Observing reality isn't wallowing in misery.

This team IS miserable.
They turned over 2/3 of the roster in a single offseason.
Britt in VA : 12/16/2018 4:02 pm : link
33 new players out of 53. They are undoing 10 years of awful drafting.

Takes time. I like what I've seen the past couple weeks despite the awful game today.

It really just confirms what we already know.

Maybe now instead of talking about social media posts and media hot takes, we can talk about the things that really matter. Despite definite improvement in the last 5-6 weeks, this is still not a talented enough football team. Not having OBJ hurt today, but even worse, the OL took a step backwards, the team committed far too many dumb penalties, the tackling overall was horrible, and Eli never got into a rhythm.

Aside from the need to find the Eli succession plan (and I think he is back for one more year) the biggest “needs” going forward have to be.

- A dominant front seven player on D
- A real FS
- A Right Tackle
- Another WR who can win on the outside
- More pass rushers
...

dep026 : 12/16/2018 4:05 pm : link
To begin with.

Throw in no OBJ and the weather... I wasn’t expecting much. Their goal was to have everyone not named Barkley beat them and we don’t have the talent to do so.

Calling it like I see it that he will be back this year doesn't mean I'm against his succession plan.

If this team finishes 5-11 thar 4-1 stretch is completely meaningless.
Meaningless in what regard?
Britt in VA : 12/16/2018 4:08 pm : link
It's all been meaningless as far as wins and losses go for some time now.

They're getting meaningful work in learning a new offense and learning to play together as units.

opinion may not be popular around here, but we all should hope that the front office and ownership looks at this roster fairly close to the way he does. This team is rotten. The roster is absolutely horrible. There's maybe 5-6 guys on the entire team that I would want to keep. Everyone else I couldn't care less if they were on the team next year. This team needs to be entirely gutted. Barkley, OBJ, Hernandez, BJ Hill, Carter, Engram. Those are the only players on this roster that I'd be upset if the Giants lost. That's saying a lot about just how bad the roster is.

Eli can not be brought back next year. They need to just cut ties and move on. He can not play unless everything is perfect. He's totally finished. If he's playing against a redskins team that couldn't get out of their own way last week and had a clean pocket all game, he can still throw it. But you could say the same about a lot of QB's in the NFL, if everything is perfect they can still throw it.

It's just time to be done with Eli and move on to a new era. This team has been dogshit for years now. Stop holding on and trying to squeeze one more run out of this team.

Love Eli. Always will. But he's just done, and the roster sucks. They started to gut it last year, but theres still a tremendous amount of dead weight on the team. Vernon, Ogletree, Jenkins, Collins can all hit the road. None of them are worth anywhere near what they are paid.

There's no sense in arguing anymore about taking Barkley over a QB last year. It's done, but they now need to move on from Eli. The QB of the future isnt on this roster currently.

The premium positions in the NFL to me are QB, WR, LT, DE, CB

The Giants have 1 premium player at a premium position. That has to change. Like now.

QB and DE have to be the addressed. Without those two positions being addressed Barkley can run for 3k yards in a season and it wont matter.

The Giants won't do it, but they should can Shurmur and the entire coaching staff.

I don't like Gettleman, but he won't get fired and probably shouldn't. But Shurmur just gives me no confidence whatsoever. At the very best a mediocre football coach. He's not a rookie head coach and shouldnt be making the clock management mistakes he has made all year.

Bringing back Shurmur would be wasting a year, imo

Britt in VA : 12/16/2018 4:29 pm : link
He will still be on the roster next year, and there is a possibility they extend him one year to work with his contract.

Hopefully they have a plan for succession there.

That said, replacing Eli will not fix some of the issues that plagued us today.

Do you think that is best for this franchise? I love Eli & everything he’s done, but at some point the band aid needs to be ripped off. I agree completely with what Mook said.
However you want to define it....

But again, we need to work on the lines.

You want to practice self-delusion, that's your business.

This team is a joke. Being a Pollyanna fan that thinks everything is great all the time doesn't change reality.

He gets ripped on for having unpopular opinions, but he's a great Giants fan. Just because he doesn't like the direction this franchise is headed doesnt mean he would rather be right than see the giants win.

Unfortunately, John Mara seems to be totally out of touch with reality like a lot of BBI is. This team is further away from competing than 90% of the teams in the NFL.

This team needs continuity. And Rome was not built in a day.

Teams that can run the ball, stop the run, and pressure the passer win. The Giants can’t consistently do that now without an infusion of talent at the LOS. Reese’s mistakes can’t be undone all at once.
