Which of these Three Storylines was your Favorite? (SB 42)

Anakim : 12/8/2018 10:50 am
1) Eli and Coughlin telling the haters to go fuck off and winning the Lombardi

2) Top veterans like Sam Madison, R.W. McQuarters, and Jeff Feagles (particularly Madison and Feagles) FINALLY getting their Super Bowl rings after so many years of dominating at their respective positions.

3) Career Giants like Strahan and Toomer FINALLY getting their Super Bowl rings.

One of the best aspects to that run was the experts picking against us each week during the playoffs

But for me, Eli 1000X more than Coughlin.
Wow. I’d say 1 and then

Toomer getting a ring.

Living in Boston made this even sweeter.

And then again 4 years later. Nothing like Ann Mara calling out Terry Bradshaw
Probably 3.

I know I'm in a tiny minority on this point, but I actually wish Tiki Barber had been able to take that final bow with Strahan and Toomer.

Story line 1 was more a Super Bowl XXI thing for me. As maligned as Eli was his first four seasons, it was nothing compared to the physical, emotional and verbal abuse heaped on Phil Simms from 1979-1983.
Can I go with 1 & 3?
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 12/8/2018 11:27 am : link
Toomer is probably my 3rd favorite Giant ever after Eli & Tuck so I was stoked that he got a ring.
3 for me. Strahan and Toomer were such a big part

of the Giants back then.

It was the final piece to a stunning transformation for Eli. Prior to and during the first half of the Bills game there were serious discussions in the media that the 2007 season would be Eli's last in NY. Then a huge TD run by Bradshaw and a career altering late game interception by Corey Webster turned around the season. Webster was buried on the depth chart at the time. The Giants were heading to the playoffs but had the one game left against the Patriots that gave them the spark they needed to win the SB.
Straham swan song....hell, that entire DL dominating

Yes, I loved that, too, when she asked Terry Bradshaw why he never picked them.

As for the original question, I'll go with #3. And I loved it when Strahan did his little shtick at the victory parade when he stomped the patriots.
None of the above. My favorite wasn't a "storyline"
CT Charlie : 12/8/2018 12:14 pm : link
but the simple, primal moment where Jay Alford flattened Tom Brady.
Strahan
Jimmy Googs : 12/8/2018 12:16 pm : link
swan song...
Surprised no one said #2
Anakim : 12/8/2018 1:00 pm : link
I mean we're obviously biased towards the Giants, but Feagles had entered the league in 1988!!! 20 years in the NFL without a Super Bowl!

And Sam Madison was one of the best CBs of his era. Madison and Patrick Surtain were truly a shutdown duo with the Dolphins.
I wouldn't call
Gman11 : 12/8/2018 1:03 pm : link
Madison and McQuarters dominant. They were good players, but dominant? Nah. Beside, all three played the bulk of their careers with other teams. It's not like they were lifetime Giants that finally got the ring - like Strahan.

I probably wouldn't pick any of the three. It was an improbable win against an undefeated opponent. Nobody gave them a shot to even get that far. Most thought they would lose in the first playoff game. Yet, they beat the mighty Patriots and limited one of the game's most prolific offenses to only 14 points. THAT is the story line.

McQuarters wasn't, but Madison was most certainly one of the best CBs of the late 90's and early to mid 2000's.

I limited it to three storylines ("THESE three"). There are obviously more and possibly better ones.

I said "these three storylines"
Anakim : 12/8/2018 2:13 pm : link
I didn't ask what your favorite overall storyline was. But alright. I got some good answers here!
1, 2 and 3
Big Blue '56 : 12/8/2018 2:25 pm : link
in that order. So, 1
3
TD : 12/8/2018 3:06 pm : link
Followed by 1 and then 2.
There was a storyline posted here on BBI
mrvax : 12/8/2018 3:37 pm : link
about a Giants fan who somehow stumbled upon a press pass. He was able to enter the locker room, run around the field with Coughlin and sat in special seating during the victory parade.

He took a lot of pics as proof and posted them on BBI. Does anyone else remember that guy? Wish I saved the thread.

Yup. I lived in Orlando at the time and was surprised how many people rooted for the Giants.

This for me too. Fuck the Patriots, and it was even sweeter that we were the ones who stopped them!
Definitely Strahan and Toomer retiring with a title
j_rud : 12/8/2018 6:11 pm : link
And I know you asked for our favorite of the three you listed, but Brady's smug chuckle and "We're only gonna score 17 points?" comment deserves a mention. I had a "just happy they got here" mindset before that, and it left me all kinds of pissed off and fired up.
IMO at that time
mrvax : 12/8/2018 7:05 pm : link
I was 100% satisfied when they beat the Cows. Elated. On the Pats last TD drive I knew they would score and left the room for a balcony overlooking a lake. I was pretty much resigned to a good showing by our Giants but I thought it was over.

...Until Tyree's helmet catch.
For me...
Milton : 12/8/2018 8:15 pm : link
It was how they got there with the win in Green Bay as Lawrence Tynes ran onto the field in OT to kick the game-winning field goal while Coughlin--the control freak--stood frozen and indecisive on the sideline.

Yes. It was amazing Tynes just ran out there having already missed 2 FGs IIRC.

Eli had taken sooo much shit from talking heads and peers. Coughlin had gotten so close to the mountain top only to fall short each time. To reach the peak together under the most insurmountable odds was just a surreal accomplishment and one that resonated with fans and peers alike. Just a great way to put a stamp on it and knock the legs out from under the haters. And double stamping it four years later was such a nice confirmation that XLII wasn’t a fluke.

Secondly I love Strahan and Toomer being able to get rings after all the work they put in for the Giants and the league. It was fitting that those two got to essentially finish their careers at the top. Although Toomer played a little longer it was basically the end of his career.

I feel like option 3 is what a lot of players go through each year a super bowl is won. There are usually journeymen players that finally found their way into a winning situation at the end of the road. While it was nice it wasn’t a particularly unique storyline.

Last paragraph should say option “2”
