When he's called on to block, he blocks well. He's also a good receiver for a fullback and can be used as an emergency running back. While he's not an important player, I think this kid is a keeper.
i think giants found a solid FB and gallman has been solid. i think the backfield is set for a while
I still think they could go after a mid round running back. I don't know that Gallman is worth FA dollars.
WAY bigger fish to FRY imo. i would NEVER spend a draft pick the year following the year we dreaft a kid of barkley caliber. When it doubt in this draft....take an edge or a OL
He is light years ahead of Shane Smith as a blocker plus he is a solid runner. It is nice having a FB that can actually contribute in the running game and as a receiver. Another solid under the radar acquisition for the team.

Not saying they should force a pick at RB or that they should draft a RB. Just that I'm not sure Gallman is a guy I'd keep going forward. He's fine as a backup to Barkley, but if they really like a RB in the mid rounds, I wouldn't not draft him because of Gallman.
If you're talking draft needs, OL and ER are for sure infinitely more important.

The Giants have a lot of mid round picks so they could afford to use one on a RB if they choose. I would focus on a Sproles/Cohen type of RB that can contribute at a returner and on special teams.

fuck all that we need a TON of depth on defense, prob 2-3 new OL starter + depth. need at least one solid edge, a QB, another LBer, 1 or 2 corners, a FS. with no second rounder. those mid rounders should be spent on filling depth

Is it the kid from Rutgers either on IR or practice squad that looked pretty good in preseason....he's a candidate to be on the 53 next year if he plays well.......
As Jay on the island said, he's another solid, under the radar addition to this team. DG has been collecting several of those guys since the season began, and it is beginning to show.
And just for the record, I like Wayne Train, a lot too. He has showed me a hell of a lot more than Perkins ever did, so I'd make sure Gallman is kept around as Barkley's primary back up with Penny as the FB and 3rd tailback. Penny has a lot of experience at tailback before he was converted to FB.
agree we cant be wasting any kind of pick on a RB in the next few drafts when we have huge needs at the S, CB, LB and OL and most likely QB. Penny will make a fine 3rd RB/FB it will also allow the team to carry an additional WR/TE or QB if the team decides to carry 3 in the future.
Pulled a major whiff on a running play early in the game but blocks well, can catch a pass and showed he could run hard today.
We are close to having a functional line which doesn't hinder us. Another upgrade (at least 1) at C or RT and we should be on our way. Once that happens, we have enough role players (Coleman, Penny, Simonson, Engram) that we can mix and match while still focusing on our big 2 of Barkely/Beckham.
Barkley is so good in the passing game that I would love to split him out wide more and have him work in air then to get banged up running between the tackles 20-25 times a game. If Penny could run like he did today, this opens up things tremendously. Imagine what it looks like to be a heavy line up of two tight ends (Ellison, Engram) with a fullback. While Engram is not a great inline blocker he is still better than a wide receiver. The defense counters with their run defense package and then we split both Barkely and Engram out wide but still have a running threat of Penny.
I think he’s a real nice find and a guy that can block, catch and run as well. I liked how they used him this week running out the clock in the 4th.
DG has been very good at finding gems that were waived. I suppose it also helped being able to grab these players immediately as we had first dibs for a while, but non-the-less he’s had done welll there. Free Agency was not so good, but I think the draft and his pick up of waived players has been really good.....Jamon Brown, C. Coleman and Elijah Penny specifically.
is a good back-up to have. If they were to go for another RB I'd be looking for a bruiser that LB'ers and DB'ers don't want to tackle in the 4th quarter after chasing Barkley all game, like Brandon Jacobs.

Not sure we'll ever see another Brandon Jacobs, but sign me up if there is one.
Carolina had Mike Tolbert at FB who was an important part Â
of their running game for 5 years. Penny would fit into what we want to do considering the fact that Saquon is the centerpiece player on offense and we are in a situation where Eli or a future young QB will take a secondary role
His acceleration is impressive. He is a good athlete.
The Giants have kept Perkins around for good reason. He is a talented back with good intangibles. He's also an excellent receiver and pass blocker. I believe that he will be Saquon's primary backup next year.

I disagree. Keep Gallman. Draft the OL and defensive backfield as priorities. Seriously look at QB options. Gallman isn't going to cost what it would take to replace him. Saquon is going to need breathers at points. I'm fine with Gallman in that role. The backfield, now with Penny at FB, isn't part of the 2019 discussion.

I remember the years of RB hell we were under.
I remember when you stopped trolling for a few weeks. That was nice. Why can't we have nice things like that?

Why would you be concerned about FA dollars for Gallman? He is under contract for 2 more years.

You should remember it. It was lasted 7-8 years and sucked.
I know your intension wasn’t to bring to light how important a good running game can be, but thanks anyway.
