for bringing my son on a Saturday. It was either that or I didn't come in. Now, there are people that bring their kids every now and then on a normal work day and nothing is said.
Kids of my own so I don’t mind meeting kids of colleagues the rare time they bring them in, especially as I have an office and can shut the door , put on headphones after
My kids into the office once when the pre school they attended shut down in the morning to a broken pipe. I had to keep hold them for a hour as my wife was a Dr appointment and couldn't get there any faster. I work in my own office in the corner of a large building and all they did was color at small table in the middle of my room but you would have thought I had a bunch of terrorist in there the way some of the office people acted.
problem with that in our office. I work for a large retailer and most people love it or are indifferent. Then again it's majority women here and they tend to have a soft spot for kids from my experience.
Not allowed in the building. Allowed to see the workplace once a year on a Saturday “Family Day” (non working day). Also a once a year “Bring Your Child To Work Day” (9 to 18 years old).
for kids to go to work with parents, at least once in a while. I don't believe kids can grow up expecting to act like professionals if they don't get a chance to see their parents in a professional environment. It seems that complaining about kids coming into the office shouldn't jive with complaining about graduates not understanding how to be professional about things.
A couple of caveats.
Kids should be well behaved. Parents should know that their kids behavior is a reflection of their parenting, and should be held accountable for it. This means they should probably not plan to have them there for the entire day at the office.
Experiences like these should not become the norm.
I don't prefer the "bring your son/daughter to work day" as those days often modify the normal behaviors in the office and kids see a special day in the office, not the normal work routines.
on his job every Christmas time when I was off at school in the late 70's and early 80's.
He was a construction worker and I loved going onto the job site with him. Would get to sit in cranes and help out with some simple remedial tasks to feel part of the team. Ate taylor ham, egg and cheese sandwiches for morning break and prosciutto and fresh mozz for lunch. And of course got to purvey through all the girlie mags in the break trailor. Awesome times.
Someone very successful once gave me sage advice. Â
When it comes to work and family, no one ... I repeat no one really cares about your kids ... or wants to hear of their exploits. Unless you’re into nepotism, keep work and family separated.
There sure are a lot of miserable bastards on this site.
I was thinking the same thing. I come to bbi daily and I always leave wondering if bbi is a good indication of whats really out there. So much misery and complaining.

It's just great when someone achieves some level of success, and their words on almost any topic suddenly deserve great reverence.

I enjoyed the "no one... i repeat no one .." bit for added theatrics too. But I do have to agree - I dont really care to hear about teenager 'exploits' either, and I definitely dont understand what the fuck any of this has to do with nepotism in general (was one of these kids recently hired to be the Boss?)
I also enjoyed the post above by the uy who apparently works in the CIA that kids are only ... allowed in the fucking building... one Saturday per year.
teen kids coming to see their parent, where I work, so we know most of them at least a little bit. No biggie.
Former boss at a different assignment within the same org used to bring his beagle to work and let him have the run of the place. Not nights. Not weekends. Middle of the day, mornings, afternoons, wherever. Again, no biggie to me ... nice dog who' always come into my office all happy. Who doesn't like that?
The interesting thing happened when a worker bee-level employee brought his dog into the office ON A SATURDAY. No one around but a few people. Monday morning he was called in a reprimanded.
Boss was "encouraged to find employment elsewhere" within 6 months for other reasons. Was not sad about it.
people are causing a disturbance that impedes other's work, why would this be an issue??
I know a lot of my co-workers spouses and children. We often have group dinners around Holiday time and I really don't mind taking 10 minutes out of the day to talk to somebody who might be visiting the office.
Are people bringing kids in and letting them run rampant often? Because the amount of times I've actually seen that in my career - Zero.
1) The kids better not make a disturbance;
2) You are responsible for watching your children - don't ask me to do it; and
3) Don't ask me if I want to meet your children, especially when I am in the middle of doing something important or in the process of accomplishing a task that requires my undivided attention
I understand the occasional emergency, or even simply having your kid come and see what work's like, but it's annoying around the holidays when there are kids floating around.
Your kids at your desk, in the kitchen, in the conferenslce room is annoying.
The workplace isn't your babysitter. Take the day off or work from home.

IMO it only sucks balls when they intrude on your time and want to show off their kids/dogs (worst to me is when they bring the dreaded newborn in and you have to pretend to make a big deal like it’s Jesus in that swathe).
I'm more annoyed by the employee who over emphasizes their mundane tasks, portraying themselves as a hero. Not the employee who is genuine and openly shows their work and home life balance.
People are freaking dog crazy these days.
Haha
Gold star.

I would be thrilled if the people at my office were replaced with dogs. Hell, I would feed/water them daily and take them for walks.

Fuck you both, you cunts, you.
And for the record, 146 words. BITCHES!

Dogs behave better than kids

Is that more of what is being complained about?
Absolute brilliance. Bravo.
IMHO every child should go to work with a parent at least once if circumstances allow for it.
