1) He was an Eagles Killer
2) You can't teach his height
Eli loved to lob balls to Plax, that only Plax could catch, and OBJ doesn't have the height for that.
Again I love OBJ, and think he will be a first ballet hall of famer when its all said and done. Give me Plax, simply because I can't stand the Eagles or their fans.
Plax is mythologized for a few reasons: his arrival coincided with Eli coming into his own as a championship quarterback; the game-winning fade in SB42; the "what could have been" in 2008 had he not shot himself, etc.
Beckham is one of the most gifted athletes on the face of the Earth (amazingly, we have two of them) and the best WR the Giants have ever had, bar none.
The numbers aren't even close and that only tells part of the story.

Wow, Odell will be the first Ballet dancer in the HOF. Learn something new everyday;-)
But Plax. His wingspan was amazing and he was just an incredible talent as well. He could always go up and grab those 50/50 balls. He drove the Eagles crazy too. The back shoulder throw between Eli and Plax was impossible to defend. Eli also had that chemistry with Hakeem.
Two things of note, Plax size means he is open even when covered and I think it helps with a short field like the red zone. Also, most of Plax career was when pass defense was still legal. The NFL today is a WR's dream.
It is not a perfect comparison but this should be enough info to show why Odell is hands down a better receiver than Plaxico ever was.
For his career, Plaxico averaged 50 catches per season; (Not including his last season, with the Jets where he was not a factor); 849 yards per season, 6.4 TD's per season.
Odell is averaging 97 catches per year (last year when he only played 4 games); 1369 yards and 11 TD's.
Odell is a Hall-of-famer and Plaxico was a nice receiver.
RE: Odell Beckham is the greatest receiver I've ever seen... Â
wasn't even the best WR on his team for most of his career.
He was run of of Pittsburgh because of his immaturity and while he certainly was awesome to have as a Giant, his career was ended by his immaturity and it wasn't just the gunshot. He basically was allowed to miss meetings and practice for a season without punishment.
Guy was never a good teammate and single-handedly derailed a season.
When he's gone, you will all be saying, "he's a good receiver, but he ain't no Odell."
I do not understand why Odell gets so much hate on this board. He has never been arrested. His teammates love him. The league respects him. He is wildly productive. I've been watching the Giants since 1973 and he is by far the best receiver they have ever had and amongst the top five I've ever seen.
is much. Not debatable. Only OBJ haters would pick Plax who was a moron.
Give me a break. I don’t hate Odell. He’s a better team mate and talent. Some just prefer what the big number 1 wide receiver like Plax can bring to the table.
However, I've seen Plax step up his A game in a pressure situation. We haven't seen Odell do that. In fact in his one opportunity he came up small.
I love people who want to kill Odell for that one playoff game (not saying you are, but you did mention it)...You can't judge a player based on one game. Did we judge Eli after his first playoff game against Carolina when the Giants got shut out and he threw 3 interceptions? Jerry Rice's first 3 career playoff games he had less than 5 catches and 50 yards in each. Odell had one bad game that day. Until I see it as a pattern, I'm not going crazy over one game.
... it’s Beckham by a laughably wide margin, despite a very serious injury in year 4. Over the course of their full careers, it’s likely to be Beckham again, but that’s subject to obvious caveats. At their best? Also Beckham, aside from a few memorable games in which Burress was unstoppable.
Firstly, a tremendously overrated corner who got 5 minutes of fame by goading an all pro level player into his worst moment as a pro. And it's the only headline he's made in the nfl since. But you can take any player and define them by their worst moment.
Odell is a better player, team mate and person
he's better and I'd rather have him.

Plax is far and away the better WR, without any question. The talent level around Plax and the quality of QB play was much better when Plax was here.

Why is it crazy to pick Plax when you your self are picking him??? :-O
Can't some give that a rest already.

It feels as though anyone who says Plax has an axe to grind with OBJ.

He's in a different league than Plax. Apples and oranges too, BTW, completely different type of receiver.
Comparisons to Cruz would be apples to apples, and again, not in the same league.
Nobody is.
And Beckham may be a fuckup, but he's not a 'shoot himself in the leg and go to jail and destroy a season' fuckup.
Beckham drives me nuts but I'd rather him in Giant blue than any other uniform.

The Steelers let him walk away after his rookie contract.
He put a cap in his own ass when he was with the Giants.

I know you're complimentary of him, but seriously, in what universe is Beckham a fuckup?

It truly is moronic to say Plax was the better player.
I like functional vehicles, but my Mazda isn't a better performing car than a Maserati. And if I said so, it would be moronic.
What a shame we couldn't see OBJ on one of those teams, they'd be unstoppable.

Wow imagine Odell on the 2008 Giants

This is fair. We all have different preferences in everything. No one ever argues what an extraordinary talent Odell is. Nor can they argue it.
If he was strapping, he probably would have a gucci holster
And lets not even get into dancing skills.
And there is still no comparison. OBJ by a mile.

:-)
I love Plax, but he's not in Odell's class.
In that same year Plaxico stepped up, he was also held to 1 catch for 5 yards in the playoffs against Dallas and 4 catches for 38 yards against tampa.
It does happen.
Sums it up for me.
Plax was a talent, but just look at his yearly numbers. When was he great? 2007 when he was 30? Incredibly overrated.
As for the question - unquestionably OBJ.
Plax vs. Nicks
All 3 of them were above average players with big play ability and contributed to Super Bowls. But none of them are on Odell's level.
