yesterday was a reminder that we need much more help on both lines. Pulley is a backup type as is Wheeler. And we lack pass rushing and need another run stuffing DT.
That we need to rebuild both lines to become a physical team again.
DG knows what needs to be done but I also hope he drafts some good LB’s who are fast, can cover and tackle.
If They are trying to become the Titans which I don't disagree Â
There’s something to be said about having an old school defensive guy for a head coach. I always liked him as a player and am very impressed with him as a young coach. Too bad we missed out on him.
Exactly what I was thinking the whole game yesterday. It almost looked like the Titans were built for that exact weather. I'm also not even that upset today, they were outplayed, and beaten by a better team. For me this was the easiest loss to accept all year. No bad calls to contemplate, just got our asses kicked. I just hope for a better showing against Indianapolis, because another ass kicking could be this coming this week, and I'm hoping Big Blue is at least competitive in this one.
with, then they need a different style QB for sure. A younger more elusive one.
I am not sure. If you build a physical team you protect the pocket QB with solid line play. You run at the pass rush and make the opposing front work for it. You also have play action. I am not sold on this you need a mobile QB to win. Mariota and the Titans dominated the joke that is big blue and he had 88 through the air.
RE: are you trying to say we don't have the good donuts? Â

.
They traded their run stuffing DT to the Lions.
It has showed up since he was traded too.
Tomlinson not exactly stepping up, if they want to
be like the Titans, build the defense.
Mariotta threw 12 passes I believe yesterday.
Although I am not a big of him as a QB, other than being
athletic.
In that weather? Isn't that the definition of insanity?
In the "old days" of Giants lore, if a road team came into Giants Stadium in those weather conditions and attempted to throw the ball 47 times, we would laugh at them because we all know what the result would be for them.
In my head, I'm thinking about Jay Schroeder throwing the ball 50 times in the NFC Title game against our top defense in crazy swirling winds and saying, "Keep on throwing!"
An 8-6 team with good lines and an outside shot at contending is precisely what we should be aspiring to.
Well, if you listened to the Giants post game show yesterday, you would be led to believe that it is exactly what they should be doing because overall wins doesn't really matter in a regular season and all you need to do is just "sneak in" and you can run the table.
I'm serious, this actually happened. Papa, Banks and Medow were hammering on this when a caller suggested the team wasn't building itself to be a true contender.
Is still the gospel. Win your division, win close games, dominate time of possession, by running the ball, protect the football and stop the run. If you dont, yes You can sneak into the playoffs, but if you don't have a physical identity, you are going to be one and done
do you think there is a mismatch between what the GM wants and what the Coach has as an offensive philosophy?
I ask because all reports suggest that it wasn't until after the bye week that they realized that they needed to focus their offense through Barkley (I thought that was the reason he was drafted #2, but oh well). That means to me they had no problem being pass reliant coming into the season until they realized they couldn't.
If Shurmur wants to put the ball up in the air and the Gettleman is trying to grind folks into submission, I feel there is a clash.
And although Hill and Tomlinson got the shit kicked out of them, it is clear they need help, and they will get better and learn from this. It was an embarrassing loss, but Eli stinks and he alone cost us the game, he plays a good game and we could have stole one. They better not have the balls to sell us on another year of him without his replacement here. For example, if they drafted Haskins and believed in him, but want him to sit the first year to learn watching Eli, then I am okay with him coming back, otherwise, go get Foles, he would be a huge upgrade and make us contenders the next few seasons with other upgrades along the lines of scrimmage. Pass rushers, defensive tackle, offensive linemen, plus a fucking real free safety would be nice.

If you watched that game yesterday and came to the conclusion that Eli was the biggest problem than I don't know what to say. You need your eyes and football IQ checked. I'm fine moving on from him at this point but he was far from our worst problem.
was the running game. Their defense stopped it, the Giants were in position and could not make tackles. They need to upgrade the LB’ers and safeties. They can’t handle physical teams yet. Same for the offensive side, all positions aside from LG need upgrades but C and RT are immediate needs.
In that weather you can’t expect to win without effective running, and not having OBJ to help keep the defense honest was the tipping point.
Right now, structurally, we're an "upside down team" - A core of very good skill players (headed by OBJ & Barkley), but except for Will Hernandez (who is just a rookie), the jury is still out in the trenches.
Gettleman stumbled with Omameh (and the early release of Damon "snacks" Harrison is a head-scratcher).
There's a lot to like about the Titans model, they thoroughly dismantled the after putting "40" on a decent Redskins defense. (They basically did the same thing to Dallas this year).
The good news - The players believe in and play hard Shurmur for Shurmur, that's an excellent start.
They are like the TC led Giants. And I totally agree. Play hard nosed football. But when things don't function right they collapse. But they can beat anyone.
DG knows what needs to be done but I also hope he drafts some good LB’s who are fast, can cover and tackle.

We need about 4 new OL and 1/2 a defense to be like this

Giants passed 44 times yesterday.

+1 - we should try to aim a bit higher.
Mariota is awful, he's the reason they are medicore.
Yup, i said it, and i fully believe it.

Henry though is running like a beast, and he's a Brandon Jacoubs type, that imposes his will on you.
I don't blame the players for not being able to take him down one on one every play. That guy is a truck.
I find myself wishing we had a back like that on our team to get the tough 2 to 3 yards.

Being at the Houston game this year, if that game was played 100 times, the Giants might have won maybe 20 times.
Texans had 2 TD's called back and were just a mess that day with penalties. To their credit, since that day, they are 10-1.
About what you're saying, Paulie.

Giants need quality big guys on both sides of the ball.
