridgewater is not. He can potentially keep a team in contention while a real savior comes to light.

What you're suggesting is "QB hell." If the Giants defense improves and Bridgewater is a game manager who basically just feeds Barkley the Giants might win 7-8 games. They will then be way out of range for a QB.
good enough with this team to keep winning 6-8 games and doing the same? The big downfield throws are not there for the most part anymore.
The odds are they will keep Eli vs changing to a veteran. Lower odds Lauletta or a draft pick are next. But there is some logic in Bridgewater. Its not totally asinine.
