This guy gets it, and IMHO makes a lot of excellent observations about Saquon. Includes lots of fine illustrative clips from Barkley's career and Penn State, including his bad tendency to try to make something out of nothing, and digging a deeper hole for his team.
Points out rightly how piss poor PSU's OL was relative to some of the D's they went up against - like OSU's 2015 squad that put like 10 players in the NFL. With tape of Barkley as a Frosh, battling against them. Hurdles included.
I know I watched the PSU vs OSU games the following years.
Ohio State always had more D talent than Penn State had on their OL.

Game Wrecker by Brett Kollman - ( New Window )
This guy Kollman loves SB, and shows why.
Did Gettleman really say that? What's funny to me about the commentary of Kollman is that he repeatedly compares SB to LdT. Whereas we older gents see Barry Sanders of even Gayle Sayers in his style.
I guess I never paid much attention to Tomlinson's career to see him reflected in Barkley's style. Since I haven't been here for about 2.5 years, I didn't know it was posted pre draft.
It's cool Kollman starts with freshman Barkley's amazing game vs the Buckeyes in 2015, a loaded team on D especially, that also included Elliot. And Kollman notes how SB was clearly the best player on the field.
When the Cowboys grabbed EE, it made me want Barkley for the Giants so that we'd have the truly great one.

My mother could scout him. Total Freak.

Lou,
DG said that, great line. I'm in the minority but I really like DG.

Tomlinson was a treat to watch. He's on the mount rushmore of NFL backs in the modern era. He had no weaknesses in his game.
I have never agreed with the Barry Sanders comparison for Barkley simply because they couldn't be more physically opposite. Barry Sanders was tiny even by 1980s NFL standards. A player of Barry Sanders' size today would probably never get the chance to carry the ball enough to show what skills he has.

I see your point about Sanders being too "small" to be a comp for SB, but keep in mind he was ridiculously strong, fast and explosive by every track and field test he did at his pro day. I put "small" in quotes because Sanders' build - he measured 5'7"5/8 at his pro day at 203# - reminds me of a Bill Parcels line about Joe Morris. "He's not SMALL", Parcels said (supposedly patting Morris on his enormous pecs), "HE'S SHORT."
Lastly, I've been going through every Barkley interview I can rustle up lately, and SB claims that his 29 bench press reps and 4.40 time in the 40 yard dash were both well short of his best efforts in practices. Said he runs a 4.3 or better. Watching him blow past Dix as if Ha Ha was a lampost makes me tend to believe him.
He and OBJ should run a match race sometime for charity.
