I think there’s just more incentive to go to the younger, hungrier, healthier players these days even if the talent is less than the guy who’s being replaced.
He mentioned Eli as a QB that would have helped his career.
That being said, Benjamin is injury prone, seems lazy and he's really not that good. Not to mention, the Eli he was referring to doesn't exist anymore.
but this pick being a total bust is more on the player and his work ethic.
Though one can argue scouting should have covered that too.
Which should be something to evaluate in the drafting process.
Very much agreed.
And considering they are developing a young QB to be their franchise, to have decided a 6'5 WR with nfl experience doesn't have a place is a pretty loud statement.
He was on fire his rookie year. He was banged up a lot, but still had 1k yds and 9 tds. Year 2 wasn't the leap I expected. He faded down the stretch and continued that decline. What a waste of talent
but even at FSU was very inconsistent. He would show up sometimes and just dominate, and other times just disappear. With him, I feel like it is just about dedication and effort which isn't going to necessarily get better with a new team.
The Giants are trying to get talent, but also build the right kind of team and culture. I don't think Benjamin fits what they are trying to become.

Throw in a bad work ethic and your out of football .
Seen other players with all the physical talent in the
world with short careers .
Sure bring him in for what ?

Year 2 he tore his ACL in August and didn't play the whole year. That injury seemed to really kill him. He came back and had a good season in 2016, but he was never the same as before the injury.
the work ethic issues around Benjamin. I am in Carolina and saw the way he departed here.
What I'm saying is that the average fan just assumes all players recover completely from injuries. You take a guy with speed and height who loses one advantage, it quickly moves him from a very good player to a mediocre one.
He certainly didn't help himself out by the weight gain during his recovery, but there were other factors too, including the fact that he's never had the same explosion since the injury.

Nicks would be a strong example of that re injury recovery
Yep

I think it's about getting younger and seeing what players they have on their roster
But im not sure he would be a good fit.

Don't even think about bringing him in. Drops waaay to many passes.
Stick a fork in him, he's DONE.

No one is hungrier than Kelvin

a DG pick?
Yep
Interesting. DG should have a good sense on this guy. I don't see why we would make a move now. Feels more patriots-ish.
But im not sure he would be a good fit.
I am not sure if he's the guy, but he's the type of guy we need to add to compliment OBJ's on the outside, and Shep in the slot.
A big body WR has to be on the shopping list this offseason, whether draft or elsewhere.

Some of you guys are hilarious.

He is 6'5" 240 Lbs and his catch rate did improve each of his first three years. And sometimes guys take time to fully recover from an ACL.
No downside at this point in the season. Fowler is a JAG. Guys like Colemen and Benjamin are worth taking a look at imo.
Benjamin had size and speed, and after the injury, he no longer had that advantage in speed. It made a guy who was close to elite and average player.
After seeing what devastating injuries did to Nicks, Cruz and Smith, we should understand that.

+1
Remember how ugly people were to Nicks over his last couple years when he failed to come back at his 2011 level?
People here bashed him for being lazy, a quitter, a piece of garbage, when in reality he just couldn’t playing at the same level after his leg injury.
No one answered your question. Yes, after the trade deadline, all players must pass through waivers.

or are these guys free to sign where ever?

Thanks Diver Down!
I don't think he was a bad pick by Gettleman. The guy just got injured.

Benjamin's injury is legitimate.
Benjamin showing up to training camp hideously out of shape isn't. The articles are there to be read.
