Another nice write up

Sy.
Have to agree with you about Brown. He is better than what was there before and that is making a big difference in results. Seems like he starts slowly each game and still pukes a few plays per week. He is just making far less mistakes then his predecessors and that small difference is enough for Eli and the running game.
We do need to temper expectations, but it will be an interesting final 3 weeks.

Thanks

RJ McIntosh he made a couple of nice plays showing great
range seems DG put together a pretty solid draft hopefully
he follows it up with another .
Jamon Brown is a bit up and down but he is only 25 he could
be another piece to the puzzle .I liked the Ogletree move
we had nothing at LB and he is paying off so far .
Guys like Webb Chandler and Haley can make this a pretty solid secondary and adding a top level Edge rusher and
another inside LB would go a long ways to improving this group . Outside of a LT and a Center in this draft I
Think Josh Allen would be a great choice at #1 .
When everyone was clamouring for the team to tank I wanted a win It's a shame we let the Philly game get away from us .
Interesting comment...

-Spencer Pulley, we know by now, is the weak link to this OL.

I wouldn't have agreed with this comment, as I thought most Giants fans have the weak link as a tie between Pulley/Wheeler.

Is the gap really that tremendous between the two of them to make this an obvious conclusion?

Wheeler struggles but competes pretty hard.

Pulley needs a lot of help. He's constantly on his back or washed out of a play.
This play stood out to me as well...

He made a tackle in space in the 1st quarter where he pursued Chris Thompson across the tackle box and met him at the turn-up point for the takedown.

I really didn't know anything about RJ prior to his return to the Giants, so I don't know if he was always this lean. I'm thinking maybe he's lost a lot of weight? Is that true? He's built like a lean DT for sure. Very athletic.

He weighed in at 286 at the combine, which yes is extremely lean for a DT. I think part of that was due to his medical condition.
'' Combine solid with a star ''

is a good one.

Considering how many new faces there are in a new scheme in the back end, is it fair to say there have been far fewer blown coverages/communication errors in Bettcher's defense? Certainly seems that way on gameday and reading Sy's reviews.

Combined with the fact that their pass rush has almost no talent, it's why I think Bettcher's done a commendable job. He's a coordinator that loves to rush the passer and they gave him no tools to do this with. They were scraping the barrel for Connor Barwin's corpse.

Riley does make a lot of bone headed plays, not exactly Palamalou but overall I can't complain because he does the #1 job for a FS, not give up the long pass.
Sign me up for star pass rusher

I’ll take it.
the stat that really surprised me when I heard it was Peterson 16 yds
jeffusedtobeonwebtv : 12/11/2018 7:39 pm : link
I remembered he ran for 12 yards on his second carry for a first down. I had trouble believing he only had 16 yards total.

Even before the Giants had control of the game and maybe you thought you had to pass to have any chance of catching up, why would you trust Mark Sanchez over Adrian Peterson?
Pre draft reports have 5 centers

Thanks for all you do in these game threads. I learn a ton from you in these quick reviews. Anyway I wanted to ask you what EDGE rusher do you like in the draft? Im partial to Josh Allen, the Kentucky rusher, who’s a local kid from Montclair. Your input would be greatly appreciated.
Corey Coleman was also key contributor
ArlingtonMike : 12/11/2018 9:21 pm : link
With two deep balls resulting in a catch and a PI. Came down pretty hard on the first one, showing toughness in returning to the game and contributing. Another guy who seems to be turning things around after a glacial start to his career. Engram seems to be on the verge as well.

This team is starting to develop an identity and players are buying in. Exciting time to be a Giants fan. It’s been a while since I said THAT.

As of now it's Bosa and Ferrell...then everyone else. Allen is up there, I just think he is a kid that will need more time than some of the others so he can put some power in his game. He won't be a big factor right away like those other 2 can be.

Remember that losing culture you wanted to avoid? Well, winning meaningless games over legitimately bad QBs may cost us the EDGE star you think this team so badly needs. Which would you prefer: losses and Bosa or wins over Mullens, Fitz, Daniel, and Sanchez and a no name? Give me Bosa (really, give me a QB, which we still need).

So you are saying that picking high in the first round guarantees future success?

You know it doesn't work that way. I can guarantee you...there will be a big time player available when NYG is on the clock. Whether it is #4 overall or #13 overall

Or #32 overall! The Giants still have a shot at the playoffs and once they're in it anything can happen.

LOL, we know once Eli gets into the playoffs, it's all or nothing. If the team wins the first playoff game, they win them all and end up with the Lombardi Trophy.
Giants are 5-8, last place in the NFCE and only 3 NFC teams

Thanks Jimmy...

I just want to see them continue to improve. It allows DG and PS to evaluate what they truly have and therefore truly need. BW Webb certainly allows them to place CB lower on the list, while Riley shows they need a FS. Playing Michael Thomas will let them see if they need to pay Collins. I think Ellison, Simonsen and Engram have played well enough to put TE on the back burner. Jamon Brown is playing just well enough for them to see what Pulley and Wheeler are doing.
Putting up 23 on the Bears defense when the Rams could only get 6 means something. Getting McIntosh into games gets his feet wet and lets them see if they need more DL help (maybe a NT?) or can live with what they have.

Agreed. I have faith in the D going forward. They really have no business even being mediocre right now although Vernon being back is huge. Before Vernon this was a bad bad unit but it never really looked that way most weeks. Give the DC some weapons for next year and we should be pleased.
I didn't watch the o-line play very close
Beer Man : 12/12/2018 1:51 pm : link
But a question I have. Is Brown all that bad, or is being placed between a bad C and bad RT making it very difficult on him?

I think there is some truth to this in that an offensive line can become better than the sum of its parts. I don't think Brown is a world beater, but put a solid C on one side of him and a solid RT on the other, and I think his play will improve pretty significantly.

I know, easier said than done. But I am happy that this draft is deep at C so at least we have a good shot at an upgrade there. RT may be a little more challenging.

He is not that bad, but he is not the savior we all think. He is not Ron Stone or Rich Seubert. But he is significantly better than Jerry and Omameh. He misses a few blocks per game and sometimes allows pressure up the middle. But instead of constant pressure, he makes plays most of the time.

What people have said is that an average Oline would give Eli time to make plays. An average Oline opens holes for Saquon Barkley. Brown makes far less bad plays than his predecessors, so the offense makes more positive plays and significantly less negative plays. Much easier to convert 3rd and 4 than 3rd and 12 or 15.
