NFT: Computer Network Question

Samiam : 12/9/2018 3:05 pm
Staying at a place on vacation at a place I stayed at last year. I’m using the same IPhone and laptop I used last year. When I turned the equipment on, the same router was recognized & I did not have to enter the router password. Here’s the issue. We have a new IPad which we did not have last year. In settings, we found the router and clicked on it and immediately got on the web - also without entering a password. There was a padlock next to the router which should indicate it’s locked but we were never prompted to enter the password.

I’m wondering if something is wrong and if my neighbors could access our router. More important, I’m worried about being hacked. Any advice would be appreciated

My guess is if you are using the same iCloud account for the phone and the iPad that's why you didn't need the password.
Apple devices will share network passwords

with other devices nearby. Your iPhone likely handed off the password to your iPad.

Change the "likely" to definitely and there you have it.

you normally get prompted on one device if you wish to share with the new device.

If you really want to test it, go into wifi settings, click the wifi and then select "forget this network" Then try reconnecting. It should prompt for a password.
