Just watched the first episode last night. It was really good. Amazing how these original streaming shows continue to offer great content and production.
There are a couple sub plots that don't seem to fit in with anything, unless those will be expanded on in the next season. But the main plot line is quite good.
Jack Ryan is really good. I don't know where this was actually filmed, but it takes place in D.C., France, Turkey and Syria. The locales look absolutely authentic. The story is engaging. Through flashbacks they also give quite a bit of backstory to the main antagonist.
Tom Clancy purists have complained that they've changed the backgrounds of some of the characters particularly James Greer and Kathy Ryan to be. The good guys in Clancy novels are all "Mom and apple pie". Here they are a little more human.
I was really excited to see the show. Amazon has so few hits. I was very disappointed. Mainly with the lead played by John Krasinski. His Jack Ryan could not be more milquetoast. Since this role has now been played by 3 other actors it kind of scary to say that Ben Affleck actual plays a better Ryan...yeash.
Also did not find the story line compelling at all. Typical TV drama-ripped from the headlines stuff. Got through ep 5 and stopped. Couldn't watch anymore. Also found this version of Greer quite week.
as a man in physical pain struggling to escape desert with no water, crawling for help. Haha.
To each their own, but I couldn’t disagree more. Krasinskis Ryan was refreshing, and straight to the point. The cinematography was stellar. The plot was pretty generic but I’m fine with that for a spy thriller.
I also liked seeing Bunk be Bunk, haha.
I'd at least like an Americans follow up episode. Maybe set after the fall of the USSR.
