He thinks Barkley is something special, talking about his lateral agility and "acceleration off the charts."

They traded Dickerson mid season to the Colts in a 3 way trade in 1987, which unbelievably the Bills ended up getting the best of the deal.
The Rams were a bad team that year, finished 6-9, but the Dickerson distractions and strike hurt them. They started 1-7 and finished 5-2. But that year Charles White came off the bench to rush for 1374 yards.
The next year, Greg Bell (who came over from the Bills) would rush for 1212 yards and 16 TDs in 1988 and 1137 and 15 TDs in 1989. So the Rams great offensive line more than helped replace Dickerson.
Meanwhile Dickerson was great in 1987, he rushed for 1011 yards in 9 games. Helped the Colts go from a 3-13 team in 1986 to the playoffs in 1987. In 1988 and 1989 he put up 1659 yards and 1311 yards, better than Bell but still comparable. By 1990 at age 30 he was cooked. He only rushed for 677 yards and missed time with injuries and he was never a factor again.
The Colts only made the playoffs that 1987 season. The Rams meanwhile went to the playoffs 2 straight years and the NFC Championship in 1989.
But as I mentioned, the Bills came out of that trade with Cornelius Bennett, who was holding out from the Colts. Bennett allowed the Bills to move Shane Conlin inside where he was better suited and solidified the entire defense to set up for their Super Bowl runs.
Anyway, tl/dr. Dickerson was a great back who's numbers were inflated by a great line and he never really led his teams anywhere. And he fumbled a lot. Barkley is closer to Barry Sanders, who was better than Dickerson. And his trade made the Bills better. The end.
Way too short a career, but his sheer brilliance has never been equalled except maybe by Sanders.
Nobody did everything like Sayers: running, catching, returning both KOs and punts.
His TD per touch ratio is still the best, no? And he wasn't the same player post knee surgery...
Also I'd rate OJ over Dickerson, maybe even Earl Campbell.

Depends on you define comeback. If you're talking about the 1st season back, AP runs away with the award (no pun intended): MVP and rushing title (>2000 yds)
