What did we see in Omameh to give him 3 years

This play is absolutely pathetic
Omameh - ( New Window )

Omameh and Flowers

Wow. I mean I think our struggles offensively in the first half of the year can be pinpointed to these 2.
Without question

Maybe it was payback by Tom. Tells Mara and Gettleman theyíre signing Norwell but Omameh can help them...
They saw a more than serviceable player
Big Blue '56 : 12/7/2018 8:06 am : link
who was better than Jerry.

Also, we have no idea whether they wanted Fluker back or he opted to leave before we could make an acceptable offer

It was either pickup Joe nobody off the streets after 4 tackles were injured or call flowers.. You would've obviously picked up joe nobody.. Same with Omameh.. TC didn't chose them he was forced to get them after injuries..

TC re-inserted O'Hara
Chris684 : 12/7/2018 8:15 am : link
into the lineup in 2010. If I'm not mistaken Seubert had shifted over to Center and Boothe plugged in at LG so ultimately Boothe went back to the bench.

TC also sat Locklear down in favor of Diehl in 2012.

yet, clearly, he wasn't. Fluker, good for running game, bad for passing - opposite of Jerry.

Fluker stinks in pass blocking, I think Brown is better than him. Brown is a more well-rounded player. He's not a world beater, but we could do much worse right now.

Yeah but to be fair Joe Nobody was a 1st team All American at LSU as a junior and has shown some promise pass blocking. It's really been more injuries holding him back than anything.
Agreed but at least he's playing

I'm basically never right about players -- but Omameh is about as bad of lineman on a roster in the NFL. He was bad in Jax, and it was obvious. I was floored when he was signed.

He's every bit as bad as John Jerry and actually a pretty similar player.

There was some character on here just dying to give me shit around every corner because I thought Jerry was better. Probably a draw on that argument because they both suck.
He is awful and
NYG007 : 12/7/2018 8:49 am : link
so is John Jerry. Neither should play in the NFL. How bad was Flowers last night?

DG signed him in a desperate attempt to have a "big guy" help our disgusting line. And let's please stop mentioning Fluker, he played ok for us. Ok for San Diego & OK for Seattle. If we kept Fluker we dont get Brown, who's twice as good as Fluker.
So funny
lecky : 12/7/2018 8:50 am : link
to watch Flowers and Omameh lined up right next to each other for the Jaguars. And then be stupid enough to run behind them from the 3 yard line and get stopped 4 times. Since those 2 came they just can not score. Nor did they win a game.
there were a lot of posters on BBI celebrating the Omameh signing...

Desperation. Neither would be there otherwise. Not only their starters but their second tier players all went down with injuries. They have 6 linemen on IR including both starting tackles, the starting center and guard and the second string guard, tackle and center.
Signing Omameh was a mistake
giants#1 : 12/7/2018 10:03 am : link
Letting Fluker walk was not. Missed the last month+ due to injury last year and has already missed 3 games this season.

it really was a story that the Giants were desperate

Jerry wasn't the answer -- he never met the stunt that he couldn't watch rip by him

Fluker wasn't the answer either

Omameh was hoped to be at least a better player -- but he wasn't -- Jamon Brown - a reject was a better player than him or Jerry - or Fluker for that matter

The Giants are scrapping for solutions -- fortunately they seem to be ready to say bu-ya this year

Flowers is unbelievably bad -- it is scary watching him and Omanmeh playing together on the left side --

who was it here that said Omameh would be better off in his "natural position" ?

it was scary watching Flowers/Omameh

playing together on the right side too. Can't get much worse than the first drive of the season...

This time last year, all the talk was about how TC fixed the Jags, the Giants colossally fucked up by letting him go, how he knew what it took to fix the offensive line, etc.

... and now his team is stuck with two of our rejects and very well may finish the year with a worse record than we will.

I realize Cam Robinson is hurt and injuries forced this. But a year ago, the Jags were being talked about as this model franchise and Coughlin was being heaped praise for turning them around.

Well....

And then he had a senior moment and gave Bortles a big $ deal! I'd argue that hurt them as much as the injuries.

Lol, yup. I have no idea what anyone ever could have seen that made them think Blake Bortles was a franchise QB, but... well, he clearly is not.

21M cap hit next year! For Blake fucking Bortles.

Terrible.

This is when I gave up on TC. It was infuriating to watch Deihl was just shot, and we kept playing him over much better backups. The wheels completely fell off over the next couple of seasons.

both Diehl and KM were done in 2011 and needed to be replaced and Reese whiffed for years..wasted prime years of ELI time..

the drafting and FA signings were a continuous disaster, hopefully DG can change this, he took a flyer on Omameh, I give him credit for cutting him fast once he was a mistake
This is what worries me about DG

the many of the people he brought in besides the draft have been absolute disasters, is this the guy we want making the FA signings going forward???? I have huge doubts based on this past year.

believe anyone thought Omameh would be as bad as he was. A few pointed out that he wasn't that great on the Jags. General consensus was that he would at least be better than what was there prior. It didn't work out, last year he was most likely the weak point on an otherwise good line with Fournette making up for it. This year he was on a terrible line where he faults were more exposed, and combine that with Flowers next to him...disaster.

After they lost out on Norwell, Solder + Omameh probably seemed like the next best option to Gettlemen at the time and I don't doubt they viewed Omameh as a stop-gap with the hope of working out. Everyone going into this year knew the o-line wasn't going to be fixed in one off-season and not much better, but they definitely started off worse than expected. At least give credit for them keeping players accountable and benching/getting rid of them mid-season and finding a better replacement (and the emphasis on changing the team culture has been very apparent). That never happened with Reese in charge. Not every draft pick and FA signing is going to hit and sometimes you just have to take what you can get.

With a decent FA signing and hitting on another draft pick the line has the opportunity to actually be serviceable next year, I'd be happy with that and much better than Reese has accomplished since 2011. Barkley has been all-world with a shit o-line in front of him, he's been better as of late as the o-line has been improving. Give him an even better line next year, build the team around him, barring injury the dude is going to make history. He's going to help ease in the next QB as well.
I watched a lot of Jaguar games a year ago,and I honestly
Jimmy Googs : 12/8/2018 7:43 am : link
thought Omameh was going to be an upgrade over Jerry. Mostly because I thought that hurdle was set pretty low but also by his play in 2017.

Omameh wasn't blowing guys off the LOS when he supported in the JAGs strong run game in 2017, but he was able to engage and often turn or get his guy off-balance enough to make a hole. His pass-blocking was always average at best but serviceable.

But indeed, he sucked for us...

That pissed me off when O'Hara was reinserted right before the playoffs. He was clearly finished as a starter and Coughlin stuck with him out of loyalty. When Seubert was shifted over to center the line play significantly better with him and Boothe at LG. As soon as O'Hara was put back into the starting lineup the line struggled once again. This was Coughlin's biggest flaw IMO.
