Top 25 NFL free agents for 2019

since1925 : 12/12/2018 10:24 am
Not a bad list. Here's a fuller list.

http://nfltraderumors.co/2019-nfl-free-agents-list/

How we approach free agency will have a huge affect on the draft.
Top 25 - ( New Window )
Lawrence, or Clowney
Big Blue '56 : 12/12/2018 10:28 am : link
or Dix would be my choice on quick perusal. Might be more than we are willing to spend. How deep are the LB and DE positions in the draft?
Yuck
JonC : 12/12/2018 10:31 am : link
not much (overpriced) help on that list. Keep Collins, make a call to Ford's agent, and move along.

About Frank Clark and I agree — kid is a stud and would be a nice addition if the financials work out.

Lawrence, Clowney, or Dix aren't going anywhere. Dix was just traded for. Washington is not going to let him walk after trading for him.

I thought Dix was awful over the weekend. Some of the angles he took on a few running plays were poor, and he was pretty bad in coverage too.

Love to see the Giants get Daryl Williams. Plug him in at RT next to Brown at RG and you have the making of a pretty solid OL entering next season.
One player who I like that is not on that list
Jay on the Island : 12/12/2018 10:50 am : link
is Bucs LT Donovan Smith. He would be a much better fit at RT. He is young with lots of starting experience who could thrive with a move to the right side. Draft a C in round 2 plus adding Smith in FA would go a long way towards fixing the line.
Dix is subpar

Lawrence/Clowney will be franchised if extensions can't be reached.

Dix wouldn't be a bad replacement if they let Collins go, but isn't a great fit next to him.

Daryl Williams is a guy to keep an eye on. Drafted by DG, started all 16 last season and was slated to do so again this year before injuring his knee game 1. Would fill arguably the biggest hole on offense and supposedly the draft is loaded with talent at center (the other glaring hole).

Yea, he's a poor man's Collins.
Daryl Williams and a pass rusher like Preston Smith
Eric on Li : 12/12/2018 10:54 am : link
or even Anthony Barr from Minny. Someone more explosive on the upswing of their career to replace Barwin. Also need to draft at least 1 of each position.

Secondary obviously also needs work but hopefully they can find some guys one 1-2 year deals there.

Exactly like juggernaut said. He is noticeably slower with bad angles. He is just a name at this point. But the point remains, Washington didn't trade for to let him walk after a half a season.
Clark is a beast
ryanmkeane : 12/12/2018 10:57 am : link
...he's gonna command massive dollars and I'd be shocked if the Seahawks let him walk, he was their draft pick

They traded for him before Smith's injury when they were still hoping to make a playoff run. I'm guessing they'll try and re-sign him, but I can't imagine he's a priority or a lock to stay there.

I wanted Smith last year but he re-signed with the Skins. He should be a top target for the Giants. Release Vernon sign Smith and draft a pass rusher in round 1 or 2 to compete with Lorenzo Carter opposite Smith.
OLB
giants#1 : 12/12/2018 11:01 am : link
Maybe look at a guy like Za'Darius Smith whose having a bit of a breakout season with 7 sacks and 18 QBHits.

Or take a flier on Dante Folwer or Shane Ray and see if a change of scenery can help them.
Darryl Williams has to be on the top of the list.
ajr2456 : 12/12/2018 11:01 am : link
If Brown is as good as we think, Williams could push the line over the edge of mediocre.

Hard pass on Frank Clark.

You responded re: Dix, but then mention Fowler. Do you think teams normally trade for players and then let them walk after a half a season?
Not on the top 25 list
Chris684 : 12/12/2018 11:07 am : link
but what do we think of Ja'Wuan James at RT?

Bring back Brown.
Draft a center in rounds 1-3.
Wheeler becomes backup/swing T.
Huh...
Dan in the Springs : 12/12/2018 11:07 am : link
Flowers not on the list? Color me surprised.
Nothing on that list
micky : 12/12/2018 11:08 am : link
Have to rely on draft
We need at least one good FA OL
BillT : 12/12/2018 11:20 am : link
Along with signing Brown. It would be preferable, I think, if it was a RT. That upgrades a weak spot that is hard to fill even with a high rookie draft choice.
Matt Paradis
AcesUp : 12/12/2018 11:24 am : link
Is the guy I'd like them to make a run at. I know there is a lot of talent at C in the draft, however that also plays in FA as teams may take that mentality as well. I don't see his contract getting out of hand like some of the edge rushers and OT talent will. He's a signing that will help fortify the OL and one we won't regret down the road.

Fowler yes. I am not sure that Rams have the cap to sign him long term. They are trying to win this year and old gave up a 5th for him. They can let him walk.

Remember Goff and Peters, Zuerline, Whitworth (who they will not resign but may need to find a FA replacement) entering final year next year.

Normally? I'm not positive, but it certainly seemed there was a lot more action at the trade deadline than in years past.

But there's also a big difference in trading premium picks for guys like Cooper, Mack vs trading mid-late round picks for players like Dix or Fowler. I think the Skins and Rams will try and re-sign them, but I don't think either is worthy of even the transition tag and the primary motivation for both trades was to improve the teams for this season.

Also, without using tags, there's a decent chance both hit the open market, since they haven't signed extensions yet. At that point, the Skins/Rams are on even footing with the rest of the league.

Move on from Collins
Doubledeuce22 : 12/12/2018 11:52 am : link
Spend the money on Paradis and make a real play at Dee Ford. That’s what I would love to see happen. Draft a RT. Take a flier on someone like Adrian Amos.

Dix has absolutely sucked and the Skins front office and staff will get blown up this offseason.

He is from Long island so maybe he wants to come home
not sure Frank Clark is scheme diverse
JonC : 12/12/2018 12:20 pm : link
looks like 4-3 DE to me.
The list of available QBs is downright ugly.
Spider56 : 12/12/2018 12:35 pm : link
Very happy we got Eli signed thru next year ... now is the time to find the heir and give him a 1 year apprenticeship with our GOAT.
Agree that Clowney and Lawrence aren’t going anywhere,
Big Blue '56 : 12/12/2018 12:35 pm : link
but either would certainly be my choice if available.

Thanks for the input on Dix
If Bridgewater is the only QB ranked in top 25
Blue21 : 12/12/2018 1:37 pm : link
that's available then Eli will be the QB next year. Maybe they can make it more cap friendly. It will at least give KL another year. It might mean even extending Eli another year to make it friendlier.
Dee Ford
Earl the goat : 12/12/2018 2:01 pm : link

Dee Ford
Matt Paradis
Breeze_94 : 12/12/2018 4:39 pm : link
should be the top target. One of the best Centers in the league.

RT Daryl Williams would also be a nice target.

ILB Deone Buchanon, re-unite him with Betcher.

OLB Za'Darius Smith, Preston Smith could be targets if Vernon is cut. Cheaper contracts, upside players who fit the 3-4.

Dee Ford would be great, might be too pricey though.
Give me
TommyWiseau : 12/12/2018 7:10 pm : link
Two of these three and I will be estatic. Matt Paradis, Daryl Williams and Dee Ford
Flowers and Brown
Doomster : 12/12/2018 9:50 pm : link
have played very well for the Pats....
James
Marty866b : 12/12/2018 11:26 pm : link
The right tackle for the Dolphins has been a solid player and a huge upgrade at that position for the Giants.
You guys can forget Frank Clark
BH28 : 12/12/2018 11:34 pm : link
He has domestic assault issues, punched an ex girlfriend in the face.

After the Josh Brown issues, I don't think the Giants would go after anyone with that history, nor should they.
Pass on Donovan Smith
Big Rick in FL : 12/13/2018 1:41 am : link
Give me Darryl Williams or Ja'Wuan James.
3/4 of those guys
Dnew15 : 12/13/2018 9:39 am : link
won't make it to the open market.

We have to come away with a OT in free agency also
Paridis Dee Ford are a couple to consider .
Chiefs C Mitch Morse is another option
