NFT: A little brag about my field trial dog

ctc in ftmyers : 12/7/2018 4:32 pm
Rumel's Augie doggie, aka Augie, finished 3rd in the nation in open all age, the top competition category and 5th in the open shooting dog completion in trials that the dogs are run of of horseback.

He just turned 3 on October 25th. Needless to say, I'm one proud papa.
Congratulations man!!

That's very cool.
What breed?
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 12/7/2018 4:39 pm : link
Are these the trials held in TN?
Should have said he is a German Shorthair Pointer
ctc in ftmyers : 12/7/2018 4:40 pm : link

Don't know of a GSP championship run
ctc in ftmyers : 12/7/2018 4:51 pm : link
in Tenn. Now grand junction is a whole different story. EP's and have one out of Frank and Mary's breeding.
I have had four GSPs
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 12/7/2018 4:55 pm : link
and a dog who is half GSP and half huskie. He was a sled dog - they bred GSPs into their line to give them bigger rib cages for long distance racing. Now he is just happy not to be out in the cold 23 hours a day.

GSPs are such sweet, intelligent and loving dogs. Congratulations.

No. Moved out of Jersey 40 years ago. Saw he was a Vistula guy.

I have been to Grand Junction but not when they were running trials. Friend of mine has a hunting lodge near there.

stop peeing on the floor when my wife comes home or when the cleaning lady comes over. He’s currently barking at me for no apparent reason.

Congrats!

One of my closest friends has a GSP - about a year old now. Just over a year. Fantastic dog. I took care of him a couple times when I was a little pup.

My Golden is going to hopefully meet him soon to play and be friends. My guy is very wild, though. Trying to reign him in a little before play dates. :)
so are you the one with

ranch we run on in Cheyenne Wyoming. Think Safari Mountain Supply. He owns it. Please support him. Enough of the commercial. Next is is Dan, my pro handler/trainer. I knew his grandfather and him since he was knee high. Posing Augie is April. Dog scout extraordinaire and can ride as well if not better than anyone on this site making dogs and horse do what they think they cant.
Wasn't out there this year Bill.

My Wife passed away a year ago and haven't left the responsibility of taking care of the animals here to anyone else. Maybe this year coming up.

Was leaving a get together last night to feed and a friend asked me when I was going to rid myself of being tied down to the animals. Told her I was doing it since I was a child growing up on the farm and love my animals.

To leave big animals to some one who doesn't know what their doing can become expensive quickly.
Love dogs!

Super cool, great job.

Don't have any dogs, due to my kids have cats that at times come to visit.

I gotta say though, NYC dog show is awesome!

You'll get around to it when you're ready to. Just keep doing what feels right.
Good stuff!

When I hear people spending time with their dogs especially doing what they were bred to do. The bond you develop with your dog while training/trialing is priceless. Just got a pup myself and am laying the foundation for years of obedience and carting trials. Hats off to you and your pup on your outstanding accomplishment!!
Beautiful dog
Archer : 12/8/2018 9:48 am : link
I love dogs that are working dogs
They have a purpose . They are healthy, happy , and well behaved

I can’t imagine the work that goes into the training
I imagine that the dog has to be predisposed

Any tips for training of dogs ?
I have a Boerboel that has basic off leash training but I would like to start more advanced training for shutzhund

I would get with a club that specializes in that. Except for basic obedience training there would be little that would be the same. As with any animal, make training fun, not too long, and end on a positive note. If the dog or you are having a bad day, time to stop and walk away.
Thanks
Archer : 12/8/2018 11:13 pm : link
I will research a shutzhund club
I am looking forward to the process

congrats

Ctc ... sorry to hear about the loss of your wife.

Congratulations on the position your dog finished. I really am ignorant though. Is he a show dog? I am not sure if you want to explain it though .... "shooting dog completion running of of horseback"? I think you made a typo there but, even if you didn't I am not sure I would understand exactly how the competition works.

Just curious ... congrats anyway!

Should be off of horseback. I attached a video of the Pointer National Championship that's held at Grand Junction Tennessee.

My dog Is a German Shorthanded pointer that competes in that breeds field trials.

Should give you an idea on what;s involved.
