i love the redskins colors and they're generally the team in the division that i hate the least (despite their dick owner).. that said, as far as i know, they're the only sports franchise whose team name is an actual racial slur/epithet. i don't really care, but it's definitely a dubious distinction, and it's fun to shit on them for it.
The truth is most of them dont give a shit about the Redskins team name. Thry have more important real life things to worry about, unlike white people who spend their day thinking up with new ways to feel guilry about being white.

For some reference, there are over 3 million Native Americans in the United States.
I have a former co-worker who is from Oklahoma but is pretty damn liberal. She calls Native Americans Indians. Why? Because she knows a ton of Native Americans and that's what they call each other. But of course, ignorant people correct her all of the time. It's no secret that often white people are the most outraged on behalf of certain groups that they're not.
Yeah, the ones who signed actually KNEW about the petition. It's not limited to just 6800...
"American Indian" has been widely accepted by the Native American community. Redskins hasn't and never will and it's not difficult to figure out why. It's akin to calling someone Blackskin compared to African-American.
