Question for Sy and others - McIntosh

DavidinBMNY : 12/10/2018 7:16 pm
How is the new DL playing? For someone who missed the off-season he seems to be taking some productive snaps and starting to make a few plays.

What is your take?

Whole bunch of people up front making plays. Hill. Wynn prior to concussion. Others. Edwards.
Our DL is a pretty good unit

They have a number of good players. I'm hoping Tomlinson figures out the NT spot. He's a very good player but could be out of position at NT. Seems he's getting better there but has a way to go.

Give him some time. IMO it is the hardest position on defense to play... hence why there are only like 5 good ones in the NFL

Someone here expounded in detail last week about how it's not the usual NT function in this D.
Not done watching the all-22 here...

but the Giants went back to the traditional 3-4 look early this week.

Interestingly the 2 DL look last week turned out to be more of the exception than the rule.

I really like how much Bettcher can change things. Must be the most multiple defense I've seen, maybe ever.
Snap counts are indeed creeping up for RJ...

by count - little change (12, 16, 17) and by percent (18.5%, 19.3%, 27.4%).

I'll be charting out some things on defense once the all-22 is available and will share any interesting observations later tonight or tomorrow.

RJ is one of the guys I'll be watching closely.

Having said that, Sy (or one of the other true football gurus on the board) is a much better judge of what he sees than I'll ever hope to be. I'm just a passionate fan still learning the game.
I thought he was a terrific

gamble coming out. No way they get him rd 5 without the health issue. He seemed quicker and stronger this week, he disengaged well with his hands and pursues. As he develops he could seriously help the pass rush from the DE position.

Is not a NT build, I was envisioning an "undersized" 5 technique with quickness and pass rush, like Justin Smith.
