In terms of actual realistic football simulation? Last time I gave it a chance was 2012 or 2013 and it was dreadful

it could be a good tool if you wanted to learn everybody's names and position. I have often taken teams in other conferences and have played franchise and learn more about the teams players then many so called fans of the team.
It looks like he was playing Madden
