20 Years Ago Today: Undefeated No More

mac attack : 12/13/2018 11:57 am

I can remember this like is was 2 years ago, let alone 20 years! What a comeback from a bad team led by Kent Graham!

Throwback Thursday: Toomer Beats Broncos - ( New Window )
My friend Mark and I were there
Jints in Carolina : 12/13/2018 12:00 pm : link
One of my favorite live Giants games of all time.
A guy I worked with back then was in a survivor pool
GIANTS128 : 12/13/2018 12:01 pm : link
The Giants win netted him and his buddy 25k.
Bright spot in an otherwise dark season

In a mostly dark decade.
Not to be a dick but I don't think you used "let alone" correctly

Anyway, too bad I didn't follow the Giants yet.
I was right above that catch.
Giants86 : 12/13/2018 12:05 pm : link
place went nuts. That win got us to 6-8 and we finished
8-8. Another Giants team that would lose close games and underachieved, even with Graham as the QB.
I was sitting about 20 rows up
Leg of Theismann : 12/13/2018 12:06 pm : link
In that very endzone. Still gives me chills to watch to this day.
I was in the first row
Jolly Blue Giant : 12/13/2018 12:07 pm : link
In that end zone but in the other corner. I saw his feet were in and knew it was a TD. Refs were discussing for a while before signal. I don’t think there was replay yet. Someone gave me their tickets for free. Nobody wanted to go to that game in the cold. Great memory!
One of the few games I've missed since 1981
JonC : 12/13/2018 12:07 pm : link
Still never watched it, tho I think BB56 gave me a CD with the game on it.
We were on the 20 yard line
Jints in Carolina : 12/13/2018 12:07 pm : link
18 rows back from the end zone where it happened....saw the play perfectly.

crazy rules?
I LOVED that win.
mrvax : 12/13/2018 12:12 pm : link
I remember that POS, steroid fueled, a-hole Bill Romanowski taunting Giant fans. That win stuck it to the jerk!
Imagine how pissed MNF must have been...
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 12/13/2018 12:13 pm : link
If memory serves, I believe Denver was scheduled to play Miami the following Monday. The whole 'Can Denver go undefeated?' storyline for that game would have been off the charts due to them playing the only organization that had an undefeated team, the '72 'Fins.
I was there
The 12th Man : 12/13/2018 12:13 pm : link
sitting opposite corner of that endzone from where the pass was caught. Place was great all day lots of energy D played great. Remember that piece of shit Romanowski putting his hands to his groin after he picked off Graham. Crowd let him have it. When the Giants all I could think of was that roid piece of shit and loving the fact that we beat him and his undeafeated Broncos.
Huh?

How could that ref rule incomplete? It wasn't even close.

Wut?
I was at this game too.
truebluelarry : 12/13/2018 12:18 pm : link
Toomer's TD was in the opposite end zone from my seats (I was in Sec 102) and I was screaming "He was in! It was a catch!) Everytime I see a replay of that catch I remember that official waving it incomplete. Thank god they made the right call.

it seems like most of BBI occupied that endzone.
There were a bunch of
BIG FRED 1973 : 12/13/2018 12:56 pm : link
NY/NJ Bronco fans in my section ,they were so annoying LOL.That 1998 team should have been better but had some non competitive games vs the Bucs, packers and 49ERS .
I was also seated in that endzone
GiantJake : 12/13/2018 1:03 pm : link
28 rows up and it was great. I have been to many games and that was one of the best. There were four obnoxious Broncos fans sitting in front of us. They ran their mouths all game until Toomer scored the TD. They headed for the exit while being booed and by the entire section. It was extremely gratifying and a great day at the stadium.
No doubt, this was a trap game for Denver.....
Doomster : 12/13/2018 1:07 pm : link
They were thinking of the Dolphins, not the Giants, and that's what happens when you take a team for granted........

But man, that was wonderful to see....
I remember being in grade school and
Gordo : 12/13/2018 3:13 pm : link
sitting on the couch before the game. My older brother strolled up from his room, and we were talking about the Giants game. He said they were going to get crushed, and I said, " I have a good feeling about this game, this would be a typical game that Giants would have no business winning". We laugh still about it today, That game started a joke trend in my family about how the giants are always a team that nobody can predict.
Oh I still remember that day
lester : 12/13/2018 3:19 pm : link
was studying for finals in college and some how we got the Giants game on TV......eventually ended up that the Giants/Broncos game when Toomer caught the winner from Eli.
one of my fav games

are available below. You'll see some familiar faces. Joe Jurevicius makes a nice reception in the go-ahead drive (Giants should never have released him). John Fox, Giants DC, working the defense. Gary Kubiak, Denver OC, under Mike Shanahan Denver HC.
