Truth is, he doesn’t have to. He just evades everyone.
He doesn't break tackles? Did I read that right? Or was it just heavy sarcasm.
According to Football Outsiders, he leads the entire league in them and it's literally not even close. The next closest RB is like 20 broken tackles behind Barkley.

He doesn't break them, he runs through them before they even become tackle attempts. Or he just blows past people, through people, or rips out of their grasp, but yeah he doesn't break anything.
When this kid gets a year in our strength training and conditioning program, when he has a full year behind an improved line, when he has a full year of learning our offense and being used to the speed of the game, when the coaches have full knowledge of how to best utilize him in the passing game, etc, etc. etc......
Looking forward to this kid building his case for the Hall of Fame

Lol Saquon has been on an NFL level strength training program since his freshman year of college.

I've had the same thoughts. It clearly took a few weeks for Barkley to "hit his stride" and find his own game rhythm as he alluded to. (IMO it was the Bucs game.) He was trying to mimic other players like Bell instead of just being himself. He's found his own game speed and is now a 100% confident version of himself.
it rarely works out the way we want but it feels different this time.
But had you told me after Shockey's rookie year he wouldn't really have another year like that I'd never believe it. I was equally floored by him and though he was an All Time Great. Let's hope Barkley stays hungry and focused and trains just as hard. I remember Tiki saying it wasn't Sundays that made him quit, it was going through that workout routine at DeFrancos.
Improvement can come with better blocking/a stronger OL and more effective pass game - it doesn't have to be a matter of Barkley himself getting stronger or faster (not sure he even can anyway)
Improvement will come from becoming a better route runner Â
This was a criticism coming out of the draft and it's interesting that Vaccaro picks up on it.
From Boylhart (December 2017)...
Quote:
Biggest issue for Saquon is that he needs to learn to run better routes; right now in the offensive system he plays in, the OC uses a lot of rub routes by wide receivers and Tight Ends to free him up. If he wants to play the slot on third down he has to improve his route running or those NFL cover safeties will make it difficult for him to separate and lesson his impact.
From Brenda Vaccaro (December 2018)...

He’s explosive and fast, but he’s not running routes like a receiver. He’s not Antonio Brown or DeAndre Hopkins, but he’s a very good pass-catching back.

Yeah, I dont think it possible for him to lift more weight. Dude can clean over 400 pounds
strength program it really just means the player was a late bloomer, a lazy ass, or undisciplined in college and relied on being more talented than everyone else. That is definetly not Saquon.

Nice, Lippy. How about this:
He's broken so many tackles, the league has tripled his insurance premium.

A S&C program will help Barkley minimumly and extend his career. But don't expect great improvement as Barkely has little room to improve.
