Timely thread. I'll be in tomorrow with my wife and 2 girls (14 and 11) to see the tree and go to (gulp) Jingle Ball. Any recs for a cool atmosphere dinner between Central Park and the Garden are welcome as well.

I'm surprised it's still around. Jingle Ball was pretty cool 15 years ago...and then music got sucky.
Yep. I last went back in the day when I was in High School. Bon Jovi, Lenny Kravitz, Duran Duran, etc. Now its Cardi B, Shawn Mendes and other assorted dreck.

I remember I almost went to Zootopia one year in middle school, but my friend bailed last minute and I didn't feel like going to a concert with my mom. I COULD'VE SEEN WAYNE WONDER AND BOWLING FOR SOUP!

"This was cool 15 years ago but sucks now" is the mantra of every person who has ever lived past the age of 30.

Agreed, music is dreck nowadays but I would throw in Bon Jovi. He was kind of John the Baptist of dreck music.
is good if you want a NY diner/deli feel. I usually go for breakfast or lunch, but with a family it's a good dinner spot too.
otherwise I agree about Carmines, but you need reservations at Carmines and I doubt you get in there tomorrow. Check open table I think they're on there.
Also to consider is Virgils, you might have better luck with finding a time on a Friday night at Virgil's barbecue. It has a good family atmosphere and good bbq for NYC.
...trying to get into a midtown/theater district restaurant on a Friday night during holiday season without a reservation is going to be very hard indeed in all likelihood. If you have time choose a place for dinner away from the midtown/Rock Center/Theater District crowds and then rake the train or a cab back to Times Square. Better and less crowded restaurants. For example, the W Village or Chelsea are very close to Times Square but without the same concentration of tourists and tree visitors. Just a thought.

Sorry for derailing your thread, Chris
Danny K, I'll be with you in spirit. Not doing Jingle Ball because my daughter is too young but give it 10 years a I guess?
Tree, which we'll be able to see from my office at least to avoid the crowds there, but dinner too. Already called a few places that are booked up.

Probably good for kids, though
