It was recommended in my Making a Murderer Facebook group and for fans of true crime I don't think it's any worse than MaM. It was really good. It's about the murder case of the novelist Michael Peterson.
I had such a hard time getting into it at first because I got so used to MaM and had change course. I find it that my perception of a show is different in the beginning of a series than it is later. I wonder how I'd feel about the first few episodes if I rewatched them now.
Also, one really sad thing about criminal justice is that I think most people are presumed guilty by the jury despite that not being the way it's supposed to work. When I heard about the case, in the beginning, I figured he was guilty and I'm sure I wasn't the only one. I think it's always an uphill battle.
They leave out some important details but it was pretty interesting.
Also, how many episodes were there when you watched it? They definitely added episodes because they have footage from as recent as 2017. You may want to finish watching it.

Who was it?
Bobby Dassey and Scott Tadych, in my opinion. Season 2 of MaM was drawn out and longer than it needed to be, but in my mind it delivered answers to the questions I had leftover from Season 1.
The car being found on the property was something I couldn't wrap my head around and I thought they did a good job coming up with explanations for how that happened and possible motives as to why. Especially that we know for a fact now that Theresa's car left the Avery property after she met with Steven.
As for the staircase, as crazy as it sounds, I believe the Owl theory 100%. Owls are known to attack in that area and the scars on her head match perfectly to what some sort of attack like that would look like. They even found Owl Feathers in the wife's hair and in her hands! Also the hair that was found in her hands was found to be her own hair that had been pulled out of her head by herself, consistent with what would happen in the case of an Owl being on your head and you trying to tear him off Imagine having your families lives destroyed by an owl? Unbelievably crazy stuff.
100000% ran her down and did all the evil things Steven was accused of.
Eye witnesses claim to have seen Theresa leave the property after she met with Steven. Also Steven's account of the events has never wavered and if he were guilty and lying he would have slipped up at some point - he's not the brighest.

Yea they made a VERY strong case that it was Dassey and Tadych. They also shot holes through (no pun intended) the prosecutions case about her being shot in the garage. Not too mention the search dogs scent trail on to the other property and the witness that saw her car by the quarry where the dogs picked up the scent.

While I agree with the first half of this, I think you're on the complete opposite end of the spectrum and seem to think that just because someone was convicted of a crime he/she is definitely guilty. Another extreme that does not reflect reality.
I agree on the filler, I think they really wanted another 10 part series. That said I still thought it was really good.
