To be kind. Someone will give the excuses, but every pass except for one he threw, out of 6 or 7, could or should have been intercepted. This kid is no future starting QB in this league.
with very questionable skills in mop up duty playing in a blowout game protected by a ham n egg offensive line against a team begging him to throw to backup receivers while loading the box.
The score was 40-0 when he was tasked with handing off and complete short passes. Well, he was awesome at handing off the ball and his one completion to the defender.
in their debut. He was obviously nervous and pumped full of adrenalin. Lets throw him out there few more times before throwing him to the curb. Plus, I doubt he expected to play and saw very few first team snaps during the week.
but did anyone else wish they could have at least seen Webb get this chance before the team giving up on him. Tanney was never going to do anything for us.
RE: RE: Watch Shurmur's post-game press conference. Â
He sneered when the questions steered towards Kyle. He said (I'm paraphrasing), "Do you like what you have been asking to see?".
As he rightfully should.
Lauletta is terrible.
And I think Pat knows that based on what he sees in practice. It is just that the Jackals have been hounding him over the past few weeks every p.c. about Kyle. Seeing Kyle miss his passes except to the opponent and not generate a single drive was confirmation of what he has been seeing in practice.
It was still a small sample size and Kyle should get more, but in his debut performance, it was underwhelming. It's not as if he was tasked with orchestrating a game winning drive. He was tasked with just playing QB with zero chance of losing the game.
You’d expect a QB on an NFL Depth chart to have a capable arm, and arm talent itself is often over rated versus all the other things QBs must do..... but you need to assume at least baseline ability—— I don’t see it
Odell was already out. They sat Saquon. Don't remember for sure, but I don't think Shep was playing.
Is any QB going to succeed with Gallman, Penny, Russell Sheperd, Bennie Fowler & Evan Engram as is weapons? I don't think so. Stupid move for the Giants to try and evaluate him with the starters out of the game.
He was just in there playing like the coach told him just don't lose. I missed his first series, with a pick, I guess, but after that it was run, run, third and long pass. And he didn't have Barkley. If he was playing to come back from behind, it would have been a whole different situation. I hope he gets a few more chances before we pass judgement

Is it too much to ask to get a few first downs up 40-0?
The Lauletta excuses are absurd. There’s no reason why he couldn’t move the ball vs a D that had mailed it in until he gave them life.
who wished we'd seen Webb in a real game. As terrible as he was in Game 1 of preseason, he looked competent in Game 2. Wonder what Eli thought of Webb v. Lauletta.
was terrible, but it was one game. His lack of arm strength is more concerning than the fact that the game was obviously too fast for him. That is true for most rookie QBs.
As far as Webb is concerned, I agree it would have been good to see him in a few games last year, but that wasn't going to happen after the way Eli was benched. Remember also that nobody picked up Webb after he was cut. The Giants couldn't even trade him for a seventh round pick. He was signed to the Jets' PS.

THe Jets never played Webb either after Darnaud injury.
He looked bad, but not half as bad as the 'geniuses' who drafted Â

Yeah I never really understood the reason for that move. Tanney just never made sense. Webb, while always a long shot to become an NFL starter, always seemed like he had more everything than Lauletta. From everything I read he seemed like a good teammate, would have been much more interested to see what he could do than Lauletta. KL could end up being good, I just have never been impressed by anything he does. Today certainly wasn’t a great showing, which means nothing, but he really did zero to give anyone hope he could be the guy someday.
....that could be predicted for 99% of 4th round draft picks coming in for mop up duty as their first go round as a pro. It was his pathetic level of arm talent that was shocking. Ducks is being kind. More like ducks after I hit them with my Remington. He has a wet noodle for an arm.
Was terrible and won’t be here next year believe me he’s got the worst arm I’ve ever seen .....I’ve seen HS players with better arms than him
He was drafted for show to shut all the people up over Taking Barkley over Darnold

Caught that as well, and I can’t really blame Shurmur for (politely) sticking it to these reporters a little bit.
At least Lauletta didn’t look over hyped like Webb did in preseason. He just looked a bit unprepared and his lack of arm strength was noticeable. At 40-16, fans were actually getting nervous and calling for Eli to return before the Michael Thomas’ int in the endzone.
Small sample size and his first live action, so perspective is needed but he was bad. It went beyond nerves too, it may be a tools issue. That said, once the team is mathematically eliminated, they need to put him out there with the ones in extended action. You need to see if there is anything there to work with and if he can be counted on in any capacity next season.
His arm strength was the least of his problems. The game was much too fast for him. He was never comfortable.
Quote:
Hopefully he gets more opportunities down the stretch.

isn't that the case for ALL rookie QBs?
Predictably, he was horrific.
As he rightfully should.
Lauletta is terrible.

I’d hope he’ll prove me wrong
It also looks and sounds like Shurmur may not be enamored with him.

yes the Jet's HC was on the hot seat because Jets were losing and HC felt his only way to win was to play their veteran backup
and ironically the offense was anemic with vet QB and many were calling for Webb to play
I agree, hope they don't fold up shop after 1 bad performance
this was funny...

Me too. His college game tape and Sr. Bowl seemed to show that this kid was pretty good. Don't forget, Dave Te had him as a 2nd rounder.
He needs a few more chances. Maybe pre-season.
