Barkley is PFFs highest rated back

Youtoo : 12/11/2018 6:22 pm
His terrible blocking this year is probably the only thing keeping him below 90. I think his blocking has improved some but he gave up 4-5 sacks earlier this year.

About how PFF sucks because it had Chubb rated higher?
Barkley, McCaffery, gurley, elliot

Who you keeping off the nfc pro bowl? How good are the nfc running backs this year.... you’re talking about four legit mvp candidates. Crazy. And there are more very good or great nfc backs after those four. Kamara, Cohen, Jordan so many more. RB rich league.
RB rich era

IMO, Saquon is the best RB in the league. Already.

I don't think Zeke or McCaffery is in his league, no offense to either guy. They're both studs.

Gurley is the only one I'd put in the conversation, but Barkley is a much bigger receiving threat than Gurley.

I think Barkley, Gurley, and Elliott are the 3 "elite" workhorse RB's right now.

In the tier right underneath them, I'd have CMC, Kamara, and Melvin Gordon. James Conner, Lindsay and Chubb are all right there, too.

David Johnson still has to re-establish himself. Most of this year is no fault of his own - but he's just struggling mightily.

Obviously Bell would likely be in that top tier with the other 3 guys if he wasn't sitting out this year.

Matt Brieda deserves some love - he's become a really good player. I like Kerryon Johnson a lot as well.

Zeke & McCaffrey aren't in his league. He's a much better receiver then Zeke. He's a better runner then McCaffrey.

I'd say it's Saquon & Gurley as the two best RBs in the NFL. Gurley has a better OL and a better offensive scheme.

Saquon is much further along then Gurley was at the same age. Gurley had 1294 scrimmage yards and 10 total TDs as a rookie. He had 1212 scrimmage yards and 6 total TDs at 22 years old.

Saquon doesn't turn 22 until February. In 13 games he has 1753 yards from scrimmage and 13 total TDs behind an OL that was terrible for over half the year. Averaging 5.4 YPC and 6.1 yards per touch. He's only fucking 21 years old. That's absurd.
I was definitely wrong!
Big Rick in FL : 12/11/2018 10:02 pm : link
I wanted us to draft a QB even though I knew Barkley was the best player in the Draft. I just put too much stock in positional value. Saquon has succeeded all of my expectations of him. He's just been unreal and you can see the NFL game is slowing down for him. His numbers these last 4-5 weeks have been absurd.

The last 4 weeks he's averaging 159.25 yards from scrimmage and has 6 total TDs.

He's eventually going to break the single season record for yards from scrimmage. I'd be willing to bet he does it before he turns 25 years old.
I don't think it's a matter of Gurley's development
Ten Ton Hammer : 12/11/2018 10:09 pm : link
that he doesn't have the same production as Barkley as a rookie. He played on talentless offense with nobody to get the ball to him and nobody to draw defensive attention.

The Giants run the offense through Barkley a lot. Barkley has more targets right now than Gurley has ever had in any year of his career.

2017 was the first time Gurley really had a chance to play on a talented offense and he was incredible. I think he could have been doing this all along if he wasn't wasted playing for Jeff Fisher and behind Nick Foles.
Zeke’s not in Barkley’s class
BSIMatt : 12/11/2018 10:15 pm : link
Don’t even look at the stats, just watch them both play. Barkley routinely makes plays Elliot simply is incapable of making. Zekes a good a very good nfl back playing with a great line. Gurley is closer to Barkley than Elliot, I still think SB can do what Gurley does and then some. Just as big and strong, with a lil better speed and much better stop/start cod.

Um, no. Barkley is at worst the #2 RB in the league no matter what criteria you use. Most would rank him #1, but others would still go with Elliot cause he is slightly ahead in total years. Gurley dropped based on last week.

Football Outsiders is a joke cause they rely on fuzzy math formulas called DVOA(Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) and VOA(Value Over Average). To simplify it. They take the stats from a play like what down it was and what the back ran for. Then they take the defense rating of the other team based upon their own DVOA. Then they take what an average back ran for against that same defense on a similar play. They they come up with a stat. It's fuzzy math at its worst. They they throw some other mathematical nonsense onto it. They kill Barkley with DVOA and VOA which is why he is 8th. They have Phil Lindsay ranked as the #2 RB which no one in their right mind has. They also badly overrate Gurley even with his dud last week. They have Barkley ranked behind fellow rookie Kerryon Johnson who has rushed for only 644 yards. Does anyone on the planet think Kerryon Johnson is having a better year than Barkley? It's a joke.

PFF is also very subjective. But they look at every play and determine what is going on and assign a grade. It relies less on made up fuzzy math formulas. No one thinks Nick Chubb is the #2 ranked back in the league or Chris Carson is the #4 ranked back so their criteria is also pretty faulty. But they are seeing what Barkley is doing on every play.

PFF has 440,000 twitter followers and it's pretty active with people liking and retweeting their tweets. Football Outsiders has 60,000 twitter Followers and their account is pretty much dead with no one using it. Obviously people only pay attention and use PFF. No one takes Football Outsiders seriously.

Idc about total yards. I don't think anybody except Cowboys fans would say Zeke is better then Barkley.

He only has 11 more yards from scrimmage and has 46 more touches. He also has 4 less touchdowns then Barkley.

If Saquon had those 46 extra touches he'd be ahead of Zeke by like 250 yards or if he finished last week's game he'd most likely be well ahead of Zeke.

Our week 17 game should help determine the yards from scrimmage leader. That should be pretty cool. I'd assume both defenses will want to make sure there guy leads the NFL in yards from scrimmage.
