or someone who will help correct issues (high bp, cholesterol, etc) without meds?
Was it worth it? Did you see results?
Funnily enough,

I'm meeting with a nutritionist this afternoon with regard to my IBD
Does that imply that all the others

Good luck, hope it helps you. If you don't mind, will you report back on if you think it will help?

Thanks. Sure.
I believe in this

My mother has been going to see Dr. Jay Benson as part of Dr. Furman's group in Flemington, NJ right on RT 31. Highly recommend this doctor if you're in NJ and looking.

I’m in the same boat, I have UC and met with a registered dietician a few months back. Get ready for Fodmap tracking, elimination diets (mostly high fodmap foods), gluten-free, lactose free, etc. A lot is working through it on your own, identifying and eliminating trigger foods. For me gluten is not an issue, some dairy products are. So you learn what to eat and what not to eat.

The meeting was valuable and worthwhile, but unfortunately with UC there is no clear-cut diet that works for everyone. Not sure which IBD you have but assume the food intake patterns would be similar. Good luck with it.

I'd recommend consulting with someone who is a registered dietitian. "Functional nutrition" is en vogue right now, but that's not to the exclusion of the legal designation of a "dietitian". Dietitians must adhere to stricter registration requirements, accreditation and professional standards. The mandatory education for registration as a dietitian is objectively more extensive and rigorous.
There's a lot of info on the internet regarding what foods

Problem is a lot of the info conflicts with itself.

This. Some say to avoid gluten; some say it doesn't matter. Some say to avoid lectins; some say it doesn't affect you. Some say to avoid dairy; some say it's good for you.

I mean shit, look at butter and eggs. Butter was seen as the bogeyman of cholesterol. Non-whites eggs were considered bad for you. Now, science and nutritionists have basically done a 180 on both.

More like a 90, especially with butter. Moderate intake is perfectly fine for most prople. But high butter intake is not healthy.
Nutritionists, dieticians etc
Jay in Toronto : 12/10/2018 1:33 pm : link
are catch-all terms. If by functional nutritionist you mean someone within the functional medicine approach, someone who I respect (trained dietitian but has moved way beyond that) feels that approach has great merit.
No, my nutritionist
Pete in MD : 12/10/2018 1:37 pm : link

I think that's the type of practitioner you want. I have a great deal more faith in the opinions of those who committed the time and resources necessary to develop a scientific background. That starts at a bachelor's education comprising at least introductory-level coursework in biology, organic chemistry, physics, etc. Understanding of the scientific method.

I know everyone has an opinion, but I want to know WHY people have their opinions, not that, "it just works" or "My clients have had great results."

From that baseline, if someone styles themselves as a holistic/functional/naturopathic practitioner, that's fine, but I feel much more comfortable when a rigorous education underlies it, instead of (for instance) a several-month online course.
It was pretty good

FODMAP wasn't mentioned once.

She gave me a plan (small meals, a snack in between meals). She looked at some of the restaurants I frequent during my lung break and told me what recommends I have.
