I prefer talent to cap space as free agents almost always are over paid.Would like to see giants keep Eli ,Jenkins and re work contract with Vernon.Would like to sign a center or a guard and fill other holes in draft and with players not yet over valued.
cap space - (
New Window )
OTC says $32.6M cap space for 2019, and cutting Stewart brings the total to $35M, less allocation for ERFA and RFA tenders. I count Engram as WR, so you have OBJ, Shep, Engram, plus Henderson under contract, and you can tender Coleman. I'm encouraged that DG's FA class from last year is starting to finally show signs that they can contribute. I would resign Webb and Brown. Collins if he is realistic.
He's a TE.
I know there has been discussion on this board about moving him to WR but I would like to see him stay where he is. You can still move him around like a WR when matchups are in your favor.

He had some decent chip blocks against the Skins. He can improve, he is putting in the effort. Just needs to perfect his technique and get a bit stronger

I agree with you. Play to his strengths and put him in the best possible situations to succeed. Seal blocking and blocking on screens seems like his best blocking plays, but inline trying to move someone is not. Just let him do what he does best.
But even though OV is overpaid, you create another hole by cutting him....he will not take a pay cut.....that's not happening......I would like to see what he can do with an injury free year.......maybe he finally stays healthy for once next year.....But we also need someone on the other side for pressure....
As far as free agents go, the only ones worth really signing are Rosas, Collins, Webb, and Brown.....I wouldn't overpay any of them, but Rosas has had a great year.....there are a few marginal players like Wynn, Riley, etc., who shouldn't cost too much to fill the roster....
So the decision has to be made, are we all in next year, or are we still building for the future? That will determine who we keep, and who we sign....
They're praying for a cap increase that's already been announced? Gettleman better get with the program.

Rebuilding a team will several off-seasons. I hate to see my team home on the couch during the playoffs. But it will take time to properly build a competitive, winning team. It will take a couple of good drafts, development of project players, and smart FA signings to avoid being in cap hell. The Giants over valued their talent this past off-season and thought they could make a playoff run. Now they're praying for a sizable increase in the cap to fill the massive holes on this team. Don't force the issue and make bad, impulse decisions. Don't over pay for a RT, C, S, or pass rusher to get the last out of Eli they can. Sometimes you have to wade a the river of crap to get to the other side. Be smart.

In contrast, in 2013 the cap increase was $2.4 million and in 2012 only $0.6 million.
I know that the football press likes to have cap problems to report during the long off-season, but I think that the cap has grown so much that I hope almost no team would have to lose a player because of it.
The Giants could always borrow against Eli's salary coming off it in a year or two by reworking a contract or two.
