In reality that's a euphemism for shitty OL play that results in stalled drives and fewer plays. Not calling enough running plays with a bad OL didn't sink that team, investing 30m in Kirk Cousins with a bad OL sunk that team.
or second for that matter. The question is, is he happy with him now, and does he have the power to relieve him if he's not? Isn't Shula from Carolina?

Shula was in Carolina, but he and Shurmur both have connections to Ron Rivera

Yet, this was the OL that was supposedly so great after they rebuilt it in one year. Truth is it wasn't very good then or now.
Does anyone really think the Giants would replace any coach Â
Defilippo, with the way offenses are is trending in the league , was trying to imprint his stamp on the vikes passing game. He clashed with Zimmer who wanted to run the ball more. Today in the nfl you don’t get a job by showing how good your run game is. You get a job by passing the ball downfield. I beleive this won’t effect his coaching chances and he’s still a very good offensive mind.
RE: Does anyone really think the Giants would replace any coach Â
and OL in general is finally starting to come together, and we want to bring this guy in? No thanks...maybe as an offensive assistant or something but not as a play caller or OC
RE: Does anyone really think the Giants would replace any coach Â
I didn't read it that way, Sean. He's saying that the Vikings almost lost Stefanski, and now they have the opportunity to try him out with DeFillippo out.
are ruthless and don’t hold back. If you can get the job done, then you don’t belong here. Next.. This is the way it should be, the nfl is full of terrible coaches.

and yet we refuse to fire Quinn for years... and keep Hal Hunter on staff this year.

That's one way of looking at it. Another is the team was under performing expectations and the coach/GM are worried about their own necks and threw their first year OC under the bus. And promoted a guy who a year ago they stiffed for this job and blocked from other jobs.
Giants are averaging over 30 ppg over their past 4 Â

I don't think the NFL is full of terrible coaches. I think fans put too much emphasis on coaching and not enough on talent. Talent wins in the NFL. Period. Yes, some coaches are better than others at getting the best out of their players. Some of that is skill and some is just luck. At the end of the day, the healthiest teams with the most talent are going to be the most successful.
Adam Thielen, Stefon Diggs and Kyle Rudolph. You bring in a QB coach for OC. And you're mad that the offense is passing too much? Kinda strange to me.
This. It's baffling how some teams operate. If you want to be the run oriented defensive minded team then commit to that. Don't spend huge at QB, build your team to throw and then get angry when they aren't running the ball. You have a shaky OL and an injury prone lead back, of course they're passing. Running ineffectively is not going to increase your chances of winning.

Tell that to Bellicheck. But... you did say "period" after offering your opinion... so it must be true.

Since the OL is playing much better maybe the problem wasn't Hal Hunter.
Sure blame the OC but how much of this is the fault of Cousins? Guy was over rated to begin with and now way over paid. Hear he is not well liked either.

This. Even here he was pumped as some top tier QB. He goes to a better team and he's looked average. That contract was a huge mistake. Easier to blame to OC. Stat compilers abound in the NFL. He's one of them. Not horrible but 25 million a year. Guaranteed. Worst contract In the NFL other than Gruden's.
At least that disaster isn't a measured as part of the cap. Vikes are stuck w Captain Average. A new OC isn't fixing that.

I havent heard about the unliked part. Perhaps teammates are frustrated with his lack of production... but seems like an affable guy.

They were a good OL last year though.
No they weren't. That was a weird narrative that took hold which people were using as an example for how quickly our unit could turn around. They were below average by every objective measure. They just improved from league worst to below average through patchwork and expected it to hold into the next season.
RE: RE: It's funny that people are loving Shula now Â
But I’m fine, if you want to upgrade the position, but to then dump a monster deal on cousins? We’re you really that desperate? You had a pretty good qb in your clutches with keenum, could have signed him for a lot less and spent the saved money elsewhere. If it’s aaron Rodgers in his prime or a can’t miss stud in the draft ok fine bye bye keenum, but to take the route they took with cousins just seemed unnecessary to me. Worse it seemed and still seems like a lateral move.
Who was the offensive mastermind for the Eagles SB run.
Wentz is coming back from a serious knee injury which usually takes a full year before the player returns to form. This could be the reason for the decline in performance by the offense but Reich is clearly missed as well. The Colts should buy McDaniels something nice for Christmas for bailing on them because they hit a homerun with Reich.
Who was the offensive mastermind for the Eagles SB run.
Actually it was the Falcons safety who dropped an easy pick 6 at the end of the first half in the Divisional Round who was the mastermind behind the Eagles run. Eagles then go on to kick a huge FG at end of half and Falcons predictably choke with sad, incompetent playcalling on final drive and Jones falling down on final play.
they were never going to win a SB with Keenum, so I understood the move.
Up until two weeks ago Cousins was having a very good season. Its not his fault their FG kicking cost them the game in GB, their defense couldnt stop a nosebleed in LA, or even against Buffalo.
But I dont know what the fuck happened in NE and at Seattle - he's been hot garbage last two weeks. Their schedule does set up favorably to win their final 3 games though and go to Dallas or Chicago in round 1, both winnable games. Yes Miami is 7-6... but they are 1-5 on the road, and if Minny can't win this game and fairly easily - they do suck.
If I remember right DeFilippo was at least considered for some HC jobs if not interviewed for some.
To go from that to being fired as an OC in 13 weeks is a huge fall.
There had to be a personality thing with Zimmer. They seem diametrically different. Old school v. Hot Shot
Shula was in Carolina, but he and Shurmur both have connections to Ron Rivera

Not too mention right as the offense is starting to gel. No chance.
Wasn’t Hugnagel fired for Gilbride prior to week 17. Obviously different bc change was in house.
