stock in who is in and who isn't. When I went to the R&R Hall of Fame there was a special section for country music performers. WTF? Don't they have their own Hall of Fame?
Not saying they should be in, but they are the most underappreciated band on that list.
Listen to Kick Out The Jams. That's 1969. NOBODY sounded like that in 1969.

Absolutely. They were around a good 4-5 years before The Ramones, Sex Pistols, etc. CBGBs didn't even open until '73 and was a country music bar at first. A man named James Osterberg saw an MC5 concert and then decided to call himself Iggy Pop.

I am a huge, lifelong U2 fan and Eno has been an great influence (and Lanois) on their music since The Unforgettable Fire. So I've grown very fond of him over the years.
As I'm sure you know he's been involved with Bowie, Coldplay, Talking Heads, Devo, etc over his illustrious career. Definitely someone who deserves HoF recognition.

Wow....seeing all those bands grouped together like that makes you realize what a joke the "ROCK AND ROLL" HOF really is. Pretty obvious that any Hard Rock band is going to struggle to be admitted. And no, im not putting Def Leppard in that category. They arent being admitted for "High N Dry"; they are being admitted for their more Pop leaning works of the later 80's. But I dont have a problem with them at all, really. Same with the Cure-for me, they are in based on Disintegration alone, one of my favorite albums ever. When I was 15 I thought Stevie Nicks was a rock goddess, so not gonna fight that one too much. Radiohead....I know everyone loves them. I just dont get it. I try to listen to them and they just dont move me. But yeah...I do recognize they are loved by most. So OK. Zombies-loved Time of the Season, Tell Her No and Shes Not There. Couldnt name another song. And Janet Jackson....no comment necessary other than when the aliens come to earth and we need to explain what rock and roll is, are we gonna play the bands on this list....or Janet Friggin Jackson?????
Doobie Brothers - I think so? Makes sense. So many good albums. And they were on What's Happenin' for Godssake
The Smiths - 3 years, 4 great albums. Shame they're not in.
The Pixies - HUGE SNUB
Bad Company - Love the band, and Free. I don't think there's enough there.
Ronnie James Dio - Did he get inducted with Sabbath? Not sure Dio as a band should be in.. neither is Rainbow.
Motley Crue - A couple of great albums, but not hall worthy
King Crimson - I didn't realize they weren't in. Too avante guard for the RRHOF snobs?
Faith No More - Patton should have a shrine there.
The Guess Who - Not hall worthy.
Megadeth - SHIT YES. Ask any REAL metal band who their influence is.. hint, it's NOT Metallica.
Sammy Hagar - I don't see it. He's in with VH. Montrose was good, but not hall worthy. Solo? I don't see it.
Pantera - Yes yes and yes.
Fucking Ozzy!!! - Interesting. Those first two solo albums are beyond classic. That alone should have him in, I think? There's a lot of crap after that haha
NIN - Yep
Soundgarden - That whole era needs to be re-evaluated. AIC?

I believe as an individual, her work with Fleetwood Mac is taken into consideration here, because of what she represented artistically, a truly unique talent - there's no one else like her, and in a big-dick-guitar heavy era that featured few female artists, she was a huge icon, in or out of Fleetwood Mac. A great singer/songwriter with unique and dramatic stage presence, she penned and recorded some really beautiful songs - 'Sara' will forever be a personal favorite - while she may not have a catalog packed with top-40 hits, her impact is significant, and worthy of induction, IMO.
I see your point, but don't agree. Keith Richards is the poster child for rock n roll. His impact is beyond significant. He has written more amazing riffs than most of the world combined.
He is in the RRHOF as a member of the Rolling Stones. That's where he belongs.
His solo album is better than ANY Stones album after Exile (including Some Girls, Tattoo You).. but a great string of songs doesn't make one worthy.
Nick's is a great/iconic lead singer for a legendary band.. and she was recognized as such by being inducted with them. Her solo accomplishments shouldn't have been enough to get her in.

I can't say I have ever heard of Roxy Music.
I'll be the first to tell you I'm not a huge music buff, but I'd like to think I should have heard of most hall of fame inductees.
Roxy Music = Harold Baines?
(I do really like The Cure, really glad to see that)
Flame away.
I'm a pretty big fan of Roxy Music and think they deserve the HOF. They may have been before your time, but I believe they were very influential on a lot of bands, especially of the 80s.
In fact, I would say there were multiple bands that borrowed, almost even stole their sound and ended up with bigger commercial success, e.g., The Fixx, Talk Talk, Flock of Seagulls, et al.
RE: They really need to rename this the American Music Hall of Fame Â

Outside the band she has a tiny body of work. There's no logical reason to include her as a solo artist.
Considering R&B/Soul/Pop (Janet's Genre) music derived from Rock & Roll I say she belongs there. 10 #1 hits, 28 top ten hits, and 100 million sold. Her resume is very worthy. Whether you like her music or not isn't the measuring stick.
Btw, beyond her work with Fleetwood Mac, and her monster Bella Donna album - which featured most sessions legends, she also, more than any other major artitst I can think of, sang on a lot of other artists' albums, singles and supported them on stage in concerts. Both with and without Mac, she didn't just write some big songs, she wrote some monster hits - the kind that have movies named after them, So I think she absolutely belongs.

Roxy music tracks, what would you guys recommend? I'm talking 2-3 songs, there's no chance of me committing an hour to an album or an entire greatest hits if I don't like the appetizer first...

I don't know the best way to describe them, they're definitely not hard rock, but they're not soft rock either.

I know a lot of people hate Dave Matthews Band for a variety of valid-to-stupid reasons. But I can't believe they didn't even get nominated in year one.
Biggest touring act of the 2000s, huge album sales (7 straight albums debuting at #1), Tons of philanthropy, awesome relationship with fans. Tremendous musicianship.
In terms of musicianship, they have one of the best drummers alive in Carter Beauford. They combine African beats and world music with acoustic/electric rock, bluegrass, and jazz. Not many bands feature an electric violin and a sax, and later. Plus, their live shows feature long solos, constant improvisation. Bands that sound better live than in the studio have a ton of respect in my book.
And their versatility and talents have enabled them to play with a wide variety of other great artists like: Santana, Al Green, Buddy Guy, Allman Brothers, Dylan, Bowie, Paul Simon, Neil Young, The Roots, Stevie Wonder, Tom Morello, Willie Nelson, Eddie Vedder, and Trombone Shorty.

I gave them a little 15 minute run on Spotify earlier. Not my cup of tea. Usually I can see the appeal even in music I don't personally enjoy, but I actually found it quite boring.
Given the tiny chance I gave it, I'll gladly defer to the rest of the group and admit that my Harold Baines comparison was unfounded.
Notheless, I'm thankful for everyone edifying me this morning about who they are and the credit they get in the industry. I learned something.
is up there with almost any female artist ever in terms of influencing a generation of artists.
"Rock and Roll" is a stupid term for this Hall of Fame and has been from the beginning. Were the Supremes, Smokey Robinson, and Simon and Garfunkel really "rock and roll"?
Rock and Roll evolved from R&B and now Hip Hop/R&B is the new rock and roll. Music tastes change, genres bend and blur.
The "Rock and Roll" in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is simply part of a brand name at this point and has been for a while. Like it or not, it is no longer a style requirement of the bands/artists/pop stars it recognizes.
but they just don't do it for me. Maybe I haven't found that one song that would unlock their appeal, but for the most part, their vocals just don't agree with me. The singing generally sounds like it's making fun of something.
at this point. It stopped being a Rock n Roll Hall of Fame a long times ago.
What music is Rock & Roll to you? I think they're using the term as in mainstream. Most of the pop music/r&b music/metal/etc has it's roots in the original rock & roll.
The first album was great. The second was good, but a bit redundant. The rest was repetitive shit and they became completely irrelevant. I like RATM, but they are not HOF worthy due to not doing it long enough or being consistent. They were influential, but not nearly as much as people think when you really look at it.
Now Faith No More is a band that is getting a short end of the stick...
All three are HIGHLY influential bands. All three basically created genres by themselves.
Stevie Nicks is the most overrated solo artist ever. She got in by name. She has written some good songs, but come on. If you are going by songs, John Prine has written better. And HE is endorsed by Dylan!!
Def Lep.. I love and still listen to High N Dry, Pyromania. But I agree... bar is low.
same with Kraftwerk. way more so than Rage against the machine.

I think that her status is very tricky. Yes, her best work was with Fleetwood Mack, and yes, many of her best songs were written by Buckingham, but she was also an artist in her own right, as part of the band and on her own.
She created a female sound, as part of FM and on her own that is pretty much unique in the history of Rock--if you disagree, who sounds similar? In a REAL R and R Hall of Fame, if we had one, artistic creativity would matter. And she had that. How many lead singers--even in groups with multiple leads like FM--were as capable as Nicks of creating a unique artistic persona? I find almost none, but I like hers more than a lot of people, I am aware.
why the fuck are you looking for something regarding me??? What the hell! How dare you look for a single thing.
This kind of flippancy enrages me at the very core, that a person would take it upon themselves to look as if I don't have two fucking eyes! You insulting pig!!
but they just don't do it for me. Maybe I haven't found that one song that would unlock their appeal, but for the most part, their vocals just don't agree with me. The singing generally sounds like it's making fun of something.
Have you listened to Out of The Blue? (live version linked above)

Sure there is. It's because it was a male dominated industry, it's because of her influence and impact as an individual artist, in and out of Fleetwood Mac.
In that band, she became more than just a part of the whole. It was a unique group, in that Buckingham and McVee's songs were complemented by Stevie's backups, but her songs were clearly Stevie Nicks songs, not Fleetwood Mac songs.
It's a unique circumstance - most major acts have one frontman, one focus. Fleetwood Mac requires different analysis and recognition - the unique evolution of that band through Peter Green and Bob Welch to Buckingham/Nicks - an award to Fleetwood Mac as a whole really waters down Stevies contribution to the industry and her impact and influence on so many female artists.

They were one of the key progenitors of psychedelic rock and had three signature songs that were emblematic of the entire 1960s rock scene:

Rage
Roxy
Devo
All three are HIGHLY influential bands. All three basically created genres by themselves.
Stevie Nicks is the most overrated solo artist ever. She got in by name. She has written some good songs, but come on. If you are going by songs, John Prine has written better. And HE is endorsed by Dylan!!

absolutely.. oversight on my part.
This kind of flippancy enrages me at the very core, that a person would take it upon themselves to look as if I don't have two fucking eyes! You insulting pig!!
Next time, just ask how deep my love is......:)
Have you listened to Out of The Blue? (live version linked above)
There are many non-American bands in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Strange comment

I believe as an individual, her work with Fleetwood Mac is taken into consideration here, because of what she represented artistically, a truly unique talent
huh?
Outside the band she has a tiny body of work. There's no logical reason to include her as a solo artist.
So yeah. She deserves her own nomination.
