NFT: NYC Restaurant Suggestions

Chris684 : 12/6/2018 2:56 pm
Looking for restaurant recommendation for tomorrow.

Theatre district, midtown, midtown east, preferably near Rock center.

Can accommodate child/high chair, more of a family environment.

Thanks all.

Timely thread. I'll be in tomorrow with my wife and 2 girls (14 and 11) to see the tree and go to (gulp) Jingle Ball. Any recs for a cool atmosphere dinner between Central Park and the Garden are welcome as well.

Jingle Ball? I'M JELLLLLLLY. WHO'S PERFORMING? ARIANA GRANDE? ONE DIRECTION? JUSTIN BIEBER?

I'm surprised it's still around. Jingle Ball was pretty cool 15 years ago...and then music got sucky.

I remember I almost went to Zootopia one year in middle school, but my friend bailed last minute and I didn't feel like going to a concert with my mom. I COULD'VE SEEN WAYNE WONDER AND BOWLING FOR SOUP!

Sorry for derailing your thread, Chris
Near Rock Center + Family Friendly?

Bill's Burger on 51st.
No problem on derailing thread haha
Chris684 : 12/6/2018 3:22 pm : link
Bill's burger was my pick but the wife is a vegetarian.

Danny K, I'll be with you in spirit. Not doing Jingle Ball because my daughter is too young but give it 10 years a I guess?

Tree, which we'll be able to see from my office at least to avoid the crowds there, but dinner too. Already called a few places that are booked up.

"This was cool 15 years ago but sucks now" is the mantra of every person who has ever lived past the age of 30.

Agreed, music is dreck nowadays but I would throw in Bon Jovi. He was kind of John the Baptist of dreck music.
I agree with Carmines on 44th Street

family style Italian- good not great, but not expensive either.
Dos Caminos near Times Square
lawguy9801 : 12/6/2018 4:02 pm : link
Mexican. I was expecting a tourist trap with crap food, but it was really, really good. Fantastic guac, if you're into that.
Juniors
pjcas18 : 12/6/2018 4:11 pm : link
is good if you want a NY diner/deli feel. I usually go for breakfast or lunch, but with a family it's a good dinner spot too.

otherwise I agree about Carmines, but you need reservations at Carmines and I doubt you get in there tomorrow. Check open table I think they're on there.

Also to consider is Virgils, you might have better luck with finding a time on a Friday night at Virgil's barbecue. It has a good family atmosphere and good bbq for NYC.
John's Pizza of Times Square
bigbluehoya : 12/6/2018 4:44 pm : link
is a good spot. Vegetarian friendly (obviously), excellent pizza, fine for kids, cool decor/atmosphere.
If you want something a bit more upscale with better food than Carmine
richynyc : 12/6/2018 11:21 pm : link
...or John’s there’s an excellent Mexican on W 50th calledYoloache that has some good vegetarian options
Sorry
richynyc : 12/6/2018 11:22 pm : link
Toloache
Juniors is a good pick. The 45th St one is better.

The cake shake should keep the little ones happy.
Also, as some have already mentioned...
richynyc : 12/7/2018 12:17 am : link
...trying to get into a midtown/theater district restaurant on a Friday night during holiday season without a reservation is going to be very hard indeed in all likelihood. If you have time choose a place for dinner away from the midtown/Rock Center/Theater District crowds and then rake the train or a cab back to Times Square. Better and less crowded restaurants. For example, the W Village or Chelsea are very close to Times Square but without the same concentration of tourists and tree visitors. Just a thought.

worst Italian food I have ever had. Id rather eat to the OG.

Probably good for kids, though
