CB Janoris Jenkins -- December 3, 2018

Q: You want them to throw the ball at you so you can make that play at the end of the game?
A: It don’t matter. Not really, but when they do, I just got to make the play.

Q: How hard of a play is that, you’re on an island, there’s nobody within 15 yards of you and you can’t get pass interference?
A: It’s hard. Basically I was locked in on that play – well, I was locked in the whole game and I just happened to make a good play.

Q: Why’d you tackle your coach on the sideline? (Laughter)
A: I didn’t try to tackle him, I just fell and then I rolled into him.

Q: The last few weeks out of the bye you have really locked down here. Has anything changed for you in the last four or five weeks here with how you’re playing?
A: I had an injury it was nagging a little bit but I had never told anybody, but it’s not nagging anymore. I just had to get used to it.

Q: At the beginning of the year?
A: Yeah.

Q: Same kind of thing kind of happened to you last year, right?
A: Yeah, but it was coming off of surgery, so I hadn’t run on it full speed that tempo in a couple of months, eight-nine months, and then I was just adjusting. I’m good now.

Q: So what was it?
A: It was just a little irritation. You know how you’re fresh off of injury, you’re just getting back used to the game, you haven’t been out there so long and that’s what it was, and I was just continuing to fight and kept playing. And the injury, it doesn’t nag anymore.

Q: Whatever the surgery was that was right at the end of last season you had something? done?
A: Right.

Q: Just happened to coincide with the bye when it was starting to feel really good?
A: It started feeling good probably Week 3, just without like me coming back after the game coming to get treatment it started getting better after Week 3.

Q: Yesterday there were a lot of players on your team who got banged up, had injuries that probably could’ve sat them out the rest of the game, and they come back in. Does that mean something to you when you see Landon (Collins) come back in even though you know he’s hurting, Sterling Shepard, Saquon (Barkley)?
A: It’s showing that we got great guys on this team, guys that love football and love to compete and just for them to do that, it means a lot to everybody in the locker room and up top and just showing they really like to play football.

Q: Why don’t you guys get a feeling of ‘here we go again’ as a defense when they tie the game like that? They come back and tie it, but then why still have the drive to make the plays in overtime when maybe you can feel it slipping away?
A: We always got to be ready. Coach (Shurmur) always told us no matter what the score is, just always be ready to play. I think we were all ready.

Q: You glad they threw that last pass your way?
A: I was glad to be honest, I was.

Q: Why?
A: Because they were moving the ball and moving the ball and I was steady telling Coach (Shurmur), go double bracket. He started calling 51 and last play of the game, he just called zero.

Q: Which is the ultimate trust in you?
A: You could say that, but it’s just he called zero and I know three-by-one they’re going to come to the backside automatically.

Q: You anticipated that?
A: Correct.

Q: What’s the feeling like when you do make that play?
A: It feels good, it always feels good, but that’s behind me. It’s a new week, just got to come to work again.

Q: Defensive players don’t often get game ending plays like that.
A: It’s just a play I had to make. They look for me to make that play and I made it.

Q: What’d you think of (Alec) Ogletree’s two picks? He looked like a safety out there with his hands?
A: I think he looked more like OBJ (Odell Beckham Jr.) – one handed. Come on man, give the man some credit. That was a great two plays. Tree came in and worked. All he does is work and it’s just showing.

Q: He’s catching you for touchdowns.
A: No. Got a long history.

Q: He’s got, what, four?
A: Four? That’s it? Oh okay. (Laughter)

Q: He’s a linebacker.
A: That ain’t no excuse. How many I got?

Q: Seven.
A: No, go check that again.

Q: How many?
A: I don’t know. Just check it and tell me tomorrow.

Q: I’m checking it right now, I don’t have to wait until tomorrow.
A: He said seven?

Q: Nine.
A: Oh okay, thank you.

Q: Tree’s going to start playing tight end, so he’ll get a couple more.
A: Tree? No. No. (Laughter)

Q: The turnovers have now started coming the last few weeks, though. As a defense, do you feel that and sense that that you can keep that going?
A: Coach is always telling us they come in bunches. We started off slow with getting turnovers at the beginning of the year. Coach just told us stay focused and keep working turnovers, and they’re coming and now they’re coming in bunches.

He's got his swagger back, playing really well right now.
Sometimes we as fans are too quick to judge

A players performance without knowing the whole back story, at some point we just have to trust the coaches judgement, IMO
Really good interview...

he shares about his injury, but also his comments on how he has to look forward to the Redskins when asked about his play yesterday were much appreciated. I love to see that focus, and it's a credit to Jackrabbit and also to Coach Shurmur, who has done a good job of keeping these players focused on winning each upcoming game.
