Let's discuss the job the coaches are doing.
Just put the list down, then +, -, or n/a next to their name. You can add a narration after that.
HC - Shurmur: + some mistakes, team improving playing competitive football after terrible start.
OC - Shula: n/a - can't decide. I suspect he's part of the reason for the slow/bad offensive start.
DC - Bettcher: n/a - can't decide. Does some very creative things with little talent on his side of the ball, but the defense is still one of the worst in the league.
RB - Johnson: + Barkley clearly helps, and Gallman has done well.
WR - Tolbert: n/a. Some no-names looking good, stars looking good but not great, need time to evaluate.
TE - Wells: +. Like what I see from Simonson, Engram a work in progress. Ellison is a player.
OL - Hunter: ++ the key isn't what the OL did at the beginning, but how they've pieced together and the rate of improvement. Sign of a good coach. Almost can't believe I'm writing this.
DL - Emanuel: n/a. Some good signs from Hill but overall, the DL has been mostly down and not sure if the arrow is definitively pointing up.
LB - McGovern: - granted the talent level might seem low, but pass rush falls on the LBers in a 3-4 and coverage hasn't been stellar. Recent signs of improvement are tough to evaluate because we aren't playing good offenses.
DB - Anarumo: + lots of improvement from guys in the secondary.
ST - McGaughey: +++ maybe the best ST in the league. Good job coach.
We can't. Just some discussion about our thoughts. We talk about a lot of things that we don't really know about. If you don't have any idea, that's what the n/a is for.
Figured it would be something new to discuss.
Arrow is pointing up however
Beckham is Beckham, Shepard makes plays when he gets the ball and both are more than willing blockers.
The other guys - R. Sheppard, Coleman, and even Fowler have contributed when called upon. I think the sign of good coaching is coaching up the lesser-status players, which I think has happened with these three.
Still a work in progress but I like the progress being made there.
Lack of talent. If we replayed the first 8 games with the current OL, do we still go 1-7?
Because a mark of a good coach should be how their players improve given time.
If Bill Belichick is such a good coach why did his NE team start out worse his first year there than we did?
You look for improvements, and hope they are rapid.

Lack of talent. If we replayed the first 8 games with the current OL, do we still go 1-7?
Why wasn't the OL adequately prepared entering the season? Why did it take 8 games (and a significant weakening of the schedule) for the OL to be passable?
Waiting for the season to effectively be over before playing something resembling professional football isn't the mark of a job well done by the coaching staff.
2) Jamon Brown. While not a pro bowl/all pro level guy, he has been an immediate upgrade over Omameh, which leads me to point #3.
3) Omameh was terrible and simply a miscalculation by Gettleman. That falls on Gettleman in this case, not the coaches.
4) Flowers was not only terrible but clearly a cancer. While still probably a cut below solid starter level, Wheeler, even at that has been an upgrade. Unlike Flowers he is not a cancer, but a guy who competes and has actually gotten better and can probably still serve in the important role as backup/swing tackle after RT is hopefully upgraded in the offseason.
5) Pulley is probably slightly better than Halapio, and definitely better than Grecco.
Say what you want about the competition but go look at the rushing defense ranks we've gone up against as Barkley has really taken off on the ground. Some pretty solid defenses that backup QBs have nothing to do with.
