I wasn't sure after the ribs last week he'd be able to play Sunday, as he looked like he was in a lot of pain but not only did he play this week, he played well and threw his body around.
Like everyone here I loved the downfield block on Norman. Aside from the TDs the Giants scored it might've been my favorite play of the day. The hustle downfield and then throwing the block on Norman was a thing of beauty.
I also like the fact some players were hugging the coach and the coach seemed to be enjoying it. Say what you want, this team looks to want to play for the coach. It's a fine line.....but if he harnesses the player's interest/respect it goes a long way.
It's something that was missing big time last year.
He is finally living up to his college scouting report saying he was an explosive blocker. You gotta be impressed with him trapping between the tackles.
This stuff is why Shurmur's growing on me. This little stretch may be as crisp as I've ever seen an Eli Manning offense play.

This is actually a good point. Eli hasn't really had that TERRIBLE performance that tends to fall right after a big win. And after beating the Bears, in the past, it would have been the perfect follow up game where Eli would throw 6 int's and look like he's never played the position. Maybe Shurmur is finally getting the house in order and his system is taking hold.
On both of Barkley's big runs, Shep gives 100% effort on everything, I love it.
On that one block downfield on Barkley's second long run, Shepard pumped his fists a bunch of time. I started yelling at the TV, "F*ck yeah!"
Yup, and he laid out Josh Norman, which just makes it that much better. A team might be what it's record is but you gotta love th fight these guys have been showing. It's really encouraging and helping me warm to Shurmur despite some doubts.
yesterday. He's a great kid. I also really like how he and many of the other players are reacting to Coach Shurmur. Giving the coach hugs and laughing it up with him. I like that they all are playing hard for him despite the way the season has played out.
Shurmur has mismanaged some of the games and maybe didn't make the best play calls in the world, but there is something we should all keep in mind. A beloved coach of the Giants had a 3–12–1 record in his first year as head coach of the team, and he eventually took the team to two Superbowls. Now will Shurmur become our next Bill Parcells, who knows. Maybe, if we're lucky. At this moment, in his first year as our head coach, he's heading in the right direction.
Damn. I just watched the sights and sounds video. Â
The Giants are having fun and playing for each other. The Shepard hit on Norman brought back memories of Jacobs trucking Laron Landry.
And let's not forget how awesome it was that the Skins drafted Landry over Adrian Peterson. The first thing I do every morning when I wake up is say how grateful I am the Skins drafted Laron Landry.
gave a game ball to Shep. for his blocking. The team is growing the effort is consistent the execution has improved and players are developing. The culture is changing for the better, and that was the key objective for this year. There’s plenty of holes to fill. But building a core and a positive culture is step 1. As DG fills the holes the team will continue to get better and better.
Last year at this time the organization was in disarray. What a difference a year has made.
that apparently Tyke Tolbert, the WR coach, cuts up highlights of all the WRs good blocks for their Monday film review and shows them repeatedly. It’s become a big thing for the WR group.
I don’t know who it was on the radio talking about it, but they said Tolbert was known for that in Denver too.
I think it obviously helps to have a guy like Saquon to block for...as in, if they hold their block a few seconds longer or if they hustle downfield, they could be springing him to take one all the way.
Scott Simonson TE had 2 great blocks on that run. Papa highlights in the link below Scott Simonson - ( New Window )
Good stuff, thanks. The difference in the blocking from early in the season until now is pretty staggering. Hats off to the staff for pulling the trigger on personnel and scheme changes. Simonson has been a pleasant surprise and is carving out a role.
That was a truly pleasant, complete 3 hours of football-watching. Haven't felt that for a long time.
And the effort, so much different than one year ago.
Same here.

Kid's a keeper and I'd take 53 just like him.

Baby steps.
said same thing after game yesterday...

great stuff - the 2-TE set worked pretty well.
