Hoping for a quick and full recovery for him. He wasn't having that great a year to begin with and now it's been cut short. I don't see any team giving him a big contract this year. He may have to settle for a one year prove it deal. Hopefully with the Giants.
After his sophomore season I thought he would be a perennial all-pro and building block. He didn't make close to the impact since then and I don't think he will be back. I wish Gettleman accepted the Chiefs 3rd round offer at the deadline.
he still has the same strengths and weaknesses as before. The talent and overall play of the defense around him has regressed though, and brought him down with it. He's been asked to do more than he's capable of. We never put him next to a competent safety. Still a good player
He never was very good in coverage and has been exposed a lot over the last couple of seasons. Lack of a pass rush and good corners has weakened his performance. Definitely not looking at a big contract.
Yeah, perhaps regressed isn't the word I should have used. He just looked all worldly in '16 & hasn't looked that good since. He's no doubt been hurt by the talent surrounding him, but he's never been an ace in coverage.
At best he’s been a neutral player the past two seasons. But the reality is that O-cos have been targeting Collins in their game plans for almost two seasons and he hasn’t been able to adjust. And it’s not just his coverage skills that have been exposed. Partly on him, partly on the coaches probably but either way, he’s not a plus player. Didn’t want to sign him before his shoulder injury. Don’t want to sign him now.
This is a huge loss for us this year? I hate to say this because I don’t analyze safeties very well, but it seems Collins is a liability when not near the line of scrimmage.
change might to will.
Questionable health given this injury, of course. He's been durable throughout his tenure with the Giants.
Shoulder surgery is extremely inconsistent and there will be good arguments made to letting him walk or coming in with a low offer.

But he's going to want to big bucks and I wouldn't give it to him given his questionable health and spotty play the last couple of seasons.

Didn't he break his arm last year?
everybody wants big bucks - OBJ wanted to be the highest paid player in the league
At the right price I'd bring him back

Only missed one game because of it

Well, OBJ is the highest paid WR in the league. A slight step-down. Collins for sure will want 10M+ per.
