NFT: My Mini dachshund- health question

GMAN4LIFE : 12/10/2018 11:43 am
My little guy is 11 years old. He has had a skin issue ever since we moved to the burbs. Doctors have no clue what it is but we have dealt with it with antibios and changing his diet. It flares up every 6 months.

anyways yesterday i noticed his eye getting white on one side. In the way that blind peoples eye begins to occur. It saddens me as i dont have a chance to take him to the vet until friday.

Obviously, no one here is a vet or anything. i could be just putting this here to vent alittle but lets say he is blind from one eye, have your dogs gone through this and lived longer?

I had a dachsund that lived to 15

just put him down last summer

i did have a dog who went blind a few years earlier. she was fine in the house because she knew where everything. Dachsunds have a tremendous sense of smell. They can smell the furniture, they can smell the front door etc . . . so i think your guy should be fine . . i also would not jump to conclusions about his going blind
My mom had one...

..that lived to be about 14-15 and had both the issues you mention. If I recall the skin issues (she got it bad un her stomach an elbows/knees or the dog equivalent) were allergy related and she had her on a minimally processed food along with fish oil and canned pumpkin as a supplement.

Eyes were essentially cataracts and I believe they just let them go given her age - by the end she was nearly blind.
