NGT: GB fires Associate Head Coach after Aaron Rodger tweet

Britt in VA : 12/5/2018 9:25 am
Here's the tweet:

Quote:
Winston Moss
@Insanecane99
Ponder this... what Championship teams have are great leadership! Period! It’s not the offensive guru trend, it’s not the safe trend. Find somebody that is going to hold #12 and everybody in this building to a #LombardiStandard! Period! #losingsucks!

Here's the article:

Quote:
GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers dismissed Winston Moss, the associate head coach in charge of linebackers and a 13-year veteran of the staff , hours after a tweet about star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

back McCarthy and he felt he had to stand up for the rest of the coaches.

Sad that a QB has that much influence over the coaching staff.
Either Moss is a complete and utter moron
giants#1 : 12/5/2018 9:46 am : link
or:

1. He knew this would get him fired and felt it was worth tweeting in 'defense' of McCarthy anyway
2. Has a job lined up with McCarthy wherever he ends up
Did he actually blame Twitter
Mr. Bungle : 12/5/2018 9:47 am : link
in his follow-up tweet about being let go?!

Hahahaha
Wait a sec - is someone implying that Rodgers had him fired
jcn56 : 12/5/2018 9:48 am : link
for this?

This doesn't seem like an extraordinary act of stupidity or a deliberate attempt to get let go?

George Costanza doing donuts with the WS trophy was the pre-Twitter equivalent.
I'm curious to know if Rodgers
bradshaw44 : 12/5/2018 9:49 am : link
bothered going to McCarthy during the week or even in training camp and see if they could get on the same page. It seems careless for both of them to not try and work together.

I saw an old NFLN special a few years ago about BB and Brady and it showed how much time they spent together 1 on 1 in BB's office going over film together. Why wouldn't these two try and have a meeting of minds instead of backstabbing like a couple of teenagers?
I would guess that Winston had likely
Diver_Down : 12/5/2018 9:52 am : link
made his opinion known behind closed doors for some time. With the realization that he is likely gone at the end of the season when a new regime is installed, he chose the timing now, to make his opinion public. He was going to be fired either way. It is just a matter of now or in 4 weeks. If he made a comment in 4 weeks, it would be dismissed as a disgruntled employee. By posting the comment now, it gives a bit of insight that perhaps there has been some organizational pandering to Rodgers and holding him to a different standard than others.

Fun to watch

GB implode mainly because I have a few friends/acquaintances that were all of a sudden GB fans starting in the mid to late 90's. Also because Rodgers seems to act like a prick and Favre was a prick.

Wise move by a lame duck coach looking for employment next year. The guy has been interviewed for head coaching jobs recently. This is minor, but in a role where good decisions are crucial he just made a dumb one publicly

Of course. That's the kind of stuff you want everyone to keep in house. With players, it's tricky because they're a lot harder to replace. With a member of the coaching staff, who's easier to replace and is supposed to be held to a higher standard? No doubt about it.

Absolutely. When you go public with that kind of criticism of your employer or other employees, you need to be fired. It does not matter at all if the criticism is valid or not.

If you have something to say, go to management. If they ignore you then you can choose to deal with it or leave. But this is not some kind of corporate whistleblower who deserves respect for speaking up.
Should he not be fired?
Mike in Long Beach : 12/5/2018 10:53 am : link
If a player.. say Sterling Shepard, got on Twitter and started taking shots at Eli and saying the staff isn't holding him accountable, you would be OK with that? Only different is, this isn't a 25 year old receiver. It's a coach and supposed leader who should know better.
Why tweet?

well, at least the coach wasn't fired 3 years ago.

C'mon, for someone who spends a lot of time bemoaning the hit jobs by the media, that doesn't fly.

So when everyone ran around posting articles from unnamed sources and scouts about how Eli was done, was there smoke there as well?

I'm sure there's a good chance Rodgers is a grade A asshole. At the same time, he had a borderline incompetent coach for some time now, and everyone knew it. They've underperformed yet again, and the coach got the axe. Given that it was rumored that he and Rodgers weren't seeing eye to eye, articles smearing Rodgers are easily written and draw a lot of eyeballs for the media, right up their alley.
I love how some are putting this on Arod.
Keith : 12/5/2018 12:28 pm : link
The coach probably had a good relationship with McCarthy and went down with him. Just stupid on the coaches part, but how does this have anything to do with Arod? Did he call ownership to point out the tweet and suggest they fire him?
Just to clarify...
Mike from Ohio : 12/5/2018 1:32 pm : link
The Associate Head Coach was in no way, shape or form fired because of anything Aaron Rodgers did. He was fired by the organization for a stupid tweet in which he mentioned Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers may or may not be an asshole, but "Aaron Rodgers got this guy fired" is an incorrect interpretation of this story. The associate coach got fired because he is an idiot.

LOL
So Rodgers is an asshole ...
MetsAreBack : 12/5/2018 3:10 pm : link
Because after 1 title in 13 years despite his incredible individual numbers - he may have gotten a head coach fired?

That makes no sense. It's a business and I don't blame Rodgers for wanting to try something new. The analogy to Brady and BB is irrelevant since those two have 5 titles and 8 Super Bowl appearances.

This assistant coach deserved his dismissal. And who are all these people coming out of the woodwork about AR? We have one felon TE and a couple of McCarthys friends... that's not everyone or even close to it
Rodgers is such a Dou--e Bag
Vanzetti : 12/5/2018 3:58 pm : link
And that more than anything else is why he has only one championship, despite his talent.

What coach is going to join an organization where the inmates run the asylum? I predict Ben McAdoo will be the next coach because nobody with a proven track record is going to join an organization where the star player calls the shots.

Yeah, what coach would want to take over a team with a HoF QB in his prime signed long term? They'd be lucky to get a special teams coordinator from D-3 school.

Cleveland is an up and coming team, and everyone knows right now who is running the show in Green Bay.

Winston Moss tweeted this knowing Aaron Rodgers would fire him for it.
Aaron Rodgers didn't fire him!

This coach committed career suicide by taking organizational business to twitter. Any coach in any sport doing this should have and likely would have been fired.

The inference that Rodgers had this guy fired is completely false and intentionally misleading.
