I was looking through the QB Next Gen stat and saw AGG% and thought what is this metric? Apparently it is Aggressiveness and is defined as:
Aggressiveness tracks the amount of passing attempts a quarterback makes that are into tight coverage, where there is a defender within 1 yard or less of the receiver at the time of completion or incompletion. AGG is shown as a % of attempts into tight windows over all passing attempts.
Eli is fourth in the league in this behind Winston, Rosen, and Fitzpatrick. Last year he was 11th; 2016 19th.
Guys like Brady, Brees, and Rodgers are consistently in the lower half of this metric. One thing to note: Aggressiveness doesn't necessarily correlate to intereceptions; there are guys in the bottom half of the league in AGG% that have more INTs than Eli
I thought maybe there is a correlation to Time to Throw (TT) but Brees and Brady are ahead of Eli in getting rid of the ball. I feel like there is SOME correlation to TT as Eli is 9th quickest in getting rid of the ball yet still top 3 in sacks taken.
I don't think this is by offense design as Keenum last year was bottom third in TT and AGG%. Maybe the pitfalls of a new offense being installed? Worthless stat?

They should show the completion percentage on aggressive throws but I don't think they do.
All in all, seems like a pretty meaningless stat.
It's an interesting stat, but on its own it doesn't tell us much.
A good question for discussion though - what are the reasons why Eli has such a high aggressiveness %?
