I like Collins as a player.
He's about to get paid (possibly) - tough time to come down with an injury.
His off season maybe one of the most interesting, not just on the NYG, but the whole NFL.
I'm sure that there are a lot of safetys in the NFL watching to see what happens with him.

want out guys on "team friendly" contracts, never seen a guy i didn't want on one of those.
The safety market was bare last offseason, however landon is a household name around the league. It'll be interesting...i'm sure if he gets to be a free agent he'll get paid way more than the rebuilding giants would like to pay him

Giants can tag him
Why in the world would you tag Landon Collins, who is a shoulder tackler, coming off a major shoulder injury which requires surgery, at 12 million dollars?
Maybe he's her source for all the Giants things she tweets about Â
'Coach Shurmur: Landon Collins has a shoulder injury that will most likely require surgery. It’s not final yet. We’ve been getting it evaluated for the past couple of days.' https://twitter.com/Giants/status/1070350069982027776 - ( New Window )
So you are quoting speculation from Anderson as fact, instead of posting what Shurmur actually said in your OP?
Giants don't need him during this era of restructure. Money should be used elsewhere.
Their defense needs an identify first and then they can start paying high prices for players. Defense looks a mess. No pass rushers or any type of fierceness.
Collins isn't a "generational" talent.
I think that we've seen the last of Landon Collins in a Giants Jersey Â
had a legit NFL defensive player of the year campaign under his belt from 2016.
Someone is going to think they can get that out of him again and be willing to pay for it.
That is just the nature of the salary Cap era you have to get the most for the money. Also as a fan why get emotionally invested in a player that can just walk somewhere else for more money
I think if you watch a lot of NFL games, Collins is not Â
He will be back on a 1 year prove it deal. He's not getting big money in free agency before medical clearance and he's not missing an off-season with a new defense and getting 1 year money comparable to what we can offer him.
RE: RE: It's a weird poison how quickly fans turn on their own players. Â

I think we pick and choose what players to get emotionally invested in. And also, every time a player contract comes up, fans get upset at the idea of contracts that don't even exist yet. Nobody here has any idea what his salary would be. He's said nothing. For some reason there's an assumption that he's going to be a huge contract, yet we're ripping him for the things we've known since game 1 of his career he doesn't do well.
all your collins haters will see how valuable he is to defense for the rest of the season ..
should be interesting to see if Defense will get worse or stay the same
Nobody hates Collins.
By all accounts he is a good player, good teammate and good person.
Saying that is isn't a wise use of a resources to pay Landon Collins like a top 5 safety in 2019 (by using the franchise tag) is not the same as being a "hater".
RE: If his recovery takes until next June (6 months) Â

That recovery time takes him well into the offseason and past free agency. I could see him coming back on a 1 year show me type of deal. Who's shelling out a ton of guaranteed $ for him in the condition he'll be in when everyone is shelling it out.
I like Collins as a player.

This would be a good use of a transition tag.
It's hard to commit a franchise tag to a player coming off injury. It's also unlikely he will sign early in FA, as the timing of this injury in December would push his recovery closed to May.
Collins probably would love to be tagged right now as a franchise tag.
I think when he is able to play to his strengths he is excellent but man coverage is not one of them.
You don't think any team in the NFL is going to be willing to give LC a deal longer than one year?
I know the guy has limitations in the passing game, but he is an elite in the box safety who can make game-changing plays.
There is no doubt a team that thinks they are close will pay for that.

Nope Wrong... this is what the Giants tweeted

That's not going to be here.
I also agree with those saying let’s not pay a premium to bring him back

Compare him to our own last free agent safety -- Antrell Rolle. Rolle was a much better all around safety. Where the next 'trell at?
should be interesting to see if Defense will get worse or stay the same

Rolle was a converted Cornerback, so it bears out, yeah.

This is 100% correct.
I know he brings toughness, and plays hard, but..
