WR Odell Beckham Jr. -- December 13, 2018
Q: Had a little field trip today, I heard.
A: Yeah, nice little field trip. It was good. We just went in, got it scanned just to see everything and itís doing much better than it was. Just taking it a day at a time, thatís really it.
Q: You have any idea about Sunday?
A: I honestly donít know until Sunday gets here. Itís just been getting better each and every day so just got to figure out what it was. Kind of happened the last play of the Eagles game and I donít know, whatever you want to call it, whatever did it and itís kind of ever since then been lingering around. I just kind of played through it and then itís just aggravated, so we just went in, took some looks, get some tests, want to see exactly what was going on.
Q: What was that 24 hours like between Friday and Saturday?
A: It sucked. I felt like, alright itíll get better, itíll get better and then it was just that part that was like nothing I can do because I remember a game last year in London or whenever we played in London, I was hurt back from the Baltimore game and I literally didnít run until warmups and I just couldnít miss it. I just couldnít miss the game, so if I miss a game then I really miss a game. Of all the things to miss, I wouldnít be trying to miss a game.
Q: What was it that made you feel like you guys needed to get it checked out today?
A: Just the way it was feeling. Come in Friday and go get it checked again just to see if thereís anything, if thereís progress, if theyíre seeing the same thing. Just kind of feel like itís the right thing to do, just check on it. You got the resources there, might as well use them.
Q: So itís a contusion?
A: I donít know. Itís like saying I broke my leg, well you really fractured it. Itís just choice of words, whatever you want to call it. Shit ainít right.
Q: If you had to play today, would you be able to?
A: Thatís a tough question. I donít even know how to answer that question. Like I said, I wouldnít have missed last week if I could play, so I donít specifically know. If I had on pads and a helmet and the game was about to start in five minutes, I donít know. Iím not in that position right now, so canít really answer.
Q: I would think the only thing worse than missing a game and the team losing is missing a game where you end up scoring 40 points.
A: Yeah, but it was a lot of fun to be able to sit there and watch (Sterling) Shep score, Bennie (Fowler) score, Russell (Shepard) score, Saquon (Barkley) score, defense scoring. It was a lot of fun and thatís exactly the kind of atmosphere and energy I want to be apart of. Thatís what I would love to see more from us. I know that weíve been working very hard coming off 1-7 to where weíre at now, a lot of progress and thatís just the result of it. It definitely wouldíve been fun, but the receivers we have are Ė we always have receiver nights and stuff like that where we eat and stuff. We had probably one of the best Thursdays of the year and the most fun we had and just great vibes, good times, and they went out and played like that. It sucked being at home watching, I wish I couldíve been there and watched, but itís fun to see that.
Q: Whatíd you think of Shepís blocking?
A: I love it, I love it. Any chance you can be Ė itís kind of something me and him always talk about like I want to spring a big one, you want to have a good block though. Come in like the way he did and crack somebody so when I saw him fly onto the screen and make that block, thatís what we talk about in our room, thatís what we preach. Just for it to show up on tape is good.
Q: You surprised that you guys are still alive in the playoff hunt? I know that youíre not surprised that youíre winning these games, but just in terms of the whole scenario?
A: You know when we were 1-7 and I sat there and said I feel like weíre going to win every single game, the goal is to win every single game, it wasnít me just throwing those words around. Now weíre in that position with the one little mishap, I still see us going 8-8 and I just feel like heís got a plan and itís all going to fall together. Whoever needs to lose and this and that and all the pieces that need to fall in place, I feel like theyíre going to fall in place and weíre going to be in the spot we want to be in. Just take it one day at a time. I know we got a tough matchup coming up against Tennessee and weíll see how it goes from there.
Q: You get more testing done today?
A: Kind of more of the same. Just kind of like a comparison with what happened five days ago to letís see whatever it looks like now. Thatís just kind of what it was, a reassurance thing, a double check, check-up kind of thing.
Q: Something happen Friday? Did it give you peace of mind?
A: I mean yes and no. Just being in the doctorís office isnít fun. Knowing that there is something going on isnít fun, but I got a peace of mind just in general about everything, life, in general so Iím good.
Q: What happened Friday? Was it something at practice, did it became worse or something because you guys had practice and then Ė
A: Honestly just was feeling something like alright let me just speak up. I feel like a younger me wouldnít have spoke up or said anything and then I wouldíve went out and played and couldíve been worse so we went and got it checked and seen whatever we saw, just kind of going from there. Itís not my expertise, I know a little bit about it, but I kind of let them read and figure out everything thatís going on and just go with their game plan.
Q: Did anything happen yesterday because you were out there just a little bit?
A: No, nothing happened yesterday. I really was just trying to feel everything out. Iíve learned from pushing something, so itís a timetable thing and just whenever itís better, Iíll definitely be out there. I donít want to be missing Ė I donít even like missing practice, so whenever I could run, Iíll be running.
Q: You saw that clip of Saquon directing the line on how to block on that 78-yard run. How high is his football IQ especially as a rookie?
A: I didnít see that, but I tell him all the time Iíve been calling him ROY (Rookie of the Year) since August. I think heís going to be. If not, heís going to be one of the greatest ever. Heís a ball player, so heís got a great future ahead of him.
