B.W.Webb

Not much mention here about this guy but he has played really well. He has been such an upgrade to Apple and I am really surprised that the Giants are the 7th team he has been on since 2013. He hasn't been really exposed as a weak cover guy in any game and he isn't afraid to stick his nose in there to make a tackle. The team,I am sure is looking for another corner next season but I hope they keep Webb.
Apple was having a great start to the season as well

Would have been nice if we had Apple and Webb.
We also have

Beal who we spent a 3rd rounded on. Really hoping he can be special

I was wondering the same thing. Eli Apple is just flat out not good. He definitely doesn't pass the eye test. Just checked his PFF grade and he's the 97th rated CB.

Jerry Reese really screwed us. Picked Ereck Flowers over Todd Gurley. Picked Eli Apple over Laremy Tunsil.

I'm glad we ended up with Saquon, but if Reese would have made the obvious pick we'd most likely have an offense consisting of Sam Darnold, Todd Gurley, Odell, Shepard, Engram & Tunsil. Would be a real solid young core.

Apple’s first 3-4 games he played well. Definitely before his groin injury and maybe his first game back.

If we had Gurley and Tunsil, there is no way we are drafting 2 last year so no we would not have Darnold,

There was a very clear consensus on this board that Apple was playing very well to start the year. Amazing how people's memories change over time.

Another guy who is unsigned for next season.
Haley >> Apple

and cheaper ($300k vs $1M), younger (22 vs 23), signed longer (ERFA in 2020 vs UFA in 2020).

Apple was playing much better to start this year, but he still had his ups and downs and was also being outperformed by Jenkins/Webb at the time and has been outplayed by Haley since the trade.

A 28 year old vet that didn't play in 2017 and had to sign for vet min with the Giants. He's played very well, but I can't imagine it'll cost much (in $$ and years) to keep him. I'd guess something like 2 yrs/$6M with half gtd gets it done.
The problem is this

only 37 people under contract for 2019 and if we franchise Collins for 9 mil the cap money will go quickly.

They have a bunch of RFAs and ERFAs that won't cost much in terms of cap space:

Locks
Rosas
Penny

Likely
Halapio
Hamilton
Pulley
Coleman

Others
Tanney
Sokoli
Ladler
Williams

Add the 6 in the likely/locks categories and you're looking at 43 players under contract with maybe another $3-4M in cap space used.
He's
AcidTest : 12/12/2018 8:58 am : link
played well. I'd like to resign him, but I'm sure he'll have suitors and offers from other teams.
From the combine
Bob in Newburgh : 12/12/2018 9:53 am : link
Phenom vj at 41". Adequate starter 40 at 4.51. Probably lacks a 2nd gear makeup speed, but many starters, even stars, do lack this.

Combine this with the scheme and man vision and awareness we have seen and this is an NFL starting cb.
I'm curious...
Dan in the Springs : 12/12/2018 10:30 am : link
as to how he feels he's benefitted from moving from the slot to the outside.

I think his play was good in the slot, not great. His play on the outside meanwhile has been very good. So has he been coached up, elevated his level of play, or the position requirement better fit his skill set?

My guess is the last explanation.
