Mike asked Pat if the oline was good enough for next season or did they need to add a big player. He said the he and Gettleman both believe that you should do something on both the offensive and defensive line every offseason. It's not a surprise but nice to hear it confirmed. I like the Phil Simms line about football, your big people beating up their big people while your little guys run around and make plays.
My guess is D day 1 and day 2

Plus, I think we are going to see a big free agent OL signing, either at Center or more likely at RT.

Probably an Edge and a LB in rounds 1 and 2

I don't think the Giants will be big players in free agency this year other than trying to resign their own guys that they want to keep.

The prices will be outrageous for what few A-list free agents are available and I don't see the Giants winning any bidding wars like they did with Solder last year (there are only so many guys you can make the highest paid player at their position). I see the Giants more as bargain hunters in free agency with the focus on how best to utilize the ten or eleven draft picks they have.
Won’t prices always be outrageous?

I can absolutely see them spending. Eli comes off the books after next year and Vernon can be cut this year year with $8m cap hit or 2020 at a $4m cap hit. They may not pay Collins either so what will we be spending it on with the current roster? Shepard?

Assuming the above happens which is very realistic we can then move forward with a QB on a rookie salary or a stopgap player who won’t break the bank. We will have a ton of cap flexibility.
I'm just happy that they are focused on the lines

Build it then keep them strong. If the oline is good then all of your skill position players are better. Same thing on defense, be stout up front and pressure the QB and the players in coverage have a much easier job.
Rd 1 & 2

Will be OL & DL. Not necessarily in that order but... we need both. By DL I mean EDGE too.
Cap is going up 10 million next year

And Eli comes off the books after next season. Who cares what we pay a fee agent

The Olivier Vernon experience hasn't taught you anything?
What about signing Daryl Williams ROT from Carolina?

Gettleman draft pick and very solid OT.

QB has to be on the agenda as well.

They can't keep postponing looking for Eli's replacement.

There will be plenty of teams with plenty more cap room than the Giants. You have to pick and choose your spots and last year the Giants made Solder the highest paid OL in the league and OBJ the highest paid WR. I don't think it's prudent to now make Mike Morse the highest paid OC in the NFL (and that's assuming he hits the open market).

The situation isn't as desperate as it was last year (and paying plus players as if they are All Pro players is an act of desperation that can only be repeated so many times before the house of cards comes crumbling down). I expect the Giants to be more judicious in free agency this year. Obviously there will be additions and subtractions, but I don't see them making anybody the highest paid player at their position.

As for Collins, I expect them to franchise tag him at a cost of roughly $12M rather than give him a long term deal or let him go for free, but it's really anybody's guess. They didn't turn down a 3rd round pick in November so they could let him walk out the door in March.
