...back in September, around Labor Day. I distinctly remember him being on with Joe and Evan or someone else on WFAN and when questioned about this team's future, and their chances of contending THIS season in particular, he said something like this:
--This is a "get better" team, a team that's building to win and make a run for NEXT season...--
I'd definitely say that this is the case, as the product we've seen on the field is accurate with what Carl said. I love his analysis, and he always has excellent insight.
Just food for thought...
Let's see if they can continue this type of play against better caliber QB lay coming up in the next 3 weeks. These teams will be looking at playoff implications, so they are going to be tough games.
If they can go 2-1 and finish down the stretch at 7-9 that's a pretty great turn-around from last year.
have they beat a team with their starting QB playing?
They have won a couple games against a 3rd string QB,
Sanchez was on the street a couple weeks ago.
Give the Giants credit for not quitting this season.
I think the next couple of games will be a better test,
teams fighting for the playoffs, with their starting QB.
One is Andrew Luck, my comeback player of the year!
+1 I expressed that same sentiment on another thread and got the usual attacks. Anyway let's see this team play a complete game and win against any of these remaining opponents.
Winning is a good thing.
True... we just had a few too many holes to make that quick of a turn around. Even if we finished with 9 wins this year (by winning one of our earlier games), we all know this team is not at the same level as the teams that will end up in the two championship games. Different level completely.
This year is a stepping stone. I also think the locker room is much better right now than it has been in a few years. That matters..
Sanchez is a get better QB.

Of course, when you play bad teams wins are guaranteed. I guess that's why the packers fired their coach last week for losing to the cardinals. I guess that's why I have read that the broncos coach's job is in jeopardy after losing this week to the 49ers. And of course the steelers could not possibly lose to the raiders, right.
Are we a top team? No, but we are a team that is finding its identity.
The story of the recent wins is how well the O has done.
Somewhat disagree. We put up points on the defense yesterday, not counting the pick-six. Maybe Alex Smith would have generated 35 points, maybe not. We beat the DEFENSE, not the Redskins offense.
We have gone from:
- Shurmur stinks to, he’s not so bad
- Eli s Cooked to, be should he extended
Are the wins fool s good, I have no idea. But they have lost draft position and any chance to get Herbert if he comes out.
And for guys like me who believe they can t really move forward until the next era at quarterback begins, it makes the reaction to these wins mixed, although I have been rooting for them to win.
The Giants should've won that opening day home game vs. the Jags (Eli hits OBJ on a wide open slant they win), the 63-yard FG game and obviously the Eagles game. The others they were outplayed in but I didn't think they had any business losing any of those 3 games.
If that's the case, we're 8-5 (what we should be IMO) and one of the hottest teams in the league hitting the stretch. With Barkley we are the team nobody wants to see IMO. What might have been.....? I don't think we have a good enough D to win the Super Bowl but who knows - I didn't think we'd win either of the previous 2 either. The Giants are hot and healthy at the right time but blew too many early games.
Yes, but some of the teams we are competing with for a playoff spot have also and still will play the same QB deficient teams. It works both ways, the Giants aren't the only team playing an opponent on their worst days.
The Cowboys and Eagles just got to play the same team with Colt McCoy and then Sanchez. Do their wins not count?
Obviously the run game is better with an elite player there, but I'm not reading into upswing. People just want feel good, and the higher point totals help that.
The upswing would have been winning winning in Philly, not taking apart a team that knew its season was finished with their QB maybe losing his leg.
